Well...Because they don't want to worry about him becoming a free agent and negotiating with other teams.
Good luck to Jones getting Cooper to sign any contract he does not want at this time.

All hail Kellen Moore!!!
Would not shock me one bit if he got Russell money. It’s why I kept stressing either sign him or move on. But everyone stressed his value couldn’t get any higher. He produced under subpar weapons and piss poor coaching. They sold us this offseason they have better coaching and personnel.......so the only place for Dak to go was up and him and his team probably knew that as well.
^^^EXACTLYBecause they don't want to worry about him becoming a free agent and negotiating with other teams.
Couple side notes;
One tweeter joked yesterday he could have sworn he was watching Boise State offense Sunday. The only thing missing was the blue turf.....lol
Guess the one player who will benefit most if this Moore explosion continues.......Dak. His stats will go through the roof and he'll have wins credited to his position. Which is exactly I disagreed with fans/posters saying let's wait until of this season to sign him. Funny thing, even Jerry not sure if Dak wanna now.
LOL!I couldn't disagree more,,, this sounds more like an argument for those predisposed towards class-warfare or personal dislike than someone actually looking at the negotiation taking place. Dak is a team leader and has leverage in these negotiations, he is every bit a part of this equation as the front office.
Understood. However, my comment you initially replied to cut to the chase of the entire matter. The question I was answering was why the team would want to make this happen even though Cooper has said he is willing to wait. I wasn't suggesting they can force him to sign something he doesn't want to.
Kellen Moore is quite the popular guy around the college football world.
Out of hundreds of comments made in that sector, all those kids kept talking about was kellens boise state offense and how nice it looks on the NFL level.
In alot of their opinions, they say that offense still gives them nightmares from when their teams were beat by that Boise state squad.
I didnt watch alot of those boise teams but I'm guessing they caused quite the stir.
Good to see it on Dallas.

It’s not about what he “deserves”. If it was based on what guys deserved Mahomes would be the highest paid qb in the league and Dak wouldn’t be the worst paid. But it’s not. I’m not arguing how much he should get. I’m telling you what I believe will happen. If the shoe was on the other foot Jerry would never sign a deal lower than what he’s worth. That’s bad business. When you understand that Jerry loves Dak and is not interested in drafting a new qb......the ball is in Dak’s court. If Mahomes signed tommorow Dak would get somewhere in between Goff and Mahomes. He doesn't deserve Wilson money. One game shouldn't shift that. It would be foolish to pay him based off an opening weekend game.
Give him a Goff life contract and just move on.
True, we all want these players to be "team friendly" but that being said all of them are 1 injury away from retirement. As for Zeke, go watch the break down of just how team friendly this contract actually is, both for Dallas and Zeke. I was a lot more comfortable after hearing how it all shakes out with him. Not to mention, we have him back on the field and working for us!and thats an excellent point. If someone likes the player and wants them to be the franchise QB thats fine, to each their own, but some of Dak"s cheerleaders want him to break the bank and make double the salary of Brady as though it vindicates their support of him........as you said, an exorbitant, ludicrous salary only hurts the TEAM.
I wanted to re-sign Zeke but if it was 10 million dollars less i would have been much happier. Some just don't get Economics 101
That maybe true, but it's not for me. I for one do NOT expect us to go 16-0. I get it, we will have bad days and bad games. Hell look at our schedule upcoming, take out the next 2 and we start actually playing teams with winning records, and for me, that says ANY GIVEN SUNDAY. As long as we can make a run into the playoffs, and hopefully that NFCC game I will take that as a win for this team, considering the last 23 years of nothing. Super bowl, you bet, isn't THAT what they all play for, but I won't put my all bag on that line, it's a long season and a lot can happen good and bad. I'll take our losses as well as our wins. IF we continue to play like we did on Sunday, and KM IS that genus to change the play book week to week to keep us from being predictable, then I see this as a winning season. That alone will keep me smiling.Yeppers. Unfortunately, pro sports is the quintessential "what have you done for me lately" league. One bad game and both Dak and Moore will be roasted

ROFL... funny thing is, 2 out of those 3 names you mentioned, Dak has beat hands down. But yet I guess in your opinion, he is still just a "bus Driver". Better get him paid, the price is only going up, for some that's not a big deal, for others, I envision bodies falling from 30 story buildings over Dak being "over paid" as you put it.But it about what he deserves. He is in the class of Goff and Wentz. Goff has made a SB, Dak has not. He's not a SB winning QB like Wilson.
If Dak thinks he's deserves Wilson money, guess what? He's in the wrong. If Dallas thinks they can pay him like $27MM AAV, then they are in the wrong.

Based on what I've read, I think it's pretty clear Jerry wants to sign him ASAP. I don't believe Jerry is low balling him. He knows the market is set with the Wentz/Goff contracts.Regardless of his performance on Sunday, his pay should be in the range of Wentz and Goff. It, frankly, shouldn't be hard to get a deal done now with those two signed. The only hold up is either the Cowboys are low balling him still or he thinks he should get Russell Wilson or more type money.
IMHO, simply because Dak has out shined, out played the great Carson Wentz time and again, he should be at the Goff number but at 135, and beat both on guaranteed $, Wentz got 66, give Dak 68 and work out the end practical's to total better then those 2. Just me, but I believe he has earned it. But look, it's not our money, and were not the GM, JJ will do what him and jr come up with...So what do you think he should be paid right now?
Frankly, I think saying he should be paid in the Wentz/Goff range is more than fair.
Wentz got a 4 year extension at $128MM total with $66.5M guaranteed at signing and $107MM in practical guarantees.
Goff got a 4 year extension at $134MM total with $57MM guaranteed at signing and $110MM in practical guarantees.
Those contracts are fair and where Dak should fall in pay.
EDIT: I didn't realize those two contracts were actually really close to what Wilson got. Then absolutely, what Wentz and Goff got should be the ballpark for Dak.
