Davis article from Washington Post

The guy was the second overall pick in his draft and made a bus load of money (40 million!!!) from that rookie contract.

He was expected to be an elite player. Specifically, an elite left tackle. He was to be their Orlando Pace or D'Brickashaw Ferguson.

Clearly he hasn't lived up to that.

They expected to get a lot more than a good offensive guard when they drafted him with the 2nd pick in the 1st round.

Can't blame the Cardinals for being very disappointed in him or wanting to cut ties with him.

None of this means that Davis can't play. He's just not the elite left tackle that the Cardinals thought they were drafting.

By the way, the Cardinals picked Davis over some pretty good players:

Richard Seymour, Steve Hutchinson, Nate Clements, Deuce McAllister, Reggie Wayne, Drew Brees, Alge Crumpler, Chad Johnson, and some guy by the name of LaDainian Tomlinson.

Think about it.

How terrible would it be to know that you picked Leonard Davis instead of LaDanian Tomlinson?

That would be a tough mistake to live with everyday ....

That's why they are the Cardinals :laugh2:

But you're right, they really passed on some serious talent.

Not really. This guy is reported to be a bad teammate, lazy and underachiever. Don't want any part of that. Never did and never will. Its just people in Washington aren't Texas homers like some are on here who still think after 6 years of sucking, he can become what he should have been.

You mean like most of the players that your team always signs?

Got it!

:laugh2:

LT would probably be close to being out of the league by now if he was drafted by the Cards.

Oh lets not forget Deion, he jacked them real good too..

I remember when Deion retired and came on TV. The Midget still owed him 6 mil...and Deion said on TV, "Tell Mr. Snyder I love him." :laugh2:

And, Deion did it on just 9 toes!

I will hold my judgement on Davis.

Everyone believes he has the physical tools and ability to excell in the league. There is no doubt in that. However, it is his motivation, dedication, and committement that people questions, even since his college days at UT. If you take sometime and scour around Card fan boards, they mostly echo the same sentiment.

His scouting report coming out of college

Negatives: Has a tendency to tire and wear down and will do so a lot more quickly when he is over 370 pounds. Can be lazy. Will look for the easy way out when he tires and just leans on people instead of bending his knees and moving his feet and looking to finish his blocks. Is off balance because of sloppy footwork at times and the problem is compounded because he doesn’t have great agility when he weighs in at 370 pounds. Struggles to handle a counter move. Late reacting at times. At times looks like he lacks some explosiveness in his lower body. Is not an overly instinctive player on the offensive side of the ball yet, and he seems to lack some read-and-react quickness. Does not spend enough time in the film room to really study an opponent.

In addition, last year (2006) he reported to the AZ training camp being overweight and out of shape. The year before (2005), he was listed as the heaviest lineman in the NFL, weighing in at 385 lbs. From what I read, his playing weight should be 360-365lbs instead.

During the time that he played guard (2002-2003), he gave up 12.75 sacks (7.25 and 5.50 respectively).

finally, this what CNNSI have to say

Leonard Davis, Arizona Cardinals, OT/OG: This is former No. 2 overall pick has never played to the level of his draft status. After being a dominant player at OT in college, Davis has struggled playing the position on the pro level. He had better success inside at OG, but his inconsistent motor and over reliance on his size/strength prevents him from consistently dominating opposing players. Despite his inconsistencies, teams will overpay for his talent and potential.

Final thoughts, Davis is a fine physical speciment. If he does pull his act together, he can excell in the league and the Cowboys will have a good lineman on its team. The question is, will we see the old unmotivated Davis or a new, revigorated Davis. And this a risk that the Cowboys must take if they do sign Davis.

good post soccerbud

most impending FAs looking for a big contract, go onto have career seasons before hitting the market, so it's kind of wierd that Davis was just OK, I understand why Dallas is just setting parameters of a deal, I too wouldn't be in a rush to sign him

Things change...it's up to the player...now.

I hope and pray the Commanders sign him so that could be one less mistake for Jerry Jones to make...

Well the income tax in DC is obnoxious whereas there is no tax in Texas so that does help our cause. Lokks to me hes just trying to get leverage.
Nobody on the Commanders lives in D.C., for goodness sakes. VA taxes aren't that high -- I suspect most of the Commanders live in Northern Virginia.

Im sure as hell ready to hear the oline is getting fixed.....Colombo, Davis.....someone.
