To the best of my knowledge, no one schemes to have an RB hold a block against a lineman. That's just not how it works. RB's are supposed to recognize when someone is coming free and basically chip or hit them to buy the QB an extra second to throw the ball. Its up to the RB to recognize the issue and react quickly. Basically, RB pass protecting is primarily a mental issue and not a physical one.

What am I missing? Do people think that defensive players are simply going to step over Deuce?

I hope Deuce, Ferguson and Schoonmaker are good players. I am just sick of fans picking favorites and anointing them players before the show something. I don’t hate anyone.
I agree it gets annoying with some of this stuff. But with Deuce I agree with the gleeful homers. This kid just has to show he can handle the pounding of the NFL. AS far as talent, its all there.

Ferguson I like, he has shown us a lot so far. Schoonmaker has a lot to prove at this point. Overshown I can safely say looks like a stud. But we need to see more.

Good points and observations. I want to see Stephens more as well. He could be another Hendershot. I would keep an extra tight end, keep 5 wideouts and 3 running backs if I was picking the team now.

2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year.

I just have a feeling with Mike calling the plays we won't be so predictable. He already said we will be running more lead draws and screens. Something a lot of you have been screaming for. He has elusiveness. You can't coach that or prepare for it. He has some Barry Sanders in him. People have said, "Well it was against scrubs." I don't care. All the greats at one point early in their careers made scrubs look like scrubs. Steve Zouski, Mike Jameson and Mark Young. Most people at the time didn't know who those scrubs were. But Tyson made them look like scrubs because he was that good. You're SUPPPOSED look good against scrubs, or you will be a scrub.

Stephens is a good candidate for the practice squad. I like Leupke for the practice squad as well.

Personally I think Malik Davis is toast. Unless Dowdle gets hurt.

I think its pretty obvious that Deuce will be little more than a speed bump for blitzers. His main job will be to run an catch the football. Leaking out where a blitzer came from can deter blitzing as much as stoning the blitzer.

I had Davis as a pet cat this year, but he was lousy in all facets of RB last Saturday. Rico fumbled, and that is about the worst thing you can do as a RB. Deuce made plays and looked like a threat to score on any given touch from anywhere on the field. He should already be second string.
I agree. Deuce should be second string.

“just like he will now”? I don’t think the talent level on Big 12 defenses is similar to the NFL.
They said in pee wee he couldn't perform. They said in high school he couldn't perform. They said in college he couldn't perform. He did at every stop. At K-St he performed against big time schools outside the Big 12.

I think Deuce and Pollard give Dallas the most explosion they've had at RB in decades, and these two will be weapons in the passing game. Could see Pollard getting 65-75 passes and Deuce a solid 30-35.
We keep giving the ball to these two and the RB position is going to be much better and more explosive then it was last year.

He played against the SEC also. LSU and Alabama. He was tremendous against TCU in the Big 12 championship. He also was very good against Texas. The bottom line he has always been good against whoever he plays against.

Any word on Pollard in terms of how he is cutting/running in practice?

Other then them being cautious with him, I see no limitations on him. I'm not sure why everyone was so worried about him.

Great part about this new offense is they are now incorporating a lot of short dump off/leak out stuff for the backs that we rarely did before. Pollard and Deuce will thrive on that stuff.

A large portion of running back reps were given to Deuce Vaughn on Wednesday as the hero from the preseason debut saw more designed runs and passes go his way to finish off the last padded practice in Oxnard. Vaughn's evolving implementation into the offense both with the first and second-teams should increase the confidence of the rookie out of Kansas State for his future role in Dallas. (Nick Harris)
Hmm...I was told by a special CZ member that Deuce Vaughn was likely to end up on the practice squad. Apparently, Jerry Jones didn't get his memo.

"as the hero from the preseason debut "

Seriously? This is the kind of lazy reporting that both sets up Vaughn for a dropoff and belittles the word hero.
I kinda agree with you in principle because if your team lost, there are no heroes on your side. But nowadays you can absolutely be a Fantasy Football hero while having your team get blown out 56-10.

What was the outcome, do you know?
Positive outside run on the first play. Swing pass where he made Damone Clark miss for a first down. Inside run for no gain. Looked like a successful screen pass. Another swing pass and the final was a throw away it looked like towards Deuce.

Here is a link. Starts around 14 mins.
