Dallas DT's

We don't have a true nose guard, we have quicker lighter players.. And that's also why we rotate everybody so much.. Terrell McClain is going to be the one to watch upfront and if he gets three sacks and a whole bunch of tackles it will be a huge success..

Pretty unlikely while Marinelli is here

I doubt he starts even if he does beat out Hayden. They like him as the back up to both positions and very easily (as he should) get more snaps than Hayden, barring injury. Bishop is the only one on the roster who can likely take Hayden's spot.

I was humming along having a pretty good day and evening until reading the last sentence in your post. If Bishop is the only one on the roster who can likely take Hayden's spot...that is a sad commentary about the state of the 1tech. Come up with an alternative plan...I mean your name is Manwiththeplan....right? C'mon Verbal, don't let us down.

Sapp look like a bowl of crap physically, but he might be the best athlete I have ever seen at his size. Does anybody ever remember the show where the would run the obstacle course deal? He had better times than some LB's and WR's and always won. The dude was a freak athlete and had feet like Emmitt.

In looking at the Dallas Cowboys .com web site, I was looking at the roster rundowns and noticed that now that Brent has retired - our heaviest DT is Bishop at 305 lbs. Everyone else is at 300 or under ! Then you look at all our OT and they are all 315 plus. So my question is, where is the beef ?
Also, they list Brinkley at 275 for a LBer ?
Bishop - 305
Hayden - 303
Coleman - 300
Crawford - 285
McClain - 300
Whaley - 272
We are looking a little light up front .....

Good point. I fear that a big offensive line will wear down our line and be able to rush the ball effectively in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

Thx. That's just crazy that he gained 50 lbs. over his playing days. What's even more crazy is he lost those 50 lbs. in one off season.

But he played in 2000 at 330lbs when he recorded his career high 16.5 sacks....in his prime, he never weighed close to 300lbs, that's was my point and why I believe Dallas needs a monster defensive tackle to take this defensive line to the next level....Sapp took on double teams to free up linebackers, he was a run stuffer, he penetrated the pocket getting the quarterback off his spot, he pushed the pocket hurrying the quarterbacks throws and getting his hand up to knock down passes...Dallas has nothing close to that right now other than Crawford once in a while...

Dallas needs a 315- 325 lb monster DT to solidify this defensive line....

Red Bryant is sitting out there for the taking. I'd consider a 1-year deal if he's healthy.

6-4/323 Age 31 If we are the contenders I think we are, I'd sign him and throw him in the mix.

Seattle didn't even play him at the 1. He was a run down LE.

Whaley is actually closer to 300 than he is to 270 these days. But I share your concern. Marinelli likes his 1 techs to be able to play 3 tech, and vice versa. But for Cowboys DL to become elite, a true monster in the middle is required IMO. Would love for Jerry to burn his 2016 first on a 330 pound Tasmanian Devil like Danny Shelton, but its not going to happen.

Yup the Cowboys roster at minicamp had him listed at 295.

McClain is the guy you need to root for to win the 1 tech spot. I think that happens if he stays healthy this year. Bishop is a possibility also but we still don't know what we have there yet.

I like Bishop more

Damn, I was just thinking about that the other day. I saw it when he was just a rookie. They had to push weighted sleds so far, run through the tires, swing across monkey bars, climb walls etc. Not only did Sapp win the whole thing but he won it going away. There were literally running backs in the competition and Sapp was more nimble than they were.

Maybe the best athlete that I ever saw for a DT.

He definitely doesn't fit the mold of a heavy run stopping DT, that's for sure. He weighed well under 300 when he came into the league, and even if he did weigh up around 320, he was always the athletic 3-tech DT. If Marinelli had Sapp now, he certainly wouldn't want him to gain weight and try to get fat. Marinelli just doesn't like fat guys. Sapp getting a little bit of a pot belly didn't do a damn thing to help his game. When he did get heavy, he just looked fat.

If he got 10 sacks at 320, he would have probably gotten 15 at 305.
