Alvin Dupree (Edge Rusher) Kentucky

Positives:
Excellent size. Relentless, never stops. Moves all over the place. Stands up, puts his hand on ground, left side, ride side, used in coverage. Has an outstanding first step. Excellent make up speed, does great job setting edge. Even when he takes bad angles, his speed allows him to catch up to play. Really nice bend and dip to his hips. Definitely a fast-twitch player.
Negatives: Needs to develop more pass rush moves, tends to get by with his speed rush only. Difficulty shedding blocks in run game, rarely see him make a stop against the run. Overruns the plays a lot and gets overaggressive, especially when rushing QB.
Comparison and Where He Fits on Our Team: Really like the player! With his athletic ability and size, his upside is through the roof. I can see him in the Von Miller role for us meaning start at SAM linebacker, and rushing in the nickel.

So he is basically a heavier version of Lawrence. You cannot have a guy who cannot defend the run on the strong side. And i wouldnt want to replace Lawrence after one year.

Come on man thats not even fair. Watch the games. Hatcher completely rebuilt his body these last few years. Wasn't same guy coming out of college. Ask scouts, even Broaddus. He says it all the time, Crawford isn't the explosive athlete Hatcher is.

Actually Broadus or Mickey this week mentioned that Gardner rebuilt his body since on IR like Crawford did last year.

Yeah true! That is exciting. I loved Gardner out of Stanford. He's got a lot of upside if he can stay on field

Lorenzo Mauldin is an interesting player, like to hear your thoughts.

I first noticed Mauldin at the Senior Bowl. I had to look him up because they were not talking about him. He really looks the part. He is a good pass rusher with some developed skill in that area. He's probably not quite as fast as some the guys project to the 1st round, but fast enough. There is something awkward about him at times. He misses some tackles and seems to lose intensity on occasion, especially when the play is away from him.

When I first looked him up he was rated as a 4th rounder and thought he would be a steal there, but since I've seen him move up some of the rankings.

It might have believed you until you mentioned Broaddus. I usually take what he says and believe the opposite is probably most likely the truth.

I wonder if Broaddus is still going around talking about how Marinelli is definitely going to Tampa after the season which is what he did all season long.

Maybe Hatcher is slight more explosive but I don't see a significant difference between the two. Crawford is stronger and better against the run despite being smaller.

I agree with your last sentence. Its not a knock on Crawford. I believe his upside is completely higher.

Some things I enjoy about Broaddus others I don't. The thing that irritates me about him is he bashed and bashed Brandon Carr all year even before he was really struggling. Then Carr started playing decent last month of season, and Broaddus keeps ripping all the people that bashed Carr. He's like everyone hates carr and wants him gone. What he doesn't realize is, IT IS BECAUSE OF HIM! He led that parade.

With that being said, he does sometimes have good insider info. Thats the main reason I enjoy some of his stuff.

I just can't take anything he says seriously anymore. He has been wrong more often than he has been right. He might have some knowledge, but I don't think he puts much effort into it. He puts out a Scout Take article but compare that to what Bob Sturm publishes. It's obvious that Sturm puts 100x the effort into his work and that's just his side Gig.

The most reliable inside type info comes from Mike Fisher. He comes on 105.3 The Fan throughout the day and gives Cowboys updates. The things that he reports almost always turn out to be correct.

The two things that irritate me about Broaddus:
1. Fans and other media continually repeat what he says as if it is fact. Many false narratives are created that trace back to something he said.

2. He probably has the ability to do better. He has the background and exposure to football operations and the draft that most media don't have; however, it's easier to just say whatever comes to mind than to really work at it.

I would be interested to hear your opinion of Zach Wagenmann from Montana.

Trey Flowers (Edge Rusher) Arkansas

Positives:
Very stout at the point of attack. Extremely powerful saw him throw lineman to the ground. Plays with excellent vision, awareness and pursuit allowing him to track the ball carrier really well. Really good in run game, makes a lot of stops. Excellent tackler.

Negatives:
Not a pass rusher at all. Big red flag that they always have him stunting, and moving around in coverage shows me they don't want him straight rushing. Does not have ideal height or length to play defensive end. Is not a muscular 265 pounds, looks soft and un-athletic.

Comparison and Where He Fits on Our Team:
Would be a left end in this scheme. Not the dynamic pass rusher I want. Certainly has a place in NFL, really good football player. But to me, not what this team needs. I can see a very physical team drafting him, Baltimore, Pittsburgh. That type of player. He's one of strongest DE's I have ever seen, a beast! Multiple times I saw him push 2 lineman at same time back into backfield to make stop in run game.

Dupree can do whatever is asked. The guy stacks and sheds really well. He's a special athlete. If he is there at 27, you RUN to the podium

I'll see if I can dig up some game footage of him:
Zach Wagenmann
6-3, 247
Montana

I only found a very limited number of snaps where I could review Wagenmann. He definitely has some talent. He has a nice burst and some ability to bend the edge. He would be a good late round project.

