Dak faithful, state your case for the need to play Dak in 2023

How did Jalen Hurts look before the Eagles stacked their team with all that talent? Dak is not Mahomes or elite, but you can win if THEY ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING WITH THE CAP SAVINGS
You can’t compare a guy who is in his first full year as a starter to Dak. Of course, his HC and OC took the time to design a system for him this season that took advantage of him and the team’s strengths. It must be nice to have a coaching staff that can do things like that.

If not Dak, who?

Cooper Rush? He's a backup, that's it. Pretty good backup, and that fills a need, but not a starter.
Draftee? Cowboys have won SBs with no. 1 drafted Aikman and likely (if not for the military service) a no. 1 Staubach. No way they can get the no. 1 draft pick this year, assuming the thread is only about the upcoming season.
Trade? For who? There's no young, top notch quarterback currently available.

It's a moot question, we're stuck with Dak for next year....

I am not a fanboy, but I have been impressed with his running ability.
But he lacks leadership.
I am not a hate boy, but right now, with the money on the cap there are no other choices or options.

do you have any other options? or you want to tie your legs to the Rush anchor and sink fast?

Think about how frustrating it must be for his team mates knowing they are good enough to win it all but the QB is the piece thats preventing. They won't come out and say that of course but they know just like we all do.

Dak is an slightly above average QB that has a really good game from time to time. Maybe he would play more consistently with a better OC and another solid WR.
I wouldn't even call him slightly above average. This is a quarterback centric league where QB's regularly throw 300-400 yards and multiple TD's a game. Everything is tilted in their favor, this isn't like when Troy Aikman was playing QB. The point I'm making, even with all the advantages and talent around him he still can't consistently produce average numbers.

The case is simple.

His cap hit is too large to move on from
him at this time.

Who said anything about him winning by himself? Dak played like crap and was a big reason why they lost.
When you responded to someone else, you made it sound like it was a one-man show

I think we have to remember.. SF had their 3rd string in there. And he looked more calm and composed than Dak. He took more sacks than Dak. He was under more pressure than Dak. He threw into more tight windows than Dak. His top two playmakers in McCaff and Deebo were taken away.. and yet he still found a way to protect the ball, keep the chains moving and stay calm.

I do not personally believe that Purdy is ever going to be an elite QB.. but that is ok.. as long as you understand what you can and can't do.. and then play around that.

The big problem is that Dak believes his own hype.. and he wants to make those big plays.. and yet he comes up empty time and time again. You just can't win a superbowl with 25% of your cap going to a guy that can't make those plays when they are needed. Just can't happen.

SF QB room.. its entire room costs less than 50% of Daks cap hit. 3 QB options that are better than Dak and less than half the cap hit. That is something that should scare our front office. And our fan base.
Excellent point - Prescott doesn't accept his limitations.

I don’t know what a “Dak faithful” is but the case is he’s a top 10 QB in the league and we don’t have anyone better.

It’s a common sense case.

No option but to keep Dak for 2023, unless he agrees to a trade. The interesting piece to keep an eye on is what they end up doing with his contract. If they don't push more money into future years they are set up to be able to move on after 2023 if they so choose. The downside of doing that is the Cowboys would be on the hook for a monster $52M against the cap this upcoming season.

If they push more money to future years then the likes of Parsons will be moving on as soon as he can - he will want to win a Superbowl and we all read his comments last night. He knows the limitations of Dak Prescott.

Dak is not Elite, but for some reason our coaching staff gives him free reign like he is Mahomes or Brady. When Dak has to go through multiple reads thats when he makes mistakes and forces balls. He needs to be reeled in. He needs to be a game manager that protects the ball. He needs quick timing passes with the occasional deep ball (similar to Purdy and Hurts). Similar to his rookie season which is still the best season Dak has ever played. Run the the ball 60-70% of the time and hold Daks hand… with a top 5 defense. That’s how we win.
I started a thread where I said something similiar. They don't think he is a game manager!

Well not only that, but another restructure almost forces the Cowboys hand to do another extension for Dak too. Otherwise you're on the hook for $50+MM in 2024 and probably at least 30+ even after he leaves town. Another Dak extension starts to impact what you can do with guys like Parsons, Lamb, Diggs, etc. Someone has to go. My guess is it's not Dak, but if that's the case you do risk having to move on from a Parsons type, although that could be an interesting modern day Herschel Walker type deal.

Dak isn't going anywhere at least for 2 more seasons. Best come to peace with that. That being said, they can prepare for life after Dak by fixing the issues on OLine, DLine and other areas. Basically set the team up for success for whoever is going to take over.

Because he’s a good story. I genuinely believe that’s why the Jones’ keep him. That way, if Dak ever does find a way to win it all, the Jones’ can “take credit” for doing it with their guy.
That time has passed,if dak couldn't get it done with THIS team,he never will.. choke job at it's finest.

The irony being on the old board I proposed trading Prescott after his rookie season as he was being massively overrated due to the once in a generation O line, a top running backs and all the other pieces on the offense - his stock was never going to get higher. We could have got a Herschel Walker type trade for him. If they do that with Parsons it would be sickening. To dispose of a genuine stud to try and prop up a limited QB like Prescott. It really has to end.
