It's a passing league and at the end of it, 38 points are more than 35!
Congrats Patrick, and congrats KC!!!

KC got to the super bowl due to a great D performance vs Cincy.

Sorry, Mountain, weak argument.
It’s just another Dak bashing thread . Egirls made it to SB with #2 defense and 49ers made it to championship game with #1 defense.

If you don’t have that then you need an Elite QB. Unfortunately not enough Elite QB’s to go around for 32 teams .

But great defense will continue taking you to championship games and Super Bowls while it could be overcome by the greatest QB’s.

At the end of the day it's an offensive game, and in todays NFL, a great offense usually beats a great defense.

This isn't the 90s or early 2000's anymore where you could win with great defensive play. You're not allowed to play defense the same way anymore and the game has been geared more towards the offensive side of the ball while more rules have been put in place that make playing defense harder.

These defenses were #1 and #2 in the NFL in sacks and both teams put up at least 30 points.

Jalen Hurts accounted for 4 TDs while Mahomes won the Super Bowl MVP and played lights out. It's a QB game now more so than it's ever been. As Warren Sapp said recently "You train to be within 1 score at the end of the game now and you let your 100 million dollar QB take you home". That's exactly what we saw last night.

A good defense is a great thing to have, but if you don't have the offense then you don't have anything.
It did fir the broncos in 2015z

I believe CATCH17 made a similar post in the past touting a defense that was just good enough to go along in support of a QB who, if he possessed the talent, could get things done if not all personnel positions were pro bowl caliber.
Don't have that in Dallas.
Last night was a very good Eagles defense but a QB and playcaller that were just one step ahead it seemed.

For my opinion it's easy.
Dak can't beat 4 straight playoff opponents regardless of coach, scheme or personnel support.
He is an extremely poor decision maker with the ball in his hands especially in big games.
No amount of coaching, scheme or personnel support can overcome that.

Definition of a team held hostage by QB purgatory.
well, Hurts needed a really good defense and for the most part their defense was pretty good. its also not just the defense, but supporting offensive cast. philly by far the best OL in the league, top 5 or better WR group, top 5 TE and a great running game, not to mention the OC.

but KC has Mahomes, a generational talent at QB. hard to find, but it hides a lot of warts. their defense was just good enough.

and if Dak can't do what you said, then we need to replace Dak. but there is no plan in place.

at this point everyone is just repeating the same thing over and over and over and over and over again. not sure what beating a dead horse will get us. He is not elite. needs a lot of support and the team around him is not good enough to overcome his deficiencies or the rest of the team.

I don't hear any solutions. All I hear is complains.

and in 2 or 3 years a team will play a great defensive game and then people will say see, see... I told you defense wins championships.

FACT as I have been saying for a decade AND GET REGULARLY BLASTED FOR IN HERE....ELITE QBs win championships. Are there exceptions? Sure, but what was the MVP voting this year? I honestly dnt know, but Hurts had to be second behind Mahomes.

You better have elite or you are just praying that everything goes perfect for you. Unfortunately for us, Mahomes is the next Brady.... get ready for another decade of Chefs SB appearances..... I mean, cmon, Andy Reid is clearly the best coach ..... since Billy Boy lost Brady.
finding elite is difficult. there is at most 3,4 each year. I don't consider Hurts elite. he is good to very good. he had a very strong supporting cast around him. but Mahomes as you said is generational talent. not easy to find. that's why its called generational talent.

so which means 28 teams should just give up every year, try to race to the bottom because they don't have elite QBs and hope to draft one. and maybe 1,2 hit it in a year. which means the rest go fishing again.

Simply put…we don’t have a QB on the roster that can win a SB no matter how good our defense is.

KC's defense actually played well all things considering. They held the Eagles Running Backs in check, and put the game squarely on Hurts. They refused to let the Eagles hand the ball off and churn off ground yardage (unless it was hurts).

The Eagles defense did nothing...and took no aspect of the Chief's offense away. They could run, pass, QB run, screen, whatever they wanted.

Not to mention, that it's almost impossible to keep a great defense together for long.

It takes a few years to assemble 3 or 4 good DLinemen, a good LBer or two, at least 1 shutdown CB, and a really good safety, and then fill out rest of defense with average to good players. AND get a top notch DCoord.

Can't have any weak links to have a great defense.

Then, by the time your putting the finishing touches on ur all star defense, the first players you got at the beginning of the build are ready for a new contract. You just can't pay 6 or 7 star defenders Top5 money at their position like you used to be able to 35 years ago, unless you field just a complete garbage offense (OR, have a QB on rookie deal)

I think the eagles game plan was to keep Mahomes on sideline and up till halftime they did but one team adjusted the other didn’t

Reid is an all time great

Yep...

And if not for their fumble on the punt return...it would have worked. Eagles held the ball all game long.

Chiefs simply made no errors though. Eagles made two.

I still think a good defense wins championships but a poor field to play on nullifies a great pass rush!

The eagles d had no answer for KC in second half but you’re right those 2 things were huge
