IMO the most important trait in a QBs is anticipation
Some of it is instinct but a LOT of it is also practice and film study
This is part of why I don't like Dez as part of this offense, because his route running and defense recognition are not the best so it becomes difficult to anticipate where he will be
This is why Beas had the most catches with Dak

Yes, Dez is unpredictable.

He also drifts upfield on crossing routes which makes it very difficult on the QB and easy on the CB.

Like Romo has never done that before, without thinking i can call up at least three instances starting with Barbie. Dakota has a lot to learn that our savior learned while being crucified for it so don't act like Romo has been all world all the time. Jerry screwed up Romo's window and now that he is fragile everyone in hindsight thinks he is the second coming of Brady. He is a great QB that maybe past his prime and can't take hits, i for one don't want to see him hurt again but would love to see him get a ring from under center but get off the he makes no mistakes that Dam does cause he made PLENTY of them which is why they were able to pass the torch when Dakota started winning.

Sorry, but I can't find one single reference to Tony Romo in my post. And I sure can't find anything that implies Tony Romo does not make mistakes.

Good try though. Next.

BS. Linehan consistently has quick routes in the early progression. Its not like its set up so that he hits his back foot and is supposed to wait.

So maybe less 5 steps and more 3 steps then when things aren't going well

biggest issue I saw with Dak was that he constantly drifted sideways in the pocket instead of either 1. Letting the ball go quickly 2. Stepping up forward to buy more time. Or just bailing out and taking off running faster.

Drifting is a college QB thing - it doesn't work in the NFL as the Lineman are too fast, it sets QBs up to throw off their back foot, and it cuts off 2/3 of the field.

Was it blocking, Dak confused/indecisive?
I think part of it is pre-snap recognition. I also think ironically that early game success with the big play influences his approach the rest of the game, often to his detriment. Consider his worst games of the year in terms of decision making and hesitancy. I would argue that list includes the earlier Eagles game, the Vikings and this past Sunday. All three of those games have a common theme: relatively early in the contest Dak hits on a deep/splash pass play. Deep passes to Dez against eagles and Vikes and the scoring play to TWill against Giants. Again, small sample size but a pattern appears to be emerging from my observations. Early deep/splash play success seems to foster a reaction in Dak where he focuses his eyes down field looking for more and eschewing the quick reads and throws (or decisions to run) that should be his staples. Certainly the latter is when he's at his dynamic best.

As I've said in previous posts on this topic, this pattern bears monitoring.
