Are you assuming that to make yourself feel better about greatly overspending and giving Haynesworth 12 million a year over 4 years or because you suddenly realize what an extra million per year could have gotten you? Just wondering because it was spun brillantly. ;)
Yes. I feel warm and fuzzy inside just thinking about it.

Or no. I assume because DeMarcus Ware is better, younger and comes with about half the question marks + baggage that Haynesworth brought.

I'm just saying thats a lot of money. Nothing more, nothing less. It was not a shot at your team. I was just suprised to see that. This is my first day on your board and I was wanting to read about the cowboys since the hawks are playing them this week. Don't want to start off on the wrong foot here and have you guys think I just want to come bash your team. That was just a headline I was not expecting to see.

Fair enough. Of course, Ware was going to get a big contract. I'm surprised, frankly, that it wasn't bigger. Most of us are just happy it's done here, and are very comfortable having Ware locked up.

Good luck next week. You're catching us at a bad time from your perspective, I think. It should be a fun game.

It is just the nature of the NFL. Top guys are going to make an insane amount of money. You hope there is no drop off due to age or injury, but there are no guarantees. They all know the risks when signing guys to these contracts. It is worth it in many cases. It is better than the alternative of losing them to another team.

Wow. Thats a huge contract. 40 mil guranteed? Thats like being the number one qb taken in the draft. I hope he continues to play at a high level because that is a huge chunk of change to justify paying a guy if there is any dropoff at all.
Funny coming from the guys who overpaid Grant Wistrom in free agency. That's why we had so much flack from Greg Ellis because he signed a much cheaper deal just a few months before free agency that year.

Jerry Jones pondered doing that with another player several years ago. Thnak God he wised-up, and decided ot let Julius Jones go to Seattle instead. That freed up the money needed to extend a real player like Demarcus Ware! :laugh2:

Thanks for the welcome guys. We felt the same way about leroy hill in the offseason. We just wanted to get him signed. Speaking of which, both he and trufant will be playing in the game next week. Tru has not played yet and hill was hurt opening day. So I will be glad to see those guys back.

I think we are catching you guys at a bad time too. The cowboys looked pretty good yesterday and are riding some momentum going into the game. Meanwhile we are just trying to get healthy and are still trying to figure out our new schemes. We have been wildly inconsistent.

I dont think this is correct. Didn't Parcells want to draft Spears with that pick? I don't think Merriman was in the conversation.

I asked Tom Ciskowski if there was much debate between Merriman and Ware, and he said "no."

He said, "we just went with the higher character guy."

Pretty much the deal I thought he'd get.

He's not a greedy SOB, and I didnt think he'd get mroe than Haynesworth.

Perfect contract IMO. He got paid, and we didnt completely break the bank.

Why didnt we lock him up 7 years tho?

thats the opposite of the story bryan broadus tells. It was all about the postons and stephen and jerry told bill he would never sign so they all agreed on ware.

Ware Getting $78 Million, 40M Guaranteed
Posted by nickeatman at 10/26/2009 3:45 PM CDT on truebluefanclub.com

While the Cowboys are expected to announce the contract extension of DeMarcus Ware here at 4:30, it’s believed the outside linebacker will receive $40 million guaranteed over the six-year extension that will keep him with the Cowboys through 2015.

Overall, the deal is expected to be $78 million, averaging right at $13 million per season.

This off-season, the Commanders signed Albert Haynesworth to a seven-year, $100 million deal with 40 million guaranteed.

Baltimore OLB Terrell Suggs had a $62.5 million deal with $38.5 million guaranteed and James Harrison, the Steelers pass-rusher and NFL Defensive Player of the Year received a $51 million deal with $20 million guaranteed.

I think the rules changed(the max went from 7 to 6) on the amount of years because of the cba is about to expire. I remember Jerry mention that around draft time and that it could make it harder to sign 1st rnd draft picks.
