He needs to be able to return Punts and Kicks.
Unless they feel they can use Turpin in the passing game, but Deuce can be used there as well.

He need to replace Turpin, and they can't have 2 guys just for specialty plays / ST's.
I can't see them carrying only 5 WR's and Turpin is one of them. Though they have carried 6 and even 7 before.
I've said it before, but Turpin was toast the moment they drafted Deuce.

Deuce sure better offer something on special teams.

Darren Sproles was a terrific player and he never ran the ball more than 94 times in a season. He averaged about 45 to 50 carries per season. That’s the best you can hope for with Vaughn if he turns out. The fans that are going overboard thinking he’s the greatest thing since Barry Sanders and are hoping he’s going to get at least 10 to 15 carries per game are going to be very disappointed.

3rd and long seems like a perfect time to have him in. He’s a dynamic reciever out of the backfield. But I think RB2 is gonna be Jones or Davis.
3rd and long you need a RB that can block. QB needs time for receivers to get deep enough. Thats not Deuce. They see Deuce in the backfield and they will blitz immediately and make him block.

3rd and long. Have two TE blocking then releasing and send him out of the backfield and see what LB or safety can stay with him, plus he’s a really good open field runner

Who says there will be 2 TE's in 3rd and long?

Deuce is NOT a 3rd and long type RB. Cant pass block. Pollard would be a better option as he can both run, catch and pass block. If DC sees Deuce in the backfield he will blitz the safety or corner immediately off the edge.

Now maybe 3rd and 25 you do a screen pass to Duece?

He actually isn’t a bod blocker. You don’t want him man up on a DE but who says you can have 2 TE

Yup.

We are talking about a guy who had 293 carries for 1,500+ yards last year. 34 college TDs. We’re talking top tier CFB RB stats.

Vaughn is a RB. Just because he’s small doesn’t make him a “gadget player”.

He is a horrible blocker. Stop!!

So on 3rd and long your going to have 2 TE' in a run formation and Duece as the back? So your going max protection? It could work but you have to have a back that can block. So your basically send out 2 WR's past 10 yards?

Not the optimal formation, but sure it could work.

The key for Dallas, however, is how will the Cowboys use him? They couldnt even use Pollard correctly. What are the chances they open up a carved out special role for Deuce in the offense?

From what we have seen they have a 1 role for the RB and expect all backs to come in and do similar things. Next man up approach.

Will that change?

That’s very telling. Tony Pollard hit 21.11 MPH at his fastest recorded pace last season, and no one will doubt Pollard is extremely fast.

Vaughn is a beast.
Funny how someone was trying to convince me during the season that Zeke was faster than Polllard.

1. Deuce won’t play special teams at all, so he will need significant utility to remain on the field

2. He won’t come in on 3rd and long because he’s too small to block.

2. He NEEDS a mixture of both regular carries AND gadget plays. If he only gets used as a gadget guy, they’ll know it’s a screen or sweep every time. To get there he needs to be RB2 eventually
the same as most players, it depends on how they are used, and how often.
no telling what mm and his gang will do with vaughn.

who's going to toss him over the pile into the endzone? Any shotput specialists on the team?
I envision a play where Schoonmaker motions late as the ball is snapped, Vaughn gets the hand off and Schoonmaker picks up Vaughn and carries him into the end zone.

Then Deuce jumps into someone's large soda cup to raise funds for diabetes prevention.

I doubt he makes the 53, honestly.

Deuce is kind of the Kellen Moore of RBs. Huge college production that won't translate due to physical limitations.

People keep thinking this guy is a one trick pony, sorry. Saw the his guy against top notch competition not up against Lehigh University.

- How do you know he won't play special teams at all ? IF Bones coached up MAlik Davis and Rico Dowdle at kick off duties,.. why not Deuce ?

- 3rd an long does not necessary mean blitz block - it could mean as a receiver outta backfield (ala RB screens)

- What is these " gadget" plays you guys keep talking about ? What gadget plays was he running at KSU ? He had several plays where he worked downfield as a
a receiver outta the backfield and numeral swing and dump off passes ?

Seems like your expectations and view of Vaughn is clearly a lot different than others.
Deuce returned kicks in college.
Deuce is a competent receiver and an open field fiend.

They learn to be patient and let the blocking develop. They can get lost, and hit a crease for sure.
Now we are talking - transitioning to the NFL.

Plays happen much faster. Holes much smaller. Passing windows condensed. Players are scheme sound. Bigger, faster.

College football is light years different than playing against grown *** men that have been doing it for years. Grown *** men that were alpha dogs in college.

And you are right. Small, undersized, slow players do get lost. Lost to the XFL.
