The guy was the second overall pick in his draft and made a bus load of money (40 million!!!) from that rookie contract.
He was expected to be an elite player. Specifically, an elite left tackle. He was to be their Orlando Pace or D'Brickashaw Ferguson.
Clearly he hasn't lived up to that.
They expected to get a lot more than a good offensive guard when they drafted him with the 2nd pick in the 1st round.
Can't blame the Cardinals for being very disappointed in him or wanting to cut ties with him.
None of this means that Davis can't play. He's just not the elite left tackle that the Cardinals thought they were drafting.
By the way, the Cardinals picked Davis over some pretty good players:
Richard Seymour, Steve Hutchinson, Nate Clements, Deuce McAllister, Reggie Wayne, Drew Brees, Alge Crumpler, Chad Johnson, and some guy by the name of LaDainian Tomlinson.
Think about it.
How terrible would it be to know that you picked Leonard Davis instead of LaDanian Tomlinson?
That would be a tough mistake to live with everyday ....
