You really think there are fans here who don't wish the Cowboys were a better team? You guys are arguing with the idea of 'any given Sunday' for no other purpose than to make other Cowboys fans less excited about playoff possibilities. Then you're somehow twisting that to convince yourself it's somehow more honest to insist that what 'might' happen is, instead, impossible.

Pretending to be certain about something that's obviously uncertain is not honesty. If what's highly probable--that the team does not, in fact, win a Superbowl--happens, you're not going to have been proven right. You'll just have been proven to have given up sooner than you had to.

What a sensitive response.

Nobody's trying to ruin your excitement. If you don't have any conviction in your opinion that's your problem. The statement was made that the Cowboys can win the Super Bowl. I disagree with that. This is a Cowboys fan forum. I'll feel excitement in the team when I feel it's warranted. Not manufacture it every year to flex my fan muscles.

If they played this postseason tournament 100 times, the Cowboys would win it 0 times. They can not win the Super Bowl this year.

You said it much better than I would have. Well done.

My excitement? Risen, you overestimate the importance I place in yours and jndays' opinions if you think seeing your white flag in week 8 somehow put me off of my own expectations for the season. What you're doing now is just waving it some more. I hardly notice it except when it obstructs my view of an actual logical argument in a thread.

I'm just pointing out that what you're doing is capitulating early some more, and not enlightening the rest of us regarding what might happen. We all know about how good this team is.

And, say it all you like, you're obviously wrong to say the Cowboys cannot win a game that has not been played yet. If you're being honest, I'm sure you would have said the exact same thing about the Ravens at this point last season. I was. And that was wrong, too. The reality is, there's too much football yet to play, in both conferences, for anybody to be able to predict what's going to happen.

And, for the record, I think the chances of the Cowboys qualifying for the post season are good. Their chances for winning a Superbowl once they get there are very, very slim.

Giving up on something, even if you think something cannot get accomplished, is a losers mentality because you never know what can happen, unless you can read the future. I have doubts that the Cowboys can with the SB this year, but I will never say never with games to go. I don't have a losers mentality or a white flag.

Can we win it all? It's possible. Likely? No. Lets worry about just making the playoffs first. And then actually winning a playoff game. Our history suggests we won't. I may sound pessimistic, but if I had to make a prediction based on what I've seen thus far, I'd say we finish 9-7 and miss the playoffs. Maybe I'm just tempering my expectations based off what's happened the past 2 years. I'm not going to set myself up for a big letdown.

You would have a tough time convincing me we are even a top ten team in this league. I'd say just barely above average. My power ranking would put Dallas around number 12.

I want to see us be a legit contender more than anybody. But I'm not convinced.

I don't understand the mindset. Every one of us has seen what happens when your pass defense is tested by a good QB. To overcome that, Romo and the offense would have to play out of their heads for 4 games or so in a row. It's very unlikely, especially given what we've seen from the offense so far this season.

That said, other teams have done it, multiple times (Giants, Ravens) in recent memory. Stranger things have happened. Lining up to say they haven't or to remind the rest of us that they are very unlikely to happen for us this season accomplishes nothing. We all get it. Really, we do. Even the OP explicitly states "This is a year of the very worst team capable of beating the very best." Doesn't sound all that pie-in-the-sky to me. More like a reminder that there's a reason why they play the games.

I think that people that wave the white flag before the fat lady sings has never played competitive sports. You will never find a competitive athlete give up on any game, or anything else in life for that matter.

'll never give up fighting till the end
If I fall along the way I'll get up and try again
But never shall I accept the fact of defeat
I've set goals in life and those I must meet
But never will I let negativity hold me down
Those who think positive I keep them around
Never shall I dwell on things in the past
Bad times come but never do they last
I shall never give in to those who are weaker than I
If I give up now why not lay down and die
Never Give Up

Some people simply have nothing else going on in their heads.
Walking broken records saying the same thing over and over and why? Who are they trying convince?
What are they trying to do? Say they're smarter than others? That they have no hope in their hearts?
What is the accomplishment in that? Girding their hearts, protecting themselves from heartbreak?

We all know exactly what certain posters here think since they drum it into our collective brains every.. single... day...
I can predict some of these posters posts before they've seen read the OP and started typing their response.
And they still feel the need to drill it in a little further- disguised behind phrases like "I'm an honest fan", or "I'm a realist".

Bully for you- now why do you have to beat this into the ground every day, in multiple threads?
Why do you have to pee all over everyone's topics of discussion with sour one-liners?
Do they get off in some weird way when they do that?
Every day? Man- some come off as miserable people. I feel sorry for them.

I'm real. I argue for both sides all the time because both sides have merit on multiple topics. I don't go playing the same note over and over and over and over....
I don't think the Cowboys are favorites in anything, but I'm not going to say they're completely hopeless because sometimes: strange things happen.
The ball bounces funny, a player gets injured, a call goes your way. We don't live in a perfectly ordered universe where everything happens as it's expected.

Some here aren't capable of seeing that apparently.

I came into the season knowing that this is not a Super Bowl quality team. The realization is not something recent. The one and only unknown that this season answers is if any improvements have been made towards building a Super Bowl quality team. I am not waving a white flag at this point. I waved it a long time ago. Before the season started I would have gave you the same opinion that I have now and that is the Cowboys are simply not good enough. The needed improvements have not been made. Keep grasping at the runs that the Giants and Ravens made as a means to justify your hope, but in reality both of those teams had more talent and both was much better teams than the Cowboys.

If Risen Star could give you 100 likes I bet he would. Two peas in a pod.

If you came into THE SEASON thinking that the Cowboys have no chance, then just what the hell are you doing watching them? I don't get that kind of nonsense....well from a few of you I guess I do.

I had hope coming into the season. But I'm not dumb enough to think we're better than the seahawks and saints of the league.

It's called having a cowards mentality. There is not a competitor that will ever go into a fight thinking he cannot win.

Do you fit that description?

No. But I'm not fighting either. I'm a spectator. All I have is an opinion. Right now I'm focused on just getting to the playoffs.

you negative guys kill me...it is not likely the team wins a SB this season, but they will be a team in the running until they aren't in the running...

...I swear, some of you just wait until they get in to the dance and lose their last game so you can run in here and say "yeah, but I told you they would lose at some point"....get over yourselves...this thread wasn't a "we will win the superbowl" thread, it is more of a question that there is parity in the league and a good team can beat a better team in the right circumstances
