I'll say it again, the Cowboys would be smart to divorce themselves from Dez Bryant ASAP.

I wouldn't be looking to dump him, but if the right trade market developed and I could get a first and maybe a 4th for him, I would consider it depending on where the team giving up the picks were drafting.

Why would you want to be 40m under the cap......that is a tremendous waste of resources for a team trying to contend.......we are roughly 8m under the cap this year and that is too much......next year with with 5 pen strokes we will be 40m under the cap with about 20 positions to fill
-
So I can prepay most or all of the guaranteed money on various contracts each year (and eat up the 40-50 million in the process) so i am not stuck with players that get hurt, under perform, etc beyond 2 years. I want flexibility and leverage over the player asap so the team is not trapped by their contract

After paying big bonuses and not prorating them over 5 years, I'd use that chunk of cap each year.

probably too difficult to discuss/address my ideas in this format

The 25m number includes his 13m salary......if someone trades for him they are liable, like DMurray and Browner with PHI.......DAL would owe 12m in dead money but could spread it over 2 years.....they would save 13m in 2017 and 8m in 2018

How does the $45 million guaranteed play into this?

There is still 25 million guaranteed due to Dez after this season, can the team he is traded to take on that guarantee?

I actually think Dak might be better off with Butler-Williams-Beasley, let Romo deal with Dez when he gets back.

It is only the 13m base salary in 2017 that is guaranteed after this year......that will eat up the entire 45m

He will have 3yrs/38m with only 13m guaranteed after this year

15 teams would sprint to the phone to take on that deal

It is really wrong from a team culture perspective. It just shows that a player can march to the beat of his own drummer and let down the team.

This team has enough built in, every day distractions. Any addition is unnecessary and damaging.

You don't think players care that an injured teammate refuses to cooperate and holds up the process?

If our players don't care about that, we don't have good leaders on the team.

We already know our owner and head coach are weak and don't hold people accountable.

This was a simple thing. Bryant needed to be a professional. Get diagnosis and treatment.

If he were as passionate to win, he should have made that a priority. He apparently did not.

If you think that it is not a big deal and people will forget about it, it is no wonder the culture in Dallas is what it is.

It is not about doing the right thing, every day, to get better as Garrett repeats over and over.

It is about covering up, enabling and apologizing.
This was not supposed to be happening under Garrert..

we are supposed to be a merry band of RKGs here..

nor a lose band of free-spirits.

Garrett and Jones should have come our and admited what was happening..

announce Dez was fined and even maybe suspended a game.

That would let Dez back off and heal..

the team could see the team disipline as expected.

Again..we show our disfunction as a team.

I wonder if he's mad because he wasn't a factor in the game?

Zoner : But he scored a Touchdown?

He wasn't a factor in the game. Trust me, he knows it.

He's scored Daks only passing touchdown. Dez was the only one who could manage to do it. Not a factor lol...... you take away his 7 and it's a much closer game than it should've beeen.

The cap is pretty complicated but your way off paying as you go is not the best method

The best method is pushing the money down the road and taking the hit when the cap is higher

Dead money is not the enemy...... it is smart accounting......like a business taking on debt to expand instead of using the pension fund cash, especially when the interest is 0

They fined him like any other team would've done. What else should they have done?

No doubt and its great to see the contract structured so this is a possibility, it makes me think they had similar concerns with Dez. I usually consider myself pretty good with numbers but this **** confuses me.

Is this correct:

Guaranteed Amount = $45,000,000
Bonus paid = ..............($20,000,000)
2015 Salary Paid = ......($3,000,000)
2016 Salary Paid = .......($9,000,000)
Remaining guarantee at the end of this season $13,000,000 (which also equals next years base salary)

What is the dead money hit if they were to trade him at the end of this season?

;-)

I'll leave the bait in your trap..thanx.

There was no bait or trap lol. I don't get it.......I asked a simple question and i'm getting denied? Ouch lol. You said this was not suppose to be happening under Garrett despite Dez being here prior to Garrett. All of the headaches like Hardy, McClain.........clearly moves Jerry wanted in here.

If I was worth millions to my employer and there were 29 other large companies willing to give me the chance - I'm sure they'd be pretty fine with it. There's a reason Dez can get away with more than the parking lot staff.

Maybe we can get Greg Hardy's opinion on that.

that is right

if they were to trade him at the end of the year, any time before June 1st, the Dead Money would be 12m....but that would still save 5m off his scheduled cap hit of 17m....... but that would be the end of it

Perhaps, but I still I think there is value in structuring contracts with the ability to rid yourself of the player after two years, especially if he is an older player on his second or third contract. I'm pretty sure Denver has done this with some of the free agents they've signed but I'm too lazy to look it up.

My idea is to "overpay" for lack of a better description in the first 2 years (when they're likely to perform best and be the most healthy) so the 3rd year and beyond is a lower base salary that isn't even guaranteed but the player is under contract and under their control giving the team flexibility in trade, cutting the player or keeping him at the reasonable rate outlined in the contract.

I'd rather have too much cap space, Its easily burned off and gives you more options than kicking the can down the road and continually boxing yourself in a corner.

Problem is, players won't sign your contract. Then what?
