I agree that Dak isn’t worth the contract and he is top 15ish…..and that’s with great weapons.

But what would you have done when the contract came up? There was no viable back up plan (that’s on ownership) and if we’d gone FA / trade—we’d have paid more. Only a few QBs worth more and I don’t remember any of those being options at the time.

Would you throw a season or two away over principle? I supposed we could have competed for him in FA….see if the number would have fallen, but I think someone would have paid him.
They would not have been throwing away 2-3 years by moving on from Dak. They would have been protecting the team’s future from having the roster limited because of a huge contract. Things would have been better if the contract matched the Dak’s level of play, but it’s not even close. Despite the few posters on this board that repeatedly say that the cap doesn’t matter and the team can manipulate the cap to sign whoever they want, we repeatedly see Dallas in a position where they can’t afford to even sign mid-level free agents. 2-3 years spent looking for a good QB would be much better than several years of massively overpaying a QB and a roster that is limited because of that contract.

That’s how you win football games. Just ask Mr. Brady. Methodical dink and dunk is a Winning culture. Gallup would say you are wrong again. He drops dimes on the Receiver
What works for Brady clearly doesn’t work for Dak. Gallup would say that he is open a large percentage of the time, but Dak can’t see him or there is a DB within five yards and Dak won’t throw into that tight of a window.

Don't get why people don't understand this or blame Dak for his contract dollars, I get the performance side of it but he is in Dallas for at least 5 more seasons if not longer. On the contract anyone who says they wouldn't of taken that kind of deal from their employer if offered is just not truthful. His cap hits are large the next 2 years so look for more mega dollars extension soon Jerry has to prove to everyone the QB he drafted is elite even if he holds back the team.
I remember when the leak came out about Dak wanting $40 million a year and Dak and his agent denied it. They denied leaking that info because it was perceived as being very greedy. Once they realized that Jerry and Stephen was not outraged by the $40 million, they started mentioning that number frequently. It didn’t matter if his contract was a roster killer as long as he got his.

Yet Dak got a big contract for...

Cooper
Gallup
Wilson
Schultze
Jarwin
Cobb

Not bad for someone who doesn't throw to guys...

You love being wrong.Brady will throw short to set up deeper play action routes and then throw accurately for long completion.Key being accurate, something Dak isn’t.

Backwards Zeke and Cooper got the big contract for Dak because he needs so much support and he still chokes. Gallup Wilson Schultze Jarwin Cobb, you call those big contracts those are Jag's contracts. You truly live in a alternate reality.

I live in a backwards reality? Zeke hasn't been very good since 2017 and HE got Dak his contract? lol

Coop was a legitimate weapon when they had none..

Other than that...spit on bud.

ok, so this thread went from Dak ruined this team because of salary cap implications to lets go back 6 years ago and look at the scouting report.

what does that have to do with today after 6 years. I can show you scouting reports for 100s of players that were bad, but then they turned to good players in NFL and vice versa.

and Jones knew that report. Jones saw the same thing happen on the field. jones had assessment, scouting report and first hand account from coaches. jones could have talked to other GMs and scouts in the league if he wanted to. yet Jones handed Dak a large contract. Jones put this team together that can't compete. why did Jones do that?

p.s.

who cares about this scouting report any more. old news.
I care because scouting report is dead on and still all those weaknesses apply today to the tee.I had to respond to him.

Reverse that. They all got the contract for Dak the bus driver. Dak having soooo much talent around him and still couldn’t do anything w/ all that talent except tally garbage time stats and beat talentless NFC least.

You still do not get it, They payed Zeke because it was the run that carried the team, bad move on Jerry's part but everyone knew the team went as Zeke ran. Coop got paid because Jerry saw Dak couldn't elevate receivers in 2017 and the start of 2018 then paid him big to retain him because everyone knew what would happen to Dak with out him. So yes that's real reality not some homers distorted view of Dak is the savior.

All very TRUE and will continue to plague this Tier 3 QB.
P.S.Now his also a gimp afraid to use his legs so get that Field goal kicker ready and able baby!!!
so true . It is amazing how the fans and media have glossed over Dak's issues. His mechanics and ability of reading defenses has not improved , and now as you say , he is more prone to checking down or hurrying up the throws, plus the hesitation with the gimpy leg. many defenses have seen his tendencies and have closed down his favorite plays . Many analysts noted how he swerves right very quickly before letting a designed play develop. I am sure someone in the front office and coaching staff know this , but too afraid to raise the issue. They know very well , jerry is fully invested in Dak . Anyone raising the Dak issue could be on the way out. Pretty sure Kellen knows the limitations of dak but cannot speak out either.

That's the question everyone asks. People frown on price gouging in the real world, yet accept it when it comes to these QBs.

My answer is, what difference does it make if we have very little chance at the ultimate goal? Would the Browns have paid Mayfield if they couldn't get Watson?

Not signing Dak would have put the Cowboys in bad shape for who knows how many years? Signing him makes Dallas decent, but not a true contender for how many years? I would have just moved on from him.
valid points. I still believe Jerry should have gone for Stafford in 2019 when dak's agent refused the 28 million offer , which was absolutely a fair offer for Dak. Other options were also available . but jerry caved to the pressure and gambled away another 6 years , on a decent average QB at best. A 42 mil QB should be much much better than what dak is. Dak is probably ranked 14-16 at this stage. That doesn't translate to elite or to 42 mil.

seriously. you had never seen this before? or you are just feeding him because you want to complain.

I don't get point of this. he sucks. now what? what's your thoughts on alternate plan? what can cowboys do? what should cowboys do? who you got? what can be done about Jones.
you are right, it is too late now . we are stuck with dak for 4-5 years at least. it is sad.

That’s begs the question……moved on to whom? Cooper Rush? They’d be a laughing stock and you tell the rest of the team you’re not trying to win. You’ll lose an entire roster that way.
