Cowboys rookie RB Deuce Vaughn: “Being a professional athlete is something I’ve wanted to do since I was a little kid. To be out here, to be playing with guys who have been in this league for so long, just trying to soak it all in, trying to be a sponge. Every single day is a day to get better. It’s been a dream come true. Understanding that the work is still to be put in, but, man, I’m having a great time. ... ... I represent the lollipop guild....the lollipop guild....the lollipop guild.”

So what do you predict his rushing/receiving totals will be this season? He may end up being a pretty good player for the Cowboys, but if you think he’s going to set the league on fire, you’re going to be sadly mistaken. I have a feeling there’s going to be a lot of complaining on this board from fans that don’t think he’s getting enough touches. Then again, there may not be much complaining if he doesn’t do anything with the touches he does get.

I think they'll find touches for him, unless Rojo far surpasses expectations. He's gonna have to look sharp when he gets opportunities though, or they will dry up quickly.

Sounds like you think he will make the team though.

A few of us were talking in the offseason about Gibbs' ability in the passing game. But I didn't realize until we drafted him that Vaughn has just as much receiving ability as Gibbs.
Don't know about the comparison to Gibbs, but every time I saw tape of Deuce it was his receiving skills that stood out for me. He caught the ball smoothly and naturally. He *received* it.

Incredible quickness, and can catch. That's a problem for a defense.

Several videos floating around. A few of us were talking in the offseason about Gibbs' ability in the passing game. But I didn't realize until we drafted him that Vaughn has just as much receiving ability as Gibbs. It's going to be fun watching him out there if he makes the team, and I think he will.

I had the same revelation when we drafted him but I will go one step further....he is one of the best recieving backs I have seen period.

Hands...his routes are great and he goes and gets the ball.

As I said after we drafted him, we stole him.

Deuce Vaughn has heard this his whole life. And who knows maybe someday some player will clock him and terminate his career. But they are going to have to catch him first. And so far, he has made a ton of defenders look silly trying to get after him. It's not just the burst he has, not just the vision for exploiting holes, but it's that low center of gravity and fitting between tight spaces that is going to drive defenses nuts. You'll see it this season - watching defenses grow tired and frustrated trying to stop him.
Yep they said these things about Emmitt Smith also. If we are so lucky Deuce would be like him.

Deuce has all the skills required of a good running back. The only question he has always had is his size and durability. Being 5' 5", 170-180lb and regularly going against a defensive team of monsters who are typically 6'2 and over 230-300lb defensive lineman and linebackers can take a toll on the body pretty quick. He needs to avoid "blow up" contact as much as possible.

It would be a mistake to do that with Polard, but it’s all going to come down to how our RB situation evolves. Not only is he coming off a serious injury, but he’s also coming off a career high in carries last season. What made him effective is keeping him fresh. That’s what made Marion Barber and Felix Jones effective was keeping them fresh. Once we made the workhorses, they weren’t as effective. We have to hope we have a back who will have success between the tackles in short yardage situations and can punch it into the endzone from close up.
Well what we can hope for more is that the offensive line and a fullback and the scheme and the design of the play will help the run game be more effective,

I mean that is the problem we've had in the playoffs is the offensive line that's been getting there butts kicked by the 49ers and in 2018 it was the Rams. those front sevens are too much for our weakend injured and wore out offensive line by the time we see them..... that's what we need we need a strong physical offensive line that says we're getting in the end zone no matter what you try to do to stop us...

Schottenheimer:

Really a smart football player, great instincts. Grew up in a football family. Another one of those guys, (in Seattle they would make fun of me for saying ...write this down...write this down...write this down) unbelievable note taker. So we are going to move him around, from a mental standpoint thing we're doing, he can handle... plus even more. Dynamic athlete, he's truly hard for the defense to see, when he's back there, behind the offensive line. You see the defensive linemen engage and are like #@&$ I cant' see him, where'd he go? Get him out in space, he's a matchup problem. A guy that...I'm not comparing, I don't want to compare. When we were in San Diego we had Darren Sproles. I think Deuce is a little thicker than Darren. Darren might be a half an inch taller. But again there was a drive, there was a desire to be great, a desire to prove people wrong. Then when you add that with talent, intelligence, football instincts. You see what Darren did, I'm not comparing Deuce to Darren. I'm just saying you get excited when you see some of the traits to make people miss and make a cut in the hole where your like how did he get from that spot to that spot, that quickly. Again RBs going to be a fun area for you and the fans to watch because it's going to be a ton of competition.
