News: DC: Cowboys Agree To Terms With Pro Bowl DE Greg Hardy

Not sure if this has been mentioned (I haven't read the posts) but the deal contains a no franchise/tranisition tag clause. He'll be a free agent in 2016 and will likely want to make as much money as possible. I doubt he'll be a Cowboy after this year, but who cares - we got him for a year. Let's try to win one.

My guess is they are expecting a 6-8 game suspension, which cuts the money in half.

Then, there's the franchise tag if they want to keep him, or they can extend him with a longer deal.

I really wanted him long term, but after seeing those contract details, I'm completely happy with it. The only problem will be that if he plays lights out we will likely lose him and be back in the same hole...but at least we'll have cap space!

Franchise tag.

Where u been erod . Can't tag him that what everyone is screaming about

Wouldn't the incentives for games played go under likely to achieve incentives? If so I don't think they would take the suspension into account as far as cap hit and those incentives would apply for this years cap. On the upside those suspension games would take away from the likely to earn incentives and add that loss to next seasons cap. If all of the above is true that is.

For an incentive to be "likely to be earned", I believe you look to see if the player would have met the incentive the previous year. He only played 1 game, so only 1/16 of the weekly roster bonuses are LTBE. None of the sack bonuses are LTBE. The workout bonus is LTBE. Therefore his cap hit this year is base salary + workout bonus + 1/16 roster bonus. Any other incentives he earns this season will count against next year's cap.

Seriously?

Retaining
i' m not good with cap stuff, for the people that are, are we in Cap hell next year too? like if he tears it up will there be no way for us to even compete to sign him?

We are not in cap hell this year and we are not in cap hell next year. We are in a very good position next year with Romo's cap hit decreasing by $10 mil provided we don't mess with it this offseason. We have the opportunity to rework Tyron's deal and get another big cap savings next offseason as well.

There will be plenty of money to sign both Hardy and Dez long term if we want to commit the money to them.
