To the best of my knowledge, no one schemes to have an RB hold a block against a lineman. That's just not how it works. RB's are supposed to recognize when someone is coming free and basically chip or hit them to buy the QB an extra second to throw the ball. Its up to the RB to recognize the issue and react quickly. Basically, RB pass protecting is primarily a mental issue and not a physical one.

What am I missing? Do people think that defensive players are simply going to step over Deuce?
The first time he goes low and a defender steps over him, these words are going to come back to haunt you.

I had Davis as a pet cat this year, but he was lousy in all facets of RB last Saturday. Rico fumbled, and that is about the worst thing you can do as a RB. Deuce made plays and looked like a threat to score on any given touch from anywhere on the field. He should already be second string.
I was disappointed in Davis. I know he had a tough assignment with our seconds facing Jacksonville's first, but I didn't see a lot of burst out of him. He only got what was there. There were times when Vaughn definitely got more than what was there, against lesser players, of course, but he still did.

I've seen him compared to Barry Sanders and now Tony D.

I'm going to complete the trifecta and mention how he seems to look for the cutback opportunity once he gets past the los. Reminded me of another great Cowboys RB in that regard.
Sherman Williams?

I had wondered what you look like. That's about how I pictured it.

Yep agree. When you spell Pollard why put in a 3-4 YPC guy when you have a 5-6 YPC guy sitting there?

It looks like Deuce Vaughn is going to get a lot of touches this weekend. Here is what is in a DallasCowboys.com article today about Wednesday’s practice:

  • A large portion of running back reps were given to Deuce Vaughn on Wednesday as the hero from the preseason debut saw more designed runs and passes go his way to finish off the last padded practice in Oxnard. Vaughn's evolving implementation into the offense both with the first and second-teams should increase the confidence of the rookie out of Kansas State for his future role in Dallas. (Nick Harris)

It seems like he practiced a lot with the first and second teams, so it appears like the team plans on his playing early and often. That is good, IMO, because I want to see how he performs with more decent players around him. I guess that depth chart didn’t mean a whole lot.

Anyway, it is going to be very interesting. I’m so glad football is back.

well if you hadn't paid attention you'd known that Tony Pollard was out a couple days for the birth of his child and they haven't been running him that hard in practices as he is the clear number one so it's giving other guys opportunities,,.. So just to be sure people aren't acting like this might be a sign he could take more snaps from Tony Pollard I don't think so but hey I wish our whole entire team and every player on it as much success as they can get.
Nobody is going to take snaps away from Pollard. He’s a fantastic player who needs to play as much as he can.

Thank you, many don't even know what the hell you said they just want to say he has to block.
Yep and part of that is because guys like Moore and Garrett rarely did it. We have the guys for that now. And MM seems to know it.

"as the hero from the preseason debut "

Seriously? This is the kind of lazy reporting that both sets up Vaughn for a dropoff and belittles the word hero.
Someone is offended. you fit right in with this new generation of offended people.

It may not be up to the level of the NFL but what college team is oh wait he did run over Alabama did they not have any big dudes on defense I mean I get what you're saying but the man is overcome this criticism in high school he overcame it in Big 12 which is not St. Mary's Division Three this is a real power conference and he did it in a manner in which he's only the third player in his school's history at Kansas State they had 5000 scrimmage yards in fact he has more receiving yards than all the other players at his position that were drafted this year so it's not like he hasn't done it and against solid competition I mean he room TCU's chance to win the Big 12 he was the MVP of the Big 12 conference championship I mean he's on a team playing in a championship game and ruining an undefeated teams game.

I get we're only gonna see a smaller sample size of deuce Vaughn against the NFL caliber but what did Tony Pollard do in college a whole lot less then do spawn did and he did it in a bigger conference I mean you gotta think about that we're seeing Tony Pollard adjust to the NFL they brought him along slowly and I know that they're not the same size but I'm telling you the deuce vaughn's already more NFL ready than Tony Pollard was he literally touted the rock as the number one running back for his team and did nothing but excel.. Of course my expectations are lower in the NFL from this guy but we're talking about him in a running back by committee rotation versus being the guy that would be a step back from college but that doesn't mean he won't produce in that's cowboy fans why would we not hope that he has a great career even in a smaller capacity? Very similar to Darren Sproles who was very good role player did great things just never was the guy but he made an impact we just need a small impact at running back 2
I only suggested NFL defenses may be significantly better than Big 12, or any other collegiate, defenses. It might be better to see how Vaughn does against NFL defenses in the regular season before comparing him to Barry Sanders, as I’ve seen on multiple threads, or even Darren Sproles. What would you suggest would be a decent year, rushing yards and receiving yards, for Vaughn this season?

I also want throw in Warrick Dunn. I’m picking up Warrick Dunn vibes.

I agree it gets annoying with some of this stuff. But with Deuce I agree with the gleeful homers. This kid just has to show he can handle the pounding of the NFL. AS far as talent, its all there.

Ferguson I like, he has shown us a lot so far. Schoonmaker has a lot to prove at this point. Overshown I can safely say looks like a stud. But we need to see more.
I’m starting to like this draft more and more. When the draft happened I was disappointed and underwhelmed. Now I’m pretty excited. This draft class might be called the “sleeper draft”. Or the “diamond draft”. We found some late round and UDFA gems.
