Wasn't sure what kind of "bottle" u meant, bottle of pills or booze. And yes i believe its different because being drunk heavily impairs functioning on every level whereas marijuana does not. Also no one is saying players should be getting high before games, but if they do, its on them, and if the team finds out, they should be allowed to deal with it whatever way they choose.
I am sure you believe it's different but a person can argue, with some validity, that career drinkers build a tolerance to Alcohol and so it doesn't effect them as it would somebody who isn't a drinker. I also do not agree with your statement about weed not impairing a person. Recent studies absolutely show that this is not the case.
Because teams are part of the league as a whole, the entire "teams should be allowed to deal with it whatever way they choose" thing doesn't apply. Yes, the team can sanction but they are ultimately governed by the league who, in turn, is mandated by the CBA. There are rules that are not up for negotiation in play. The real bottom line is that this is a business. If the business suffers, then the money stops flowing. If that happens, all the feel good, need weed, cooping stories come to an end. Every player needs to understand that. If they don't, then they will suffer a similar fate as Irving. It is what it is.
