Darren McFadden’s Injury Woes Continue to Plague Him

Darren McFadden
misses practice due to strained hamstring” or “Darren McFadden to be out 2 to 4 weeks with knee sprain” are words Dallas Cowboys fans should get used to hearing as this is par for the course for the oft-injured running back from Oakland. Clearly the latter injury is not something that has happened yet. Still, here we are only a few weeks into the OTAs and McFadden is already having to sit out due to a hamstring issue.

It is early in the offseason training program and there is certainly no need to push any of the team’s stars at this point, but when you are trying to revitalize your career with one of the best offenses in the league, you need to make yourself available and take advantage of every opportunity that’s awarded to you while you can. Last year was the first time in his career that he was available for all 16 games and the numbers he put up were far from impressive.

Now both McFadden and the Cowboys will point out the fact that he played behind an awful offensive line and had a rookie quarterback throwing to average at best receivers, and they would both be right in their claims. But this is the NFL and you are expected to produce even when you are presented with less-than-ideal situations. Tom Brady still produced two years ago without a single weapon on offense. Even Tony Romo put up Pro-Bowl like numbers behind one of the worst offensive lines in the league in his first year as a starter.

When given the opportunity to play behind a somewhat decent line in 2010, McFadden did put up over 1,100 yards on the ground and averaged over five yards a carry. He also caught 47 passes for 500 yards that same year, but his season was cut short due to injury. He came back out the following season and was starting to put up similar numbers when yet another injury slowed him down.

This year he has the chance to play behind possibly the best offensive line in the league, along with Pro Bowlers Tony Romo, WR Dez Bryant and TE Jason Witten. So if he is able to stay healthy and fend off the up-and-coming Joseph Randle, he could once again put up big numbers and help this team get to the Super Bowl. But as the early returns are showing everyone in Dallas, it looks as though injuries may once again keep that from actually happening.

As soon as I seen the link rantsports.com I stopped reading. This is the National Enquirer of sports reporting. Look at the garbage they put on their Facebook site. Stuff like aliens kidnap Tom Brady's unknown daughter. Or, Russell Wilson is having an affair with Pete Carrols wife. It doesn't deserve to be a topic on this site!!! If you're taking the time to read their rants, or discuss it, you are feeding their ugly machine.

What I don't understand is the hatred for Murray.

The last two years he posted 2966 yards from scrimmage.

You'd have to go back and count every yard he posted until half way through 2010 for McFadden to accomplish that.

Murray's performance is not the issue. The FO had a predetermined amount of money they were willing to pay Murray to stay. Philly was willing to give him a ton more and so we let him go. It's just that simple. So let that part of history sink in and get over it. We are moving on to a new season with a new guy that currently has a hammy strain. Stop being a prisoner of the moment. DMC is the FO's guy to prove he can fill a void until he proves he can't. Let the process take it's course and it will all work out. Either he can do it and all is well or he can't and we get a new "new guy".

It appears that not too many people "like" what you have to say.

Going to start throwing your like total at people again? According you it's a credibility meter. :laugh:Go add a few more user names so you can keep up with Risen Star. LOL I could care less about my like total but we know that's not the case with you. You make sure you don't miss a moment here submitting at least 20 posts a day just looking to pad your "like" total.

I think they would have added a veteran back even if Randle wasn't dealing with off-the-field issues. I believe the Cowboys wanted someone who at least has been there, done that as far as carrying the load goes, ignoring the fact that the last time McFadden did that well was four years ago.

There may have been better options available at that time and for a similar price, but this was the veteran option they chose for better or worse.

Of course they would have they lost their starter. They needed a veteran who would come reasonably priced and McFadden fit the bill.

lol at so many of the fans who are covering their eyes to the fact that McFadden is, was, and always will be injured. lol

However, I am not so certain the FO didn't think they could get AP and therefore allowed Murray to walk.

Teams are built around play makers. Lots of people trying ti suggest he us JAG. I disagree completely.

It's OTA's. It's work. It's getting familiar with your new team. It's learning a new playbook. It's working with a new line. It's competing for a starting job. It's stepping up.

It's a missed opportunity.

If these OTA's were as meaningless as some people claim, why have them at all?

They're only minimized when they show poorly on a player. If the reviews were positive, only then would they matter to some people.

He didn't miss any of the walkthroughs and only missed some of the team period stuff. He strained a hamstring working out with a new S&C program. It's not good by any means but let's not make a mountain here.

You made a similar comment about McFadden saying he's made tens of millions making it sound like money wasn't important to him. If Johnson is so well off after making tens of millions why does he need a lot of guaranteed money? You always come off like you know exactly what players are thinking and you do it with posters on this board. You don't know what he needs or doesn't need unless you have a quote from him saying what he needs.

lol Sounds familiar....got a mirror?

It's simply a difference of opinion. What might not be a big deal to you is a bigger deal for me, that's all. I've been skeptical of his signing since day one and reading about how he's come in not with a bang but a whimper while suffering once again with an injury that has already forced him to miss a number of games is disappointing and concerning to me.

I frankly have no faith in McFadden staying healthy all year. Right now he's more of a liability. Its time to let him go and find another runningback.

We should have taken care of this issue during free agency and the draft. Randle is not the answer and so is Dumbar. For a team hoping to make it the championship rounds I can't believe that they are willing to waste a season on the scrub runningback committee that we have.

You are doing what you claim that I do. You have no way to know if he has been offered a non-guaranteed contract and turned it down. He has made tens of millions and you try to make it seem as if he is desperate.

Again, you get my vote as least informed poster around here.

You gonna get on his ignore list if you don't behave! lol

Hey, McFadden was a cheap look see. I think it's only a 250K signing bonus, small cap hit. JJ probably felt some Arkansas memories could be relived. I'm sure if he is injury plagued in July/August, he will be history. We'll be checking the cut list in late August. I really wanted us to go after Roy Helu, but whatever.

I don't get it either, the guy played his *** off for us.
