Well no one is arguing that. If the team doesn’t want him then move on. But it’s not Dak or Zeke’s job to handle the cap. Their job is to get paid.

Oh please. I didn’t hear anything about how bad it was for Dak to be making 500k a year. Now he’s selfish? Really?

Is he? And to think I didn't use that word nor his name! I wonder if Jerry forces guys to sign that rookie contract! Yeah, that must be it! o_O

What does that have to do with anything? No one forced Dak to sign it but he surely hasn't complained. He did everything this organization asked of him. You guys are all anti-Jerry until the players want to get paid. Then all of a sudden its pro-Jerry.

Dak had the good sense to show up for training camp. The guy trying to scam the Cowboys is the one that didn't show up for training camp. Screw that guy. Let him rot on the vine. If you want a raise, you have to at least show up for work.

Breathe deeply. Like I indicated already, I didn't mention Dak and in fact, I was mainly referring to Zeke far more than Dak. Clearly, I was generalizing about both the ownership and the players being greedy. Zeke has 2 yrs left on his contract and is picking the wrong time to demand it by holding out.

Dak wants top 5 pay and isn't rated a top five QB, but that doesn't bother me nearly as much as the fact that he's unwilling to come down to that level as yet. Hence, the FO is waiting for him to prove he deserves it. I think Dak is slightly better than an average QB and he needs to prove being more than that to the FO, before they agree to granting it. I'll likely have no objection to whatever they decide, as long as he proves deserving of the hype he's received.

This thread is a sad and strange evolution of the Dak contract threads that have been going on all off-season.

I honestly don’t know why people are so worked up and so upset about Dak’s contract negotiations. I really can’t understand it.

The angst and anxiety about it just doesn’t mesh with the realities of the situation.

Even if you are one of the people that think Dak is currently an average QB.......

The truth is, if the cowboys do extend Dak. The deal is going to be structured in a way, where Dak can be cut after about 3 years should he fail to improve, or regresses or whatever.

Dak has already played 3 years in the league. He has at least proven that he is a good enough QB to get to the divisional round with a good team around him (not even a great team, because most fans would admit the teams in the last 3 seasons haven’t been great rosters. Good to very good maybe but not great).

So I mean what’s all the extreme anxiety and worry about? I mean worse case scenario if he gets resigned. The team is stuck with him for another 3 seasons and you know he is at least good enough to get the team into the playoffs. Meanwhile, the unknown of getting rid of him carries great risks, given the bust rate of QB’s drafted.

So even if you think Dak is just average. Where is the fire right now? Why is this being treated like a national emergency? I just don’t get it.

Dak wants what he's owed. If Carson Wentz got paid like a top 5 quarterback than Dak has every right to ask for just as much if not more. Its just what it is. You guys are getting too stuck in the "top 5" thing. The top 5 qb's with the exception of probably Mahomes have all already gotten their big pay days. Brees, Rivers, Roethisberger, Brady, Rodgers.........they don't have too many more big deals left in them. Those guys aren't on the same pay scale as guys 10 years younger than them. Jimmy G, Wentz and Cousins have done NOTHING in this league and got paid. So now that its time for Dak to get paid everyone wants the quarterback market to go back to normal. Naw.....that's not how it works. The qb market will continue to grow regardless of the caliber of quarterback.

And there's never a wrong time to demand what you're worth. Whether that's in life or the NFL.

Your estimation of Dak's worth and mine aren't on the same page by any stretch. Dak isn't nearly as good as any of the QBs you've mentioned, with the possible exception of Wentz, who was somewhat overpaid anyhow, imho.

It's ridiculous how you choose to circumvent the truth when you assert that just because the older QBs are older, they don't deserve to be valued according to their superior skills. The fact that they don't have many deals left has nothing to do with their actual worth. They earn what they get and possibly more.

Jimmy G., Wentz and Cousins have, indeed, done something in this league, whether you're willing to admit it or not. Everyone knows the QB market is growing -- that's no great revelation. All I want is for Dak to prove his worth sometime this year before the Cowboys decide to reward him too generously. If that happens, he'll surely have my blessing. If not, he won't. Live with it if you can. If not, so be it. We can always agree to disagree, no problem.

Don't be so fast to indict Prescott.

Our team leadership is fully capable of scamming themselves.

Did you not say Dak was above average? That' where I have him so my estimation of Dak's worth isn't far from yours. Where we probably differ is that you probably think he's hit his ceiling. I don't. I don't believe a 26 year old quarterback can't get better. Just my opinion but I don't believe it.

And what on earth has Jimmy G, Wentz and Cousins done that Dak hasn't? I have to hear this.

And I enver ONCE said older QB's don't deserve to be valued. You saw what Brady just got right? My point was those guys weren't up for deals. Russell Wilson was and got 40 million. What I think you and others fail to realize is that if guys were up for a new contract they would exceed 40 million. Brees would get 40 million. Rivers would get 40 million +. So no.....the 32-34 million per would not be top 5 money. It would be outside the top 5. And in 3 or 4 years 32 million will not even be top 10 money.

I think what’s fair for Dak is to set a reasonable salary and say his salary can’t fall below the 10th highest QB in the league for the duration of his contract as long as he remains the starting QB.

That would be a decent deal for the Cowboys and a pretty fair deal for Dak.

Why do you think any of those three have "done something" that Dak has not?

Ironically Wentz would be the only one you could make an argument for. Cousins has done nothing in the NFL. Dudes one playoff season he lost to the Matt Cassel led Cowboys. Jimmy has played ten freaking games.
