Dak Pocket problems

The upside to sticking with him (if that's what they do) will be seeing how he rebounds and letting that direct their focus in April. If he doesn't rebound from his recent struggles, then he may not be the guy. No one's going to cut him or perma bench him, but it's too early to rule out bringing in competition should the opportunity present itself.

He may be the guy going forward even if Romo has to come in this year
He clearly has the poise, intelligence, work ethic and measurables
He is s rookie and may just need more time
I'm just saying, pump the brakes and do whatever needs to be done to win this year even if it means putting Romo in

My dad and I had this conversation yesterday before the game talking about what we thought made QB's really great and while they all get blindsided sometimes, that pocket awareness was a trait we decided on being vital and the greats always seem to have. Then we watched Dak struggle with it during the game.

IMO the most important trait in a QBs is anticipation
Some of it is instinct but a LOT of it is also practice and film study
This is part of why I don't like Dez as part of this offense, because his route running and defense recognition are not the best so it becomes difficult to anticipate where he will be
This is why Beas had the most catches with Dak

I said it in the game chat, and I'll say it again.

If anyone thinks Dak is sitting back there, seeing wide open receivers and choosing to just chill in the pocket and take a sack rather than throw it, they haven't watched enough football.

The Giants had a great gameplan and the staff failed to adjust in a way that would have given a rookie QB a chance.

Everyone talking about Dak holding the ball too long, have you forgotten how long Romo holds it? There is a reason he needs so many theatrical roll outs. It's the design of this offense. I think they played most of the year with scaled back midrange passes and they've slowly worked there way back to the deep, slowly forming routes. They need to cut that **** out.

Regarding the OP, I agree. I'm thinking it may have to do with other teams studying film on Dak, seeing that he has a tendency to run back and to his left when he feels pressure, so they are cutting that option off. Stepping up in the pocket is available - Dak just needs to learn how to do it apparently.

If only hitting our receivers with the ball was as easy as hitting a stripper with champagne.

Actually, hitting a MLB pitcher is the hardest thing to master in all of sports, but that's off the subject. :)

Won't argue too much with that...but man there is something to be said about a man that has 300lb DLinemen and 245lb LBers trying to knock your block off while you have to decipher what is going on down the field.

Im not really suprised. He has alot of work to do. Hes a rookie and you people will have to be patient with the slumps. its ride or die with Dak. He was playing at a level never seen in a rookie QB. Of course he wasnt going to win every game. its hard to be even 11- 2. I know people are tasting that SB but i believe this isnt a one year thing for a young team that can get better. I wont get bent out of shape if they dont win it all but im putting this all in a calm perspective at just letting this play out.

Im really anxious to see how Dak responds because then we will see what this guy is made of. Its easy tp play when everyone loves you. Now lets see what he can do when there is doubt from the fanbase and media.

The only thing worse than that is having the 4 Horsemen give you a beatdown. WHoooooooooooooo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I sometimes get the impression that he is to tentative to fit the ball into tight windows. Granted I haven't seen the all 22 view, but it does appear that he is too worried about getting picked instead of firing the ball in there. NFL open is different that College open. Does anybody else think that he might be too conservation? As weird as that sounds, you don't want your QB to throw picks but you got to be willing to make some close throws.
And now you've pointed out the difference between a game-manager and a gunslinger...the former is great as long as the system doesn't encounter extreme turbulence...the latter is what you need when you need a win in January at the Meadowlands. Romo since 2013: 5-0 vs. Giants...at 29.8 ppg. Romo just keeps coming back...2007 vs. Buffalo is an extreme example. He has never been a quarterback that feared a mistake vs. fighting for a win.

It is also on Linehan for not making any adjustments. All night he kept calling long developing routes. Dak was really bad but Linehan assisted in that too. Offense needs to make adjustment this week and use a variety of routes and implement blitz beaters.

Precisely.

The Giants blitzed quite a bit. And there was just no adjustment whatsoever.

The run of good offensive play calling is over, minus that gem of a TD.

I don't understand why we abandoned the running game. That's been our bread and butter this year.
Me either.

I think the weather had a lot to with the game for us.

When the game came on I'm looking over the announcers shoulder at 2 guys scraping ice off the field.

That meant poor traction and difficult cutting and reduced speed.

Now I know it was the same for both teams..

and nobody would use it as an excuse..

but this left us at a distinct disadvantage.

And it showed.

Now next week is inside at home.

125,000 fans are going to show up Sunday.

I think we look very different.

You guys obviously missed the blanket coverage....going to your 3rd & 4th reads gets old quick! And time for defenders to get too you....

But, that's now of my business......keep saying Dak sucked

Their DBs matches us stride for stride. Apple had Williams, DRC contained Beasley and Jenkins blanketed Dez. Dak held on for a reason and the problem goes beyond the QB.

Spot on. You generally want the ball out in less than three seconds. I can't remember the last Dak did that regularly.
Doesn't help when all the routes ate down field. When is the last time we ran a quick slant and get the ball out? Giants when Dez fumbled

He wasn't too worried about throwing deep into double coverage where Dez literally had zero chance of making the catch  Gosh, that was such a terrible decision.

Oh, and the one where Dez had a clear step on the CB, but Dak ended up hitting the CB in the back with the ball. Disgusting
Like Romo has never done that before, without thinking i can call up at least three instances starting with Barbie. Dakota has a lot to learn that our savior learned while being crucified for it so don't act like Romo has been all world all the time. Jerry screwed up Romo's window and now that he is fragile everyone in hindsight thinks he is the second coming of Brady. He is a great QB that maybe past his prime and can't take hits, i for one don't want to see him hurt again but would love to see him get a ring from under center but get off the he makes no mistakes that Dam does cause he made PLENTY of them which is why they were able to pass the torch when Dakota started winning.
