I tailed off at the end, but I tried. IR or Theo probably have this word for word.
103.3:
RG: Is the rumor that Jerry wanted you there 24/7 true?
DR: No. I was fully committed to be there as much as they wanted me to. It wasn't anything to do with anything back in Georgia.
DR: I was interviewing for the SF job when Jerry called me and asked me about assisting them. Wade was the one who contacted me several weeks ago. When I was here those few days, I was with the offensive staff going over the running game.
BE: Was it more a coaching or a front office role?
DR: Which would you hire me for given my background? Right, coaching. But I'd have helped with anything they wanted, game plans or taking off film or whatever.
MM: What was the one sticking point?
DR: I can't say, but in all the years I've done this I've never seen this in a contract. But Jerry thought he needed it there.
MM: Did Jerry want you to move any of those suites at the new stadium? (joking)
DR: (Fairly serious tone) No, but I'd have done anything he wanted me to, even if he wanted me involved in some promotional things.
MM: TO?
DR: When I made those comments a few weeks ago I made them as an outsider, that some players were a distraction. I found that there were some mixed feelings on him in the organization when I was there.
RG: Could you have had TO on your teams?
DR: Hard to say, I don't know him, but some coaches on my staffs in the past swear by him, say he's such a hard worker. My chiropractor knows him and loves him. He's very emotional and needs to learn to be part of a team.
GAC: Romo?
DR: Very talented. I was looking very forward to working with him.
GAC: Did you see any players at VR?
DR: No, but I know some were there. Believe me, I was in an office as we were in meetings all the time, except for getting a bite to eat every once in a while.
RG: Did this have anything to do with a general manager tag? We know Jerry is very touchy about keeping that role.
DR: Not at all. I know Jerry wants to be the GM and is the GM. It wasn't that at all.
GAC: Would you come back if Jerry changed his mind on this one thing in a couple days?
DR: It wouldn't even be 48 hours. I'd be back in five minutes.
MM: Can you talk any about what your title was going to be?
DR: I thought if I were going to have coaching in my title, I needed certain powers and I wouldn't have those. Otherwise you're just a advisor with no teeth, and I didn't think that was fair or right.
DR: Only reason I was there was Wade. I am more disappointed this didn't work out for Wade than for me. I really thought I could make a difference and help people see what a great coach Wade is.
GAC: What did you think about Garrett?
DR: Very impressed. Very good communicator. I really liked the way all the offensive coaches communicated. I was disappointed because we were about to work on the passing game the next day, and I was excited about that.
GAC: Discuss the toxic chemical spill in that locker room.
DR: I think Jerry wouldn't have wanted me here if he didn't know there were some problems here. He really wants to win, I could tell that in just a few hours of talking to him.
GAC: Give us 10 minutes to talk to Jerry and we'll get you in here.
DR: Well, good luck. I don't think it's going to happen. This feels like hitting a home run, touching home plate, and being called out because you didn't touch 3rd.
