My 2 cents Jerry wanted a very benign title along the lines of "assistant HC - team manager" or something that is not directly involved in the offense, and DR did not want his title to include the word Coach if he did not have a "real" coaching position. This would seem trivial to a lot of people, but I think DR has to much football pride to take a title without meaning.

Hmmm...good post!

Yep, if Jerry was really in love with the idea of Reeves being here and looking over his shoulder he would be here. This was Wade's idea. Jerry tried to accommodate it, but it was going to be on Jerry's terms.

Yeah, just like his 'commitment to winning'.

As long as it's on his terms...

esp. when it's just one issue, such as length of time

Good God, DC, you wake up!

Of all the things to bash Wade on, this isn't it.

Wade has to run the defense. Why can't the highest-paid assistant in the NFL run his own offense? Oh yes, because it's Wade's fault!

When you have a flat tire in the morning, do you blame Wade for that too?

Props for not shoehorning in a TO bash, though.

From his tone, it was more like begging. I couldn't believe how much hurt he was and how much he wants to do this. :(

Do you people hear yourselves?

Wade has to run the defense?

Wade has to run the ENTIRE TEAM because he's the head coach.

And I never singled out Wade here. I said Garrett needed help.

All of you have already given up on Wade as nothing more than a defensive coordinator with a head coach title.

Gadzooks.

No wonder the team is divided. There is not one force here running the team. The players know it and now the fans want to accept it and say 'well, we have a D cor and O cor'.

That doesn't work. We have just witnessed it not working.

Wait... I thought Head Coaches are usually specialized in one area... You know, like the great Shanahan can't caoch defense worth a dime.. Name me one coach that is great in calling offensive and defensive plays..

Uh, how is it Wade's fault for Jason Garrett being here? Wasn't Garrett hired before Wade... Garrett can't sniff Wade's jock when it comes to coaching...

It's Wade fault because he's the head coach.

Who says 'blame it all on me, it's my responsibility.'?

Wade.

Why does he say this over and over and over?

Because he understands the concept of being a 'head coach'.

You don't.

Although I think very little of Wade as a HC, suggesting they bring in Reeves is probably all he can do.

At the end of the day, this isn't on Wade, Garrett, Romo, or TO. It's all about Jerral W. Jones.

At least we get to the root cause of the team's myriad of problems - Jerry Jones.

A guy who's skin has apparently been streched so thin that the owner of an NFL team is calling into a local sports show to defend himself.

I honestly can't think of another NFL owner doing that.
What NFL owner do we hear from period? Unless they're firing or hiring someone?

He's an embarrassment to the franchise and all who call themselves a fan.

DR: I thought if I were going to have coaching in my title, I needed certain powers and I wouldn't have those. Otherwise you're just a advisor with no teeth, and I didn't think that was fair or right.

This is the elephant in the living room right here. The deal fell apart because Jones wouldn't give up a little control. The control freak nightmare continues.

Oh, and Jones is a blatant liar too on the authority to cut players as was already pointed out by Jimmy Johnson's contract.

We are all facing an Al Davis situation here.

roadrunner, ok what did you mean by this statement, ?

did jimmy johnsons contract state that he had full control ? i noticed in an interview that jerry jones just gave, that first jerry jones says no one has had control to fire a player, coach, trade etc, in 23 years ive been here but then he says in next sentence, the 20 years, to me, jerry is saying that maybe in the first 3 years jimmy johnson had full control, then jerry jones took that back in the 4th year of jimmy johnson tenure in dallas

Jimmy left the team over this and the "who deserves the credit" issue. As was previously stated a few pages back, Jimmy even proved it by showing that portion of his contract.

Exactly.

I honestly don't know what Jerry said, and he was on what seemed like forever. He was trying to defend himself, yet still be so vague as to not give away what it was, that I have no idea what he was getting at.

Whatever it was, it didn't make him look any better. At one point JFE brought up what Reeves said about a lot being on his plate, and Jerry almost took it personally, pointing out how Gil Brandt told him when he took over that he was in over his head and he proved everyone wrong.

Typical Jerry... The more you tell him he can't do something, the more he tries to prove you wrong. As in, you say I need help? That I can't do this myself? I'll show you!

I dunno, but I haven't been so mad at Jerry and so discouraged in a long time. Dan wants this job so much, you can hear it in his voice. Then Jerry gives what sounds like lip service to how great he is and how much he could help us. Well if that's true, why not do it?

Because it's all about Jerry's ego, that's what it sounded like. Jerry almost brushed it off like oh well, it didn't work out, that happens all the time.

In between propping himself, of course.

:bang2:

Dear god. Help us.

A. I cant believe he called into galloways show.

B. I cant believe he cares what they say.

C. I can never understand because he forms full sentences that go like this...."where we live today, Sports"

D. I bet it is getting alot of attention in his office and all around the ranch how disgusted fans and some players are with everything that is happening.

The man needs help to get things accomplished. Why wont he just accept help? What is so wrong with accomplishing something as a team.

and finally, I thought Jerry wasnt talking? Apparently he only talks when he needs to defends himself? That is pretty goofy.

Isn't the Head Coach supposed to oversee every aspect of the football team?

Of course, when the OC is given as much money as the Head Coach I guess its hard to have any input on the offense. This is the kind of theatre you only get when Jed Clampett is the Owner/GM.

Jerry always creates the biggest freaking messes that it's hard to even get your brain around it. It is just unreal the type of dysfunctional situation that exists in Dallas.

But that's what happens when you have an egotistical idiot running the show and hiring pseudo-HC's who are really just glorified coordinators and then hiring an OC before the HC is onboard and basically giving him as much power if not more than the named "HC" has.

Jerry really knows how to tear down a good thing. It didn't take him long to dismantle the 90's dynasty and now with BP getting us back on the map and the Cowboys being one of the more talented teams in the league it's all being wasted due to Jerry's meddling and incompetence.

Wait, did Dan reeves want final say on cutting or retaining a player? And if that is the case, what about Wade or anybody within that organization having that power? Or was it because Dan wanted a real title?

And if he wanted a real title, than why would Jerry refuse it, unless of course that title was stepping on somebody's toes..

it looks to me like Wade was the major player behind this one, yet Jerry wanted to be as difficult as possible, but still trying to make it look like he wanted it too

Jerry wanted to make it look good for PR purposes, but not really give Dan any kind of meaningful authority.

Typical Jerry B.S. Get pressure off of him and appease the fans by making it look like he was actually doing something all the while knowing he wasn't changing one bit, it was just for show.
