No way to spin this. Unless the Cowboys are sold, I will never see another serious SB caliber team in my life. I've known this for a while, but this year cements it. The level of FO ineptitude is really staggering.

It does look like this is a make or break year for Prescott. However, as opposed to really evaluating the talent and team, They set up a contract with no trade clause and a huge number they never fathomed on being stuck against.

Dak doesnt have the leverage he thinks if the team is seriously resetting. Real GMs would respond to "I have all the leverage" with "We will hold a full competition at QB this year". This is the time you say, you can seek a trade or ride the bench so we can see what Lance has. You arent winning this year anyway

Carson Palmer, Carson Wentz, Stafford, Russ Wilson all garnered 1st rd picks. Dak is at least as good as some of those and, like Washington and Minn with Cousins, this may be the rare occasion where the compensation is ZERO - just unfathomable,

Knowing this is a tear down, you do it like Denver, Trade Lamb, Bland and Maybe Parsons and truly go for the future. But no, this is about to be 3-4 years of 4-6 win teams

couldn't agree more...this FO will continue to paint themselves in a corner and blame the agents like the phones they have dont call out....

I think this year, with Jerry claiming he is all in only to do nothing, really resets everyone's thinking. We are the only team in the league that just misses making a playoff run and responds by doing absolutely nothing in free agency.

It is clear the 2024 team will not be as talented as the 2023 team. With the Giants, Eagles and Commanders all signing additional talent for their rosters, we could fall to the basement of the NFC East. How embarrassing would that be for Jerry? Not at all I am afraid. He will just let McCarthy take the blame. But make no mistake, the 2024 won loss record is determined in March and April.

Lamb's Momma gonna be pissed. I'd like for her to Twitterize Jerry!

They aren't doing "nothing". They are rebooting the team. Letting 14-15 starters leave, not committing to a HC or coaching staff, letting Dak play out his contract it seems... They are basically setting themselves up so they can go in whatever direction they want after 2024. It's not nothing, you can argue if it is DUMB or not but it is not "nothing". Seems to me the braintrust is done with the current cast of characters. It's a possibility after that Green Bay game.

I'm not quite that pessimistic but I get where you're coming from. This front office has horribly mismanaged the situation the last few years despite putting together a decent roster for three straight years. With that said though there should be actual hope that they see this through and could have a true reset for 2025. Not sure it needs to be a total tear down, but they should position themselves to be actual players in free agency next season. You get to free up some cap flexibility, two draft classes and another run next year. Tough part is going to be figuring out the QB situation, but thats not the impossible task it was a decade ago. My fear is they half*** free agency then we see the extensions start. Either do it now and truly go all in or look to the future. Worst thing they can do is be half in/half out, that's what will set a team back 5 years.

Every other thread title is focused on sounding doomish.

They read like immature middle schoolers created them.

Why?

I bet if I start liking the 49ers or Chiefs somehow, someway...everything will turn negative on their boards.

Why?

Tear it down and never look back as let's face it the way they set it up with the Cap and Prescott's contract we were going to have to bite the bullet at some point.
Now one is giving a no 1 pick for Dak snap out of it. He is only considered a top 10 QB by Homer Cowboy fans.
Stats can be misleading as most are garbage time or against dog teams.
They are rebuilding, absorbing Dak's cap hit this season, and then saying Ciao to the Dak years.
What were they gonna do next season as not many dogs on the schedule maybe make the wildcard and go one and done?
They're not trading Bland or Parsons, Lamb, or Diggs as they consider them the building blocks for the future.
Now they need to find a Franchise QB................ Godspeed to them and Godspeed to us!

I know alot of people are reading into this lack of FA play (its really not out of character for this FO) that Dak is not getting a deal..I think that you guys are setting yourselfs up for a letdown though...I would be beyond shocked if they do not extend CD and Dak and bargain shop in FA just like the last 28 years...Now letting Dak play out his contract and then walk while we get nothing for him in a QB starved league..yeah that would be dumb for this FO...but its not likley. They will draft a RB and LB while getting a day 3 FA of both and then they will extend Dak and CD..its comming brace yourself...

with the Cowboys FO don't bother listening to them. It's all about their actions or inactions.

It's the same song and dance year after year.
Ignore free agency, sign some guys they end up not using or cutting, taking away cap space, rinse and repeat.
Not talking to Dak's agent, but sometime in July caving in. Not re-signing Lamb, probably to the point Jefferson agent beats them and resets the market.

I expect nothing at this stage of the offseason. Just here to lighten the mood.

Yup, and hopefully it blows up in his face like nothing else. We need him to realise soon that he doesn't know what he's doing.

If youre doing this you call Dak and his agent in and tell them that he won’t be playing here. So either find a trade partner or get ready to sit the whole season

They will never do this because there is no such plan or any plan at all. The Joneses are flying by the seat of their pants hoping Dak will sign for 40 million and he wont

Nothing happening now is new. This is on repeat. Somehow someway they will do something and many here will jump back on the ride.

Jerry and Stephen are as antiquated as it gets. They expect deals to come to their doorstep. They will extend their own, and they will say they actually made key free agency signings in signing their own.

Jerry just happens to be the worst owner and gm in the sport. The owner prioritizes clicks and mentions, and the GM waits for deals to come to him. A couple of their star players follow his blueprint.

Dak’s got another extension coming soon enough and likely another tattoo.

Rusty..its been 28 years, if he doesnt know by now, well, he will never know.

Yeah, I get it but Dak is getting paid either way. I personally think they are just going to let him play it out like they are doing with the coaches. Everyone on the same playing ground. If it works out then they have the option to possibly get everyone back OR if the most likely scenario happens and it fails..they can start basically fresh and build around Lamb/Parsons.

Setting yourself up to rebuild with a mid first round pick, vs multiple picks in a trade is, tautologically, dumb as excrement. You also change coaches this year (like Dnver/Payton) and start executing the vision now for who you keep and who you dont. Bringing in a new crop of coaches with no QB, No top pick, etc.

It is SOMETHING....the worst possible execution of a solution
