***Dallas trades Fasano and Akin to Miami for 4th round pick (#100)

Fasano will be STARTING for them next season. They got a STARTER for a 4th round pick.

They likely got two starters.

You wonder if Garrett wants a quick, athletic TE in the Novacek mold instead of the lumbering Fasano type.

Curtis (and Hannah) already are that athletic type, and I bet we grab another one somewhere.

Only because they suck.

that makes sense. I think we have a very good to outstaning offensive coaching staff so if we get two new backs, a fullback and a tight end all young and coachable. that would be a very good thing.

Question for those of you upset with this.

Would you trade Fasano and Ayodele for Pacman and 26 places in the Draft?

That's essentially what we did. Yeah, Fasano was a 2nd round pick. So what? He was never going to unseat Witten and our Offense is not that 2 TE set Parcells dreamed up.

I like this trade. Ayodele was going to be released.

If Akin was really going to be released, then this is a good trade. Not a great one... but good.

I also like Curtis moreso then Fasano, but that second round pick on him... really hurt.

The Akin part, I have mixed feelings. I still am not sold on Zach Thomas until we see him and Akin would have been a capable backup or sub when Zach gets tired or if we are trying to save him for end of games.

We will see...

I am wondering if they will get another TE on the second day or stick with Hannah and Curtis as the back ups.

We also have to consider Cricket's back up which makes me wonder if they think maybe they are targeting Hillis or Schmitt to play back up to both positions in an H back role.

Bingo!

Quite possibly.

For all the credit Jerry gets for his negotiation skills, it sure seems like we gave them a lot for what they gave us.

It's not about what those players are worth to us, as Tennesse proved with Pacman, it's about what the players are worth to THEM.

They are worth a lot more to the Dolphins than they are to us, and they still didn't pay much for them.

I don't kow if moving Fasano was a good idea. I thought he had something

I felt that until I saw him drop that pass vs the Giants last year... along w/many other catchable balls that he dropped.

Jerry is working on a bigger picture though. Adele and Fasano were addition by subtraction. Get that 4th rounder and dump some dead weight.
You are one smarty pants aren't you?

Glad someone sees the big picture.

They did. And we could very well pick someone with the 4th that is not as good as either of them.

I understand Akin was expendable and Fasano in a log jam under the circumstances, but that doesn't mean this even approaches a good deal.

Well, I'm not crazy about trading Fasano but it is interesting. You know, Cottam is figured to go in about the 4th. Maybe we feel like we know something. He's a Tennessee guy and he has the best physical attributes of any TE in this draft. I don't know.

Ayodele, he'll fit much better there then here. All he does is eat blocks and that's what Parcells likes from that position. I wonder if we are thinking about taking an ILB? There was some talk that if Mayo was there, we would take him. I don't know but I wonder if there was anything to that?

Charlene Williams(sp?) was on ESPN the other day saying her sources said expect the Cowboys to draft a QB and a TE. I was like, WHY? Now i know why. She also mentioned Fred Davis.

For those against this trade.......wonder how many offers for higher piks Jerry turned down for these 2 journeyman players

Sure Fasano will start......Phins were 1-15......hope the heck he can start

Face it.....once a player is drafted.......his contract actually drops his value, especially if he is not a top performer

We got raped up the *** in this one.

Most back-ups just get released when they aren't wanted anymore. Getting the 100th overall pick is pretty good for 2 players of little value.

Agree with those saying that we'll probably run less 2-TE in favor of a fullback... Or maybe even another WR.

Maybe we're adding Roy Williams, and Wade felt that Crayton (or Hurd) was a better player than Fasano. Or that a FB we could draft would be better, that kind of thing.

If we traded a TE to draft another one, I'm going to kill somebody.

Why the hell trade something you know to draft something you don't know?

This pisses me off...

I went ballistic when we picked Fasano anyway and now we trade him and a starter for a single fourth after spending a second on him...

I hate that bastid. This better not be the end of this... we got gyped if it is...

Yeah, it stinks, but at least Jerry is willing to cut his losses and move on.

There was a day when Jerry's pride got in the way of Jerry's judgement. At least now he's making corrections....

Well put.

And did we shop anywhere else? Akin was a much better player in a 4-3 with the Jags. Fasano was high on a lot of boards, not just Bill's.

Was this really the best we could do?
