This thread is ridiculous. The fact of the matter is that Dak is an above average quarterback in the NFL, but will not be a guy that reaches that top 5 QB tier. Nit picking his performances will lead to no where. I believe he is 4th in the NFL behind Brady, Mahomes, and Brees in the last 4 years in wins (with a significantly worse supporting cast IMO). Saying that a quarterback needs help to win as a knock is stupid. Name a single guy in the NFL winning a ton of games with a trash team built around him. I'll wait.
All of that being said, I think the smart move is to let him walk. The way this team is currently constructed, I think that our best move is to tag and trade him for a King's ransom. He has value. Eagles effectively got a first and a third for Wentz and I think you would get a first and second or even two firsts for Dak considering the interest in him around the league. Signing or even tagging him for this year would put us in cap Hell for the next 2 or 3 seasons before the new TV deal increases the cap. We have a real chance to right this ship by making the smart moves right now. We have a war chest of draft picks, young building blocks on offense, and a defense that needs rebuilt from the ground up in FA and the draft. Trade Dak, take a QB this year, use the picks to dominate the draft the next year or two, cut dead weight the next 2 seasons (Zeke, Jaylon, etc) and assuming we hit on the QB we will be on the fast track to the top of the NFC.
This is not a knock on Dak. I love the player and the leader he has become for our team however it just seems like the arrangement is just not going to work out. If I were him I don't think I would even want to play for Dallas. Why would he want to continue to put up with Jerry's BS and poorly constructed teams? If he goes to SF, NE, DEN, or WFT I think he turns them into instant contenders since they all have good defenses and offensive casts built up and they are really a good QB away.
