Dallas Cowboys hire Scott Linehan

Perhaps Jerry is waiting for a phone call from a team making a trade offer for him.

So who really thinks Linehan will be implementing his offense? It's still going to be Garrett's offense. You think we're all of a sudden going to be running screens when we've ran a total of about 4 the last 5 years? You think we're going to see slants and crossing routes? You think we're going to see any amount of creativity? In Garrett's make or break year? Please.

Linehan is more willing to be Garrett's YES man. That's all this is. Callahan, I'm sure, had words for Garrett about how his offense was lacking. Princeton boy didn't take to kindly to that and now, with his neck fully on the line, wanted to bring in someone who wouldn't argue or disagree with him.

All the howling out Monte Kiffin - lets actually wait and see if he's still not replaced in a week. Or in two weeks. Or after the Super Bowl. You know?

We did a ton of howling about Bill Callahan, and he's essentially been replaced. Patience. If Kiffin is still around come training camp, by all means feel free to freak out.

I think Monte should have been the 1st guy out the door. I'll try and be patient though

They left on very similar terms (worst defense in the league, but never a healthy defense).

I don't think Kiffin is going anywhere. And if that's true, moves like this are a bit ridiculous considering the bigger problem still looms.

I think because Jerry doesn't like to lose money on coaches. He was the same way with players before, as well, but had to learn to eat the dead money when Jason Garrett became the head coach rather than keep aging veterans around because we were paying them.

They might also honestly like the way Callahan has coached the offensive line, and are saying "we goofed on the coordinator part, but keep up the good work on the offensive line."

Either way, I like the move, because Bill Callahan was trash as the play-caller and head coach of the Raiders and was trash as a play-caller for us this past year. Sure, we scored a lot of points (pick sixes count for the offense, as do punt/kick return TDs) but I still think we left A LOT of points and yards on the field.

Garrett and Saban are close as well so I would imagine good things.

We might be waiting to grab someone off Seattle's staff. The Cowboys historically don't make moves hastily when it comes to coaching changes...and they don't let the cat out of the bag.

Yeah, but nobody predicted Rob was going anywhere. I think Rob's firing had a lot to do with other things, too. Not showing for meetings, being unprepared, getting ripped by the Eagles four times, etc.

I think Monte Kiffin, in his first year converting us to the 4-3, is going to get a pass for the past year because of injuries and for an adjustment period. If the defense, after giving him the personnel he asks for, is still bad, then we'll let him go, just like with Rob Ryan. Remember? We ignored the d-line and went out and got the CBs that Rob wanted to run his super pressure man press defense...and then he ran lazy zones and we got destroyed. Fired.

I'm just saying...this football game thingy isn't a "instant fix" scenario. All the teams who were flash in the pan teams are gone back to irrelevancy. We're building a foundation...it's painful, but we're actually building a foundation now. We didn't do that at all after Jimmy left all the way until Jason became the head coach. Jerry tried the 'plug in this coach and win' approach with Parcells and Wade.

This hire doesn't bother me at all. Bill Callahan calling plays did so theres that, stick to the OLine because he actually made Doug Free somewhat productive again.

We get Linehan another WR in this draft too take the place of Miles Austin & lets see how the cards fall this upcoming season.

This is the obvious implication if they're actually looking to make a change. It'd be another bold move in a string of bad moves re this defensive staff, but I think I'd welcome it if it were the right SEA guy.

The SEA thing is only in the context where we're making a hypothetical DC change, and it only makes sense because we've supposedly modeled our defense off of theirs (or they, theirs, off of Kiffin's) and they're one of two teams where the staff is still engaged to the point where, if we were making a change, there'd be a reasonable explanation for us not having done it already.

I don't buy that Callahan was garbage, or that Jerry's particularly learning anything.

I get that our schemes started from a similar place, but do you really think that 1), we want Seattle's linebacker coach or whoever to be our DC, and 2) even if we did, they'd let him go? It doesn't add up.

I think we are building a foundation. Ware is getting older. The "old guard" 3-4 players were shifting out...the defense is rebuilding, whether people want to admit it or not.

This is purely speculation, but if we had interest in bringing Ken Norton, Jr over as DC (and he is overdue), I do not think Pete Carroll would deny him that opportunity. They are very close (not speculation) and Pete would not stand in the way of Ken getting his first DC gig.

My concern was that Cleveland or someone would hire Seattle's DC and then they would promote Ken themselves.
