He gets credit for Dalton pulling out the Giants game too? Ok. Whatever. That’s your only response. Lol

AC, you’ve become just like Romo fanatics you bashed all of those years. Full circle. Karma is hell.
He's unhinged again, he gets like that, have a little compassion for him he's not all there anymore.

Dak, now it's crystal clear the Joneses are not 100% all in on you. They are outright telling you what they think and what they were trying to do to draft your replacement before this year started. Give them what they want. Make them eat their words and regret losing you. Go find a team that will truly appreciate you.

So, what happens if Dak refuses to sign the next franchise tag?
Is he required to sign the franchise tag?
If he doesn't sign, can he walk?

Then explain Dak's performance last season against NO, NE, and Philly (to win the division).......so much for Dak not being a choker theory.
You mean in the New Orleans game where Dak passed for 223 yards while Zeke only rushed for 35?

The New England game in the blizzard where Dak passed for 212 yards, compared to Tom Brady's 190 yards, while our receivers had 4 drops. Dak did overthrow a wide open Randle Cobb, but the whole team, especially special teams (getting a punt blocked inside our own 20), played horrible in such weather.

Against Philly (Week 16), Dak was playing with a fractured index finger and torn labrum in his throwing shoulder. Yet, Dak passed for 265 yards while Zeke only rushed for 47.

Yeah, sounds like you're labeling the wrong player as a choker.

Good question.

Dak can refuse to sign the tag, but the Cowboys don't have to release him. Jerry can play hardball and force Dak to sit out without pay until either Dak decides to sign the tag and show up to work or Jerry unexpectedly decides to release him.

Seriously, that's what you got out of SJ's radio interview???? The NFL is about survival of the fittest, if your QB goes down the next man up better have some talent or you're going to end up like the 2020 Dallas Cowboys! If Dak is butt hurt over this interview then I want him to move on, how do you think he got he got his start in this league?????? Romo went down and a 4th rd pick with talent stepped in and Romo never got his job back. Survival of the fittest is something the Cowboys are lacking this year. We'll never know where we would be right now if we had drafted Hurts, but the Eagles are happy they have him and their Mega Baby isn't happy about it....ha-haaaaa!

I don't understand. If he doesn't sign, technically he doesn't have a contract, so he has to be a free man.
He should be free to go else where to play.

You missed my point. This happened during the Draft, way before this season started. Jerry quickly has overpaid 7-8 other players on this team who have yet to live up to their top positional pay in the league contracts, yet the QB who has been putting up franchise record stats the past several years does not get paid???

Romo got highest positional pay TWICE, especially his first big contract not even a full year after barely winning the starting job, yet Jerry has refused to do the same for Dak who has done more?

Explain how that is fair?

Good question.

Can a player refuse to sign a franchise tag tender?

  • a player can simply refuse to sign the franchise or transition tag tender. However, that player is not able to play in the NFL unless the tender is signed.

  • It’s unlikely Dak would refuse the 37.7 million. But odds are if it comes to that he’ll be looking to become a Free Agent.

Who says it has to be fair.

But the only response is our ownership feels his demands are too high. At least up until now.

Even you have said he should have accepted the low 30’s offer. Which even critics like me would agree is a fair value. But I suspect his demands have increased now which initially were in the Russel Wilson range. Now they could be in the Watson range. Who knows.

At some point Dak may not be feeling the love and simply asking for too much. None of us can know at this point. But it will come out eventually.

Can a player reject a franchise or transition tag?
No. A player cannot become an unrestricted free agent by refusing a franchise or transition tag. A player doesn't have to sign his franchise or transition tender though.

One thing a player who has leverage can do is negotiate a clause into his contract that prohibits his team from designating him as a franchise or transition player when the deal ends. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Saints quarterback Drew Brees and Seahawks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney have such language in their contracts.

What happens when a franchise or transition player remains unsigned?
A lot of unsigned franchise and transition players skip voluntary and mandatory team offseason activities while they aren't under contract to try to pressure the team into meeting their financial demands. A designated player can't participate in offseason workouts anyway without signing a player contract or a participation agreement for the tendered amount protecting him in case of an injury. Participation agreements are rarely signed.

Franchise and transition players without an NFL player contract can't be fined for missing the mandatory June minicamp or training camp. Their attendance isn't required because of the absence of a signed contract. Unsigned players aren't withholding services they are contractually obligated to perform. Of course, a player extending his absence into the regular season won't get paid while he remains unsigned.

Only one player receiving a designation in the last 20 years has sat out a full season. Running back Le'Veon Bell didn't play in 2018 after being given a $14.544 million franchise tag. It was the second straight year Bell had been named a franchise player.

Can a franchise or transition tag be withdrawn?
Yes. The player immediately becomes an unrestricted free agent if the tender is withdrawn after the start of the league year. He becomes unrestricted at the same time as everyone else with an expiring contract (March 18 for 2020) when the tender is rescinded before the start of the upcoming league year.

Franchise tenders have been revoked on four occasions. The last revocation was Josh Norman's by the Panthers in 2016 shortly before the NFL Draft. He promptly signed a long-term deal with the Commanders making him the NFL's highest paid cornerback.

At this point, the Cowboys can just trade Dak for a 1st, send him to the AFC and draft a QB in the first 2 rounds they can groom.
and then the QB fails after 3 years, then we go drafting again, in the meantime, the young nucleus is aging and becoming FA and wants out of dallas....the merry go round continues...why mess with something good when you found it, unless you like the thrill of the chase

I believe a player who refuses to sign his tag has to wait a whole season before he can go sign with whomever else he likes, unless an agreement for a trade happens between the unsigned tagged player, the team that tagged him and another team willing to compensate the original team with agreed upon compensation (usually a draft pick or another player).

GB traded for Favre when they had a QB, then drafted Rodgers when they had a QB, then drafted Love when they have a QB.

A team's loyalty is to the team, not one player. Especially one playing hardball in negotiations.

Look, if I am in the singles bar and Hard Marge is proving to be too difficult, I am going to give Easy Lisa a chance.

Hell, Johnson took the QB with the #1 pick and did the same in the supplemental.

AC, this is a case of being more concerned about a player than the team and we've seen a lot of that around here. There is not one player on this team that I wouldn't take a chance on an upgrade. I love the laundry, not the ones wearing it.
you notice though, they drafted those players, when the current QB was older, close to his 4th contract with the team, and perhaps closer to retirement than his youth....yeah, if we did that, I wouldn't mind. in fact we did with Romo, he got older, more injuries, etc. we drafted a young QB to groom...which we did.

The only way after paying Dak is to stop paying Cooper and or Elliott. So we can invest on defense.

Otherwise we’ll continue with what we have had. A great offense that beats average to below average teams but struggles against better teams who we can’t stop relying on our offense to carry us.

It’s entertaining fantasy football but will come up short In January.
why wouldn't/couldn't be able to invest on defense? Lawrence is top 5 paid. Jaylon is top 5 paid. we paid Crawford, Poe, McCoy, Griffin, all mid level contracts.....the problem is none of them are paying off. its not a matter of not being able to sign. its a matter of signing all the wrong player, while letting the right players walk.....ala Byron Jones, but then again, 98% of this board wanted to get rid of Jones.....so they got their wish.

we just don't sign the right players or draft well defensively. not sure why
