NY will pay Jones what he wants. They designed the offense around him and he produced, taking a team with pretty bad receivers to the playoffs. They need a QB who can run the ball, or they need to improve several other spots if they simply sign a vet pocket passer.

Im sure Daboll wants him back.
That offense revolved around the abilities of Barkley. I hope they give him a big contract as that would be a huge mistake.

They would be better off signing Geno Smith.

apparently the Iggles have $46 million in dead cap this year, not sure if true or not. If so, that is a lot

My inclination is i would personally cut bait with the guy....he ain't worth the money and the team needs more than just a QB...not close to being top 2 in the NFCE... don't anchor yourself with that bloated contract on a Prescott-like QB. But being the Giants, i hope they do pay him so they can be hampered in their rebuilding. Same with Hurts and the philthy situation. Two very average QBs looking for blockbuster deals.

Likely, yes. But given their draft picks, they could also just draft another one if they wanted.
They aren't drafting one this year. They only have 6 draft picks and they need to use them for players being that they have 20 free agents.

In fairness, he had no weapons other than SB & still got them to the playoffs. So, I gotta give him some credit.
Dak had no weapons and actually got us a wildcard away game victory against the G.O.A.T. while reaching the division round, yet a majority here chastise Dak while feeling sympathetic towards Daniel Jones.

If the Giants sign him for circa $45 million then they are foregoing any chance of reaching a SB like the Cowboys after signing Prescott.

I guess they could let him go and sign Carson Wentz or Baker Mayfield. Hell, sign them both and let them do that face slapping thing to see who starts.

Jones is a decent QB. Not elite, but better than many here are giving him credit for. He struggled early in his career after being drafted high by a mediocre team. I blame the team and coaching more than the player, but it does take some players longer than others to develop. He is playing well now.

He will get paid. The Giants are not going backwards.
I completely agree with your first paragraph. I disagree with your second paragraph. He's the classic profile of quarterback that a team should not sign - like Dak Prescott, unless you do not have aspirations of playing in a Superbowl.

I think you're right. My second statement is a prediction though. I think the Giants will pay him. Whether they should is debatable. They will be afraid to leap into the unknown, just as JJ was when he re-signed Dak.

The 5th year option the gnats turned down would have been just under $22.4 million.

And that’s exactly how we got to this same spot with Prescott,

What are they supposed to do? It’s either pay him well beyond what he is worth or start over.
Might as well start over. Over paying an average qb wont get you to the superbowl. It's insane to pay Ferrari price for a VW. If you want a VW go get another one for a good price.

There is options available to them that won’t be a big drop off.

if I were the giants I’d release him. They declined the 5th year option for a reason and suddenly he is this amazing qb? I don’t buy it and I think they can have similar success with a qb in the draft

I think teams are starting to realize that ‘today’s market’ is totally out of whack and teams just need to start setting limits and saying no.
I don’t know whether teams are doing that or not, but they should be.

Not at all.

He’s not getting $45 million. Not from them, not from anyone else.

They can take him for two years and pay far less than $45 million a year.

That buys them time to find their next guy.
Jones might actually get paid that amount, but from what we have seen so far that would be a mistake, which is why I hope the Giants do just that.

Take em for everything they are worth Daniel. Hold out half the season if need be.
