Yes but when good isn't enough to get to the Super Bowl why pay good great money? That is the sickness of NFL front offices these days.
All you can do is put the best team you can out there and hope for the best.

Getting rid of a good QB, without an upgrade available, simply isn't a good strategy.

Aaron Rodgers was as great as they come, and he "wasn't good enough to get to the Super Bowl" in 14 of his 15 seasons as a starter.

If getting an elite QB was easy, every team would do it. Ask a Jets fan about how many times they've tried. They'd LOVE to have a QB who's on Dak's level.

If I'm Jerry I find a way to pay this year's salary to Dak which makes him waivable
after 6/1 next year correct?
Because Dak IS NOT going get magically better in thr future, in fact every team knows how to defeat Dak.
He will only do well against teams with a TB defense or worse.
It's early, but with the duo of MM and Dak we will not break .500 next year.

Draft a QB Jerry.

So dump every qb that isn’t a burrows until you find one? Lol
Or you can wallow in mediocrity and wonder why you can't ever make it deep into the playoffs. I mean we've been doing that for 27 years so what's a few more decades.

Dak needs to be extended and his no trade clause needs to be taken out, I agree with that.

If your going to spend some 40m-50m on a player, it needs to be YOUR asset that you can trade if you choose.

But again, we all know this will never happen.

And yes, upgrading to an ELITE level QB like mahomes or Burrows is wishful thinking. Despite what some of you may think "upgrading" isnt something you just go and do. Its almost near impossible to do.
Totally impossible if you don’t even try. I started to get into overthecap last night to look at our options again… Then I got depressed and closed it… Jerry’s not doing anything.

If bonehead would just use voided years and aggressively pursue top talent then we would be the favourite in 23…But unfortunately Howie Roseman will eat his lunch again, leaving him to talk about his longterm plan

I think boneheads biggest failing is that he runs the club like a fan and not an actual manager. It's why you end up overpaying average talent.

I agree with you, it just seems like we're stuck in a different type of purgatory where the FO won't try to upgrade at QB, nor will they put the weapons around their current QB that he needs to be successful. Hopefully the OC change helps Dak and hopefully they get another couple of good to great WR's to help him. He just can't put the team on his back like I once hoped he could.

This^^^^

Most Cowboy fans would love to have an Elite QB. Unfortunately there simply isn’t enough to go around 32 teams.

All we can do is make the best of a situation our ownership and front office provide. And that’s where the criticism should ultimately rest.
Ultimately,
No amount of coaching, scheme or personnel support can overcome poor decision making in the heat of the moment.
I have a hard time with all the posts that seem to disregard QB decision making as NOT being the foundation to this team's failure.

The decision by the F.O. to remain in this QB purgatory, aka Dak Prescott, based on the cap and no trade clause, seems as a give up/surrender move imo.

There needs to be change.

You mean you can’t just call 1-800-I need a qb?

The bigger problem many fans just can’t seem to put their arms around is our dysfunctional ownership priorities aren’t perfectly aligned with the fans .

Dak's contract is not a bad one now. Daniel Jones will get the same deal. There is a very good chance that none of the qbs in this draft will be as good as Dak.

They have a decent chance of making more progress this year. 12 and 13 win seasons are certainly not mediocre, especially if you do that 3 years in a row.

Howie Roseman will never win more Super Bowls than Jerry Jones. In fact he may never win just 1 more.

Yeah it’s the only thing that can explain the Zeke and Prescott contract extensions.

Jerry and Stephen are fully invested in Dak. He’s marketable as heck and just won man of the year. He’s gonna be here for another 6 years or so barring a massive nosedive or career threatening injury.
So how does that contribute to the success of the team??? It doesn't, and he should not be getting an extension....we are in DEEEEEP trouble if they make that monumental mistake!!!

Another ignorant fan who blames every loss only on the QB.
Interesting on how you can personally attack another member by calling them ignorant and nothing happens. Interesting indeed...I don't care much for the true haters but all you guys do just as much attacking, if not more, then the haters.

Why would he agree to removing part of the contract that both sides agreed to?
It’s not like a team can’t move on if they want to or trade a player with a no trade clause. You can let them play out, cut them or trade them to a club they agree to
