Very, VERY long odds.

The defense would have to make a huge leap from where they are right now.
But we have seen fairly JAG defense get in a zone regarding turnovers so that it was enough to let the better parts of the team (offense and special teams) carry them through.
Think Green Bay and New Orleans. But both of those offenses were truly dominant, while this one is just top 7 or so.

I just don't see it. Fun to dream though.

I honestly think it's will take more than one miracle for them to do it.
The odds are certainly stacked against them.

The one thing that can always keep them in the hunt with their defense is their ability to get turnovers.

That can be a great equalizer.
Unfortunately, the defense is so bad that even the turnovers aren't balancing out the yards and points given up.

Like you said- hopefully getting healthier will make a difference.

I truly believe that Kiffin's defense will work if the team is healthy AND they can apply pressure...everything with the defense and the scheme is predicated on that...if you don't need to bring in players to blitz and can still make the QB uncomfortable and rush decisions, then it makes everyone better in back 7....then, again with health, you have a guy like Lee in the middle that is terrific in the pass game and you bring up a guy like church to aid with the run and you can have a dynamic defense...right now, we don't have that because of virtually no pass rush although Hatcher has done nice things in the middle....I am pretty excited to see if Ware is truly healthy and can get to McCown this week...the RT of the bears leads the league in QB pressures allowed, so Ware and Selvie switching off there should get some decent results and when the bears throw the short crossing patterns to slow down the pass rush, then hopefully having all of the LB's back will make a difference

Forte is the key to beating the bears IMO...not just slowing him down running, but catching those little dump offs

I'm very curious to see how Ware plays tomorrow. If he can be the Ware of old in these last games- it would be a real boon.
I hope they focus long and hard on improving the DL this off-season. That can't be overstated.

Risen also doesn't worry too much about being dead wrong about things. He knows it's just a message board, and you can go ahead and stamp your name on an argument without any real world consequences.

It is not just Risen that has no fear of being wrong. Anybody that would come to this board and post that the Cowboys have a realistic chance of winning this year's Super Bowl has no fear of being wrong on any level. There is alotta hoping , but little true believing that the Cowboys can win it.

I don't care what anyone thinks about it. This team has no chance whatsoever at winning the Super Bowl this year. They're not even a playoff team. They just play in a historically horrific NFC East where somebody has to win it.

Being a fan doesn't require you to be delusional about where your team stands in the NFL pecking order.

2013. More than ever before is a year of matchups and game planning. This is a year of the very worst team capable of beating the very best. Preparation for each game and having team health is critical. Dallas can score. Dallas can hold opponents to few scores. This is a week to week league more than ever. I believe in this team and will not be surprised if the Cowboys win it all. Bring your bashing comments to me my friends. I expect some of each good and bad.

Only way this happens is if Romo steps up and becomes Drew Bree's-like.

..if he doesn't run the table right now I think it's going to be tough to win any SB.

I'll settle for a Division title and a game at AT&T Stadium that is winnable and then we can talk SB.

Before that..

Forget about it.

You sir are 100% WRONG..
Houston Texans losing to the Jaguars Thursday night , dropping them to 2-11 means they are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, Thus Giving the Houston Texans absolutely no chance. whereas the cowboys still in contention for a playoff spot , have A chance .. Now past play , stats etc as well as injuries , lack of talent and team execution might prevent anyone so "REALISTIC" (sarcasm) as yourself to even fathom a remote possibility as that happening .. But the FACT remains that they have a chance

Could be wrong but I think he knew the Texans were out of it.....

So you're the official "Crusher of Dreams"?

No, I prefer them to work harder on their schoolwork rather than daydreaming about becoming NBA and rap stars.

I'd rather we do a better job of building a team rather than daydreaming about winning the Super Bowl after two wins against horrible teams.

You know what daydreaming got me?

The greatest job in the world with very good money and the ability to control my destiny.
I have no boss and I love what I do. Many people cannot say that.

Fans daydreaming about Superbowls for their teams hurts no one. They aren't the ones building the team. Unless you do and I don't know about it.
I worked hard at school, but if my teachers tried to crush my daydreaming- I probably would have ended up with a decent job and not liking it.
Sure, I could have paid the bills, but I would not have been nearly as fulfilled as I am now.