While watching Montana vs Montana State I noticed a player named Brad Daly that looked terrific. Apparently he was eligible for the 2014 draft but is listed as retired. I guess he had several injuries during college. I wonder what happened to him.
01/06/14 - Montana State defensive end Brad Daly was named the top defensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision at the FCS championship game in Frisco, Texas on Saturday. It was the second of two major defensive player-of-the-year honors for the senior from Helena, who also was a unanimous All-American. Daly received the Buck Buchanan award, given by The Sports Network to the top defensive player in the FCS. He was also named first-team All-American by The Associated Press, The Sports Network, Walter Camp and the American Football Coaches Association. Daly led the FCS with 14 sacks and 20.5 tackles for loss this season and was named the Big Sky Conference co-defensive player of the year. He also tallied 68 tackles, two forced fumbles, two blocked kicks and an interception. - AP Sports

The 6-1, 240 lb defensive end has been invited to play in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl all-star game, slated for January 18 in Los Angeles. - Montana State football
01/03/14 - 2013 FCS ATHLETIC DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION (FCS ADA) DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Brad Daly...Became the second straight Montana State defensive end to win the Buck Buchanan Award, which honors the outstanding defensive player in the FCS … Named the Big Sky Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year … Led the FCS with 14 sacks, all solo, and 20.5 tackles for loss, 20 solo, during the regular season ... Nate Orchard (Edge Rusher) Utah

Positives:
Really good pass rusher that makes a lot of plays! Doesn't have 'elite' get off or quickness like Ray and Fowler, but not too far off. Really good hand use. They move inside in the nickel, and his quickness hard to stop. Excellent bend and flexibility to get around the edge.

Negatives:
Needs to get a lot stronger! Difficulty shedding blockers when initially engaged. Plays unaware in the run game. Few of his sacks this year were unblocked. Misses a lot of tackles, difficulty bringing guys to ground.

Comparison and Where He Fits on Our Team:
Really like the player! Could see as good value for us at our pick, or a trade down option if we could get in 2nd round. He needs serious work with strength coach. Could put on 5-10 lbs of muscle. But I think he would be an excellent RE in our defense. Would love to see him and Lawrence compete for starting gig in training camp, with the loser getting significant snaps as well.

I assume the Dupree comment was not intended for me, but I'll address it anyway.

Some people think that a way to get one of the elite but undersized pass rushers onto the team would be to use him like Denver used Von Miller. VM plays SLB on base downs and moves to DE in obvious passing situations. He also blitzes from his SLB position in the base and at times they have the DE on the opposite side hold up his rush or drop into a shallow zone which gives them a 3-4 type look.

The Giants also moved Mathias Kiwanuka back and forth between SLB and DE over the years. He had 4.5 sacks in 10 games his 2nd year in the league while playing SLB.

Think of it as if you had a pass rushing specialist that comes in on obvious passing situations but instead of being on the bench on base downs, is on the field as the SLB.

Seattle does it to some extent with Bruce Irvin, but he does not line up as a DE nearly as often as Von Miller because Irvin plays WLB and stays on the field in passing situations as a Nickel LB. Irvin did have 6.5 sacks this season.and Von Miller had 14.

The Cowboys did try doing this to some extent with Kyle WIlber but he is obviously not an elite pass rusher.

I do think there would be some Pros and Cons to doing this. It would get an extra pass rusher on the field in the base and it would allow you to draft a guy that has elite quickness for pass rushing without having to have the size to hold up against the run as a DE. On the downside, if use a 1st round pick to get this player it's most likely because of his pass rushing ability while his ability as an off the line LB might not be 1st round worthy.

Having said the above, at 6-4, 267 there is no reason no reason that Dupree can't play all downs as a DE.
IMO the only true Leo in this draft is Beasley

Owamagbe Odighizuwa (Edge Rusher) UCLA

Positives: Is built extremely well looks almost identical to Demarcus Ware. Very strong at the point of attack, rarely see him pushed back. Very good in run game. Explosive enough. Nonstop motor. Extremely strong lower body. Excellent size for DE. Rarely gets dead in his tracks. Alters the game in so many well. Opens up opportunities for other guys.

Negatives: Serious injury history. Lack of pass rush moves and tends to do same thing over and over again. Tends to over pursue a lot of plays. Needs to wrap up better tackling.

Comparison and Where He Fits on Our Team:
Wow I like this player a lot more then I was expecting. His injury concerns scare me to death, but if he somehow falls to the second round I would draft in a second. With his size and strength, he can play right or left DE. His first step isn't incredible, but I think he is more then enough explosive. Just a really really solid football player. With that being said, I probably wouldn't take him with 1st round pick. Little too rich for my blood.
