A Jason Hatcher picture and cat motivational poster on Marinelli's wall.

Get out while you can, Kraken.

Did you also see the quote from Chuck Noll on the wall?

Marinelli's not a real Cowboy!!!!

The Cowboys have come INCREDIBLY risk averse when it comes to player acquisition. The biggest risk they are ever willing to take these days seems to be in trading up in the draft, but they seem dead set NOT to risk CAP any longer. They really seem to want value for each dollar spent.

This is very true. We also only seem to do1 or 2 year deals. Here is a thought on this one. They see Hardy as a one year rental. When 2016 starts Dlaw is entering his third year and they foresee him to be a pass rush specialist. They draft a DE high this year. So going into 2016 you have a 3 year vet in Dlaw and a 2yr vet in the other end. Both cost a lot less than Hardy who will be 27 and wanting a Suh like contract. And in another year they may have that same dilemma with Dlaw when he becomes a FA.

It was conjecture and I could take both side of the argument because there are no facts that could prove either position wrong at this point.

Exactly........the fact is the Bucs were not interested. If they were they would have had him come to Tampa.

Just posing a question for any ones thoughts, with this signing of Hardy, "IF" The Cowboys have any intent of even attempting to Aquire Adrian Peterson are they now only in a position to bet on his release? OR- Does this signing close the door for good on any future hope of getting A.P. behind that O-Line?

That's certainly a valid point. I don't feel pressured one way or the other to take a certain position to be honest. Just go BPA.

BPA doesn't work at this stage. Dallas still has 4 starting positions to fill (rb, cb, mlb, DT) and Romo is limited for time. Dallas has to find a starter at #27 at positions I mentioned.

Per-game roster bonuses that are deemed NLTBE, like most of Hardy's will be, get charged to the cap as soon as they are earned. His sack incentives won't get charged to the cap until the end of the season. So, once we know the length of his suspension (if any), we'll know how much cap room we'll need to carry into this season for him.
Thanks for finally showing up.

I was talking about the Cowboys taking the risk and offering him a long term contract befitting a top 5 pass rusher.

It's a risk, but it's one I would take.

I know what you are saying, but again unless Jerry wants to whip out the checkbook now for Suh money it's not in Hardy's interest to do so. You might take that risk, but given the unpredictability of Diktator Goodell and a looming suspension I'm not a fan of it.

I also don't think it's an accident they came to Dallas for the this one year show me deal. Hardy will be on national television in the top rated games every other week next season. He will go for the average fan from "that guy that got suspended for beating his girlfriend" to "that guy I saw beating down Eli on Monday Night Football." He's going to get the exposure here he never got in Carolina. This time next year every fan of every team is going to be screaming on message boards to go get Hardy.

Again, I think Hardy's play all along was for a 1 year deal. Could Jerry have blown him away with a monster contract and got something long term? Maybe. But it really would have been a huge risk for the team, and I don't blame Jerry for taking the safe play here. You know he will be selling Hardy the snake oil all of this season to get him to stay.

You are acting as if Dallas unilaterally decided the terms. Both sides wanted something - Dallas, protection against Hardy going Gonzo during the year, Hardy, a contract paying him as a elites pass rusher. The parties both gave and protected themselves; Dallas does not have guarantees against the cap, Hardy is a FA next year.

I personally doubt he is going to have a chance at running behind this team's line.
The Cowboys are not going to trade for him, I believe stemming from their new-found philosophy of trying to be efficient with FA dollars and build through the draft.
Getting Peterson through a trade and taking on his contract goes against everything the team has stated it wants to do going forward.
If he gets released then all bets are off, but I still doubt it. He will want money and I don't believe the Cowboys are willing to make Romo redo (I forget the term right now, once again the bottle is affecting my... fingers) his contract so that they can have good cap space next year.

Long story short: No.

that's dumb as hell! sign him to several years. One year is a idiot move and puts us right back in the same boat next offseason. Were taking all the risk signing this guy. Another team can step in and take him after we take all the bad PR. This is nonsense

Hardy may have been asking for the moon and it could'nt fit
in our salary structure. Honestly i 'm surprised they opened up
the purse strings as much as they did. Everybody would like a longer contract

Hardy signed a one-year contract with the Cowboys shortly thereafter, the team announced. It's a highly incentive-laden deal that could be worth up to $13.1 million with no guaranteed money, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source involved. Rapoport added that the Cowboys can't use either the franchise or transition tag on Hardy.

The contract is structured to protect the Cowboys if Hardy faces a suspension, as more than $11 million of the $13.1 million maximum comes in the form of per-game roster and workout bonuses, a source involved told NFL Media's Albert Breer.

This article say that they "can't" franchise him. I assume that means this year. So this seems like a well structured deal. :)