I get making sure your kids are working hard and there has to be a balance of dreaming to be great and working so that can happen, but that's the thing- balance.
Not suppression.

I had teachers who nurtured what I could do and encouraged me to reach as high as I could- so I did. And I thank them for it.

You sound like you're trying to mold them into worker drones.

I hope I'm very wrong and I'm misunderstanding you.

Corso,

Kids from the South Bronx. Unless they work tremendously hard on their academics, where do you think they'll wind up? Where do you think these daydreams will take them?

Do you really want to encourage them to pursue their hoop dreams when they can't even make the school basketball team? Perhaps they should be studying harder for the SAT rather than writing 2nd grade level raps.

Day dreaming will lead these kids to jail, poverty, homelessness, section 8 housing, crime, drugs, and teen parenthood. They have absolutely NOTHING, and the only thing that will give them a chance to get out of the ghetto is an education ... not daydreams about winning the Lottery.

Nice soapbox about pursuing you own "daydreams" ... live a moment in their shoes and maybe you'll realize they should be doing their HW and studying hard instead of thinking they're going to be on the Knicks.

I predicted a Super Bowl berth before the season even started. I still think it's possible even after seeing the defense get shredded time and time again. To say it's not possible automatically means your statement is incorrect. It is possible. Injuries play a big part of games and who knows what could happen to other teams. Also, teams can get on a roll, gain momentum that carries over throughout the playoffs. We're getting some players back on defense and the Cowboys are showing a bit more commitment to the running game (which is key) so yea, we could catch lighteing in a bottle like the Giants did recently.

Then it makes even less sense .. To say the texans and cowboys have equal chances to win the Super Bowl when one team is eliminated from even the slightest of chance .. I understand he might have been more figurative than literal .. But none the less his statement is wrong .. A chance is a chance .. Even if less than a measurable in some people's beliefs .. Anything can happen .. It's a chance .. I'll take it ..

I do understand where you're coming from.
I have lived in their shoes. I grew up in poverty. Ugly poverty.

I simply believe the two aren't mutually exclusive if directed in a good way.
You can dream to be a Knickerbocker and still work hard for your degree.

I get what you're saying though- you're doing your best to get these kids to focus on what they can control.
I agree and think it's admirable work that you do.

I just think that greatness begins with a dream of being great.

No vitriol, or trying to be right- that's just my opinion.

I thank you for helping those kids. They need it.

Corso,

I didn't mean to sound angry about the previous post. I agree totally with you that we need to pursue our dreams ... as you seem to be an attestment to. I too, don't want them to become worker drones ... but creative and enduring individuals living their dreams. I'm trying to teach them to work their tails off so they can live those dreams ... unfortunately, so many believe they will be the next point guard for the Knicks or the next J-Lo that they don't see a reason to do school work and winding up dropping out where the streets eat them alive.

On a similar note, I will root for a positive playoff run. I hope we can use this year as a platform and springboard for a true Super Bowl run next year.

I completely respect what you do, my friend.
It's certainly more important than what I do.
I merely entertain, you shape lives. I'm happy just to have had a conversation with you.

My mother was born and raised in Long Island in a small Puerto Rican community. I got to visit there recently and went to the Bronx to visit some old family friends.

It's a different world over there. Scarier than Compton when I lived in Los Angeles.
My girlfriend- before she moved in with me used to live in a Cartel controlled neighborhood here in El Paso (actually the town of Anthony just outside of El Paso).
That's a place that could use some good teachers and role models to get those kids out of the Cartel cycle.

Those ****ers recruit at a very early age.

I've taken to having her two teenage nephews almost live with us just to get them away from that influence and try to instill something good in them.
It's hard.

Amen. I am sure you wish they were a better team , but they are not. To accept that fact doesn't make you any less of a fan. It makes you a honest fan.

You really think there are fans here who don't wish the Cowboys were a better team? You guys are arguing with the idea of 'any given Sunday' for no other purpose than to make other Cowboys fans less excited about playoff possibilities. Then you're somehow twisting that to convince yourself it's somehow more honest to insist that what 'might' happen is, instead, impossible.

Pretending to be certain about something that's obviously uncertain is not honesty. If what's highly probable--that the team does not, in fact, win a Superbowl--happens, you're not going to have been proven right. You'll just have been proven to have given up sooner than you had to.
