I never said he was headed to the practice squad. Maybe you think he is after last night. I’m surprised you’re even responding to me after his 2.8 yards per carry performance. I’ve been telling you and everyone else he’s not going to be one of our top two backs entering the regular season. Dowdle established himself last night as RB2 behind Pollard.
No, but you did say this:

"Everyone is pulling for him, but he’s not going to get near as many touches as fans are hoping for or are predicting he will get this season. Currently he has three backs listed ahead of him. I think he’ll make the team, but he could also end up on the practice squad."

As I posted in another thread:

Deuce Vaughn stats through 2 preseason games

13 carries 64 yards 4.92 ypc 2 td's 4 catches 5 yards (longest runs 26 and 14 yards)
Outside of 2 longest runs, he has 11 carries for 24 yards 2.18 ypc

By way of comparison, stats for Rico Dowdle through 2 preseason games:

14 carries for 59 yards 4.21 ypc 5 catches 42 yards 1 td (longest runs 9 and 7 yards)
Outside of 2 longest runs, he has 12 carries for 43 yards 3.58 ypc

So while Vaughn has shown the capability of hitting a bigger play than Dowdle, Dowdle has actually been more consistent in terms of his YPC so far and has outproduced Vaughn in terms of his receiving chances......all while Dowdle has played the first half with Vaughn playing the second half...yet all the love for Vaughn.

Interesting.
There is certainly something at play here.
Personally, I think Jerry fell in love with the media hype around the whole draft story. He got and continues to get national media attention about him. The PR folks Im sure are pumping him up to the media. And we know that the local media are lap dogs to Jerry.
And Im sure some of the more ardent posters here have some agenda as well. Not sure who exactly, but it wouldn't surprise me.
Clearly MM has a different take on things. Duece hasnt seen action in the first half of either of these games. And the spin? They are saving him for the regular season? How does that even make sense?
I wont get into a breakdown of his performance last night. Ive apparently hurt too many feelings already. But Duece as the offensive player of the game for both preseason games? Thats just beyond embarrassing. And ya'll thought the Seattle announcers were bad? Jones, Steinback and Youman are awful. Id be curious to know what their bonus is for each time they mention Duece or talk about him. Makes for a fun drinking game though.

I said he “could” end up on the practice squad, but never said he would. If he doesn’t look better next week, he could end up on the practice squad. The one thing I’m sure of is he won’t be one of our top two backs entering the regular season like you and others were predicting.

He is a rookie and you take a chance of injury just getting out of bed.

You can't play safe, that's how injuries do happen.

Duece will help this team win games but it's not like he is a starter. Trying to "rest" or "save" him for regular season is silly, especially with Pollard, Davis and Rico
I hate the analogy of you can get injured getting out of bed, the chances significantly go up playing in a meaningless game. Sorry if it sounds like I'm coming at you, I'm not, just heard that one so many times throughout the years.

He’ll make the 53 but he’s not going to get near the opportunities to run the ball a lot of fans are hoping for. Entering last nights game he was still our fourth back.
You are making a fool out of yourself making these meaningless distinctions. Each back offers something unique. Vaughn will get his fair share of opportunities and be placed where he can make big plays. He'll get mixed in with both running and passing plays. He's also going to get touches on special teams. You are making a big deal out of the negative plays - you know the ones behind our 3rd string OL. And then you criticize the Barry Sanders comparisons while ignoring that Barry Sanders also had tons of negative runs throughout his career.

I'll give you this...it would be premature to anoint DV as the next Barry Sanders and for that I would agree with you. But it's also premature to judge him as the 4th best RB going into the season. Even the Cowboys brass are in the process of figuring out how to utilize Vaughn. The kid makes plays and the team is in the process of figuring out how to maximize that playmaking ability.

Just give it a rest with your RB2 start of the season schtick.

Lol, if the dress rehearsal was tonight then this is going to be a long season. Tonight was disappointing in all aspects and Overshown is the kick in nads to completely bum me out.
What dress rehearsal? Did any starters play? I must've missed something  No starters played, and a vanilla game is being called. Who would consider this a rehearsal game? This the first I heard of it.

Kinda how I feel. They post about the boom plays and ignore the bust plays. He is far from proving that he is a sure thing yet imo
In this league there's more bust plays than boom plays, that's for every player

If you read my post I said IF THE DRESS REHEARSAL IS TONIGHT then it’s to be a long season. I also meant it as a joke pointing out that it was not a dress rehearsal. The most important word in my post was IF. At no time did I say it was the dress rehearsal. But it was a disappointing night in all aspects, especially with the injuries, but fortunately it was a disappointing preseason game and it doesn’t count. We’re going to be fine. I still feel bad for DO. It counts for him and that’s a bummer.

Dak was injured in game #1.

This notion we can protect players by not playing them is false.

The only ones making a fool out of themselves are the fans who think he has a chance to be the next Barry Sanders. You’re the one who needs to give it a rest. Not wasting any more time with you on this. I’ll get in touch with you on opening day, telling you I told you so when Vaughn isn’t one of our top two backs, so stay tuned.

No I won't go with your meaningless number of touches gimmick. But if you want to place a bet on whether Vaughn makes a couple of big plays on week 1, then I'm interested.

You won’t go with the number of touches because you know he’s not going to get many. Lol Go place bets with someone else, I don’t take you seriously.

LOL your number of touches schtick was always about you and your little man ego. But that's ok. I'm sure you'll run victory laps around the CZ forum if DV doesn't get 20 carries. You'll be running around patting yourself on the back while being mocked and laughed at. I'm not worried about you not taking me seriously. It's more about you taking yourself too seriously and going around acting like Barney Fife with your "football knowledge".

I don't what your issue is with Vaughn, don't really care to be honest, being right or wrong about a player is worthless in the long run.

I haven't seen anyone say that Vaughn is a 1:1 comparison to Barry Sanders. Barry Sanders was a first round pick, third overall after Troy Aikman and Tony Mandarich, if people thought he was the next Barry than he would have gone much higher than the sixth round.

So you saying that people are saying he is going to be the next Barry is just a lie you're using to bolster your own argument that 'Deuce will not be the 2nd back on the Cowboys this year.'

My point who cares if he is the 2nd back or 3rd back the point is that he will play for the Cowboys and we will see what kind of impact he has throughout the season.

The last thing I want to say about this last preseason game is that there is just no way that they are just going to run Vaughn into the line over and over again like they did, it's just not going to happen, notice there was not one pass in Vaughn's direction all night. There is going to be a lot more misdirection and I wonder if people would consider Vaughn as a gadget back because of this.

Anyway it doesn't really matter; Vaughn has something and I think the Cowboys are going to use it and really that is all that matters.

Perfectly said!
