But we were lost in defense which essentially means ANYONE can beat our D. And rankings say one thing but the Titans have a solid offense. Hunter, Wright and Washington? Its not what the Bears throw out there but that has to be a top 10 receiving core. Then they have those 4 running backs.....

I understand what you are saying. What has happened does somewhat fly into the face of popular opinion. The trouble is, it is generally the national media that drives popular opinion, and the national view often is not supplemented by the benefit of actually watching the Cowboys games last year. Had they watched, they would understand there were alot of extenuating circumstances behind the epic failure our defense was last year; namely injuries and the scrubs brought into replace viable starters.

I for one actually predicted prior to the season starting that the Cowboys defense would rank in the top 20, but I'm starting to reconsider that prediction, given the struggles the Cowboys are having with generating pressure with the front 4, their horrible zone coverage, and their inability to shut down tight ends. If the Cowboys don't get those three issues corrected soon, we will see a serious dip in their rankings over the next 4 or 5 games.

2. Games. Lets wait 4 or 5 more games to really get a feel of how this defense will be.

I know Philly and Indy go tonight so at worst the Dallas "America's Team" Cowboys would be 13th in overall defense as for POIimprovement.TS / GAME ..... which I believe is the number one judge of a defense, because after all you win or lose by the SCOREBOARD .....

Not sure about y'all ..... but I'll take it ..... That's better than I thought they would be and I hope they can stay in at least the top half in the league much less the top third where they are now ..... now I know it's just two games into the season but still I'm going to give the Defense some credit

11th in points / game (19.0)
13th overall in yards / game (316.5)
12th overall in passing yards / game (212.0)
16th overall in rushing yards / game (104.5)

and if you're interested in the offense:

18th in points / game (21.5)
8th in yards / game (375.0)
22nd in passing yards / game (201.5)
2nd in rushing yards / game (173.5)

After the first quarter of the San Fran game I was horrified by the appearent lack of progress of the defense. The last 6 quarters has shown there has been significant improvement. It seems man to man is more to their skills than zone.

Last year after two weeks, Eli had more yards than Peyton, the Texans were in first place, and Miles Austin was top 10 in the NFC in receptions.

People are going to say "its early" and "this means nothing" but I ask those same people, did at ANY point in this season you believe we'd be 11th overall in defense? I know I didn't. I expected us to come out the gate and have to score 30 to win every game. Well, ATLEAST 30.

dallas played one good team one bad team. so therefore we are 1-1 and the stats are not fully being pulled along to show the real story yet. ITs early. Wait til dallas has played 3 good teams and see where the stats are. Stats against bad teams is useless and leads many to inflate talent that is just not there.

I think this group of guys are definitely playing with a chip on their shoulder after hearing non stop about how historically bad they we're going to be. I also think that there's been talent on this defense, but Kiffin's Tampa 2 defense was horribly primitive.

I believe that the rushing numbers and the time of possession are both playing a part. If you keep the other time off of the field your numbers will look better overall. I think this team will be better, but I also think this team need better tackle play on defense and better secondary play. Rome wasn't built in a day though. I'm hoping this team will be in the middle if we can't keep teams off of the field. I see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Come on.....who's said this? Its about progression. We're seeing progression as of now. Last week no one had any problems with everyone saying "We're the worst team in the league".

live in the present this week we're great I'll buy that

I have to admit the D is playing better then I though they would and the O is playing a lot differently then I expected. I truly expected our team to win/lose 35-31, 42-38 type games. Litterally. With Romo and Dez terrorizing the league and Murray a competent keep em honest role player. Its different and weird but I'll take it. Overall I would say were playing better then I figured though I think 1-1 was possible with the team I envisioned, have to see the finished product to know for sure, we'll see in December.

I expect we will give up points when facing high powered offense, heck the NFL rules are set up for offense. Even the great seahawks forked over 30 point to SD yesterday. My hope is even in games like that, the defense will find ways to rise to the situation to make critical stops to give the team a chance.

Against the true elite teams, I am thinking were going to get schooled petty handily. I wont mind those so much so long as against the rest of the league were playing good solid ball. Course that said, New Orleans I figured would be top tier, I'm not sure what to think at this point of the season so far. Just goes to show any given Sunday. This is a weird season and weird things can happen, like the boys in the playoffs...dare I hope. .

Way too small of a sample size to mean anything, we'll see where we're at come December. I'm guessing 22-28th defenselessly in PPG, while 8-14th offensively.

Offense will be average/slightly above average until Romo gets back to 100%, Defense has been a pleasant surprise though.

What I expect is that they will give up some plays my hope is they make some as well. I can deal with a CB giving up a TD as long as the CB shows the ability of putting it behind him and getting back out there and making some big plays as well.

True people need to take a wait and see, my issue where was the wait and see as many here slammed and claimed them to be the worst in the NFL before they played a single reg season game? Where was that attitude no people the same people jump to their own negative conclusions. It goes for most topics around where the same people day in and day out look to slam the Cowboys.
