Seattle isn't signing Russell Wilson. Denver is holding firm in Demariyus Thomas. Atlanta is at a stalemate with Julio Jones. Dallas is the same with Dez. Etc, etc, etc.

The owners will win.

I'm not convinced the market has "dictated" that Dez is worth $14-$15 mil per season.

I see one guy who received a goofy contract years ago due to his ridiculous rookie deal.

And I think that one guy's goofy contract is making things more difficult for all of these teams trying to negotiate with their superstar receivers.

All of their agents are trying to point to that goofy contract saying "This is what we want!".

Oh exactly right!

And the teams are rightfully digging in their heels.

BUFF just used 2 firsts to get Sammy Watkins. They traded a 2015 first to move up with CLE last year.

Granted they don't have to pay Watkins 15m+, but they did spend 2 firsts.

Since the draft is over, it would be a 2016 and 2017. For a team like NE it might be worth it. A couple late firsts for a top WR to match with Gronk, Edelman and Brady.

Hey bk, I think it might have to be two 1sts from the next draft. So two 2016 1sts.
Otherwise--if it was a 1st in 2016 and 2017--the perceived value would only be a 2016 1st and 2nd rounder.
So a team would either have already have two 2016 1sts or they'd have to trade to get and extra one.

As for Watkins...good point...about it not also coming with a giant contract. They get him for 5 years at a decent rate.

Both Dez and D Thomas are really in almost identical situations right now.

My guess is that even the most recent somewhat expensive WR contract--Maclin in KC--will ultimately show that KC overpaid.
Just like Miami overpaid for Wallace and badly regretted it.

And those numbers are a fraction of what Dez' camp is asking.
Dez is better, yes, but the stats were not much different between those players.

No, they really aren't.

And considering Dez's shelf-life as an elite receiver is probably 3 more years with a gradual descent I don't see the logic in paying him $15 mil per season when he's 31.

What the actual number is per year is really just a number. The only number that counts is the guarantee money. Supposedly Bryant wants $40 million in guarantee money. So whether it is $17 million a year or $15 million a year, in reality it will be a $100 million plus contract likely over 7 to 9 years with a bonus of $25 million and salary guarantee money of another $15 to $20 million. The salary guarantee money can be figured many ways over the length of the contract but the bonus money has to be spread over 5 years. Betting the last two years of salary with be around $20 million and $25 million with neither being guaranteed for anything, much like Adrian Peterson contract where the 3 years he has left on his contract has no guarantee money.

Bye Bye Sell.

If he wants that money then I agree. Trade, sell, hasta la vista .....players keep talking about wanting to win and their greed blinds their eyes that the team need their help to be able to build a team to win. It's not like he is asked to sacrifice that much..just allow the organization some space to build a team......trade

Sam baker just got released after a like 4/44m type deal after 1 year. The numbers are fluid. It's all negotiation. The "he's worth X amount a year" talk is silly. They let Murray walk bc they will invest heavily in dez

This is the thought process from the old Dallas Cowboys. This, I suspect, is not the thought process from the new regime. And for the record, Sam Baker signed a 6 year, 41M deal with 18 Million Guaranteed, with Atlanta. The reason they cut him was because of patella tendon/Knee injuries. He was never going to be a Tackle again. If he came back, he was likely competing for a backup Guard spot. I think it's a different issue all together.

The new Cowboys don't operate that way IMO. We will soon see what happens.

^ my point is that we can't really even discuss the negotiations bc there's so many permutations that we don't understand in an nfl contract. Your point that Stephen and Garrett have more control than ever and run things differently is true and smart and handsome of you .

Are those two trying to run the franchise So that they always have just enough to be relevant and thus always one short run away from a title? IMO yea.

But Try telling 37 year old romo they let dez walk.

Dez is the only cowboy in history to have 80 catches over 1000 yards and 10 Tds in 3 consecutive season.

NFL on Twitter just posted that. They are not helping us with keeping his value lower than his asking price lol

I do think we get a deal done but no way we can do over 13 million per. Either way it's a lot for a wideout and will burden us with a huge contract.

yep. and that owner will have to balance out what return he will get on dez to ensure he makes all that and his profit off of it. why people think this is a charity at times is beyond me.

To be honest, I don't know why folks are counting the Cowboys pennies....or even Dez's pennies. Taking sides like they're dishing out any money or getting any that's dished out. lol

Every week some insider slides new Dez contract tease for clicks and we get 10 pages of a thread based on nothing but speculation.

The reality is that Dez is guaranteed $12.8 mil based on the tag. That's a real number and the only number that matters at the moment until we get something new.

Nate Burleson, Percy Harvin, Santonio Holmes, Pierre Garcon, Eric Decker, Sidney Rice, Greg Jennings....

Receiver signings so rarely work out to the value of their contracts.

For me it not taking sides it is the fact that this contract can have a big impact on players who will soon be FA and how it can affect our ability to keep them. I want Dez to get a long term deal and make very good money, I also want the Cowboys to be wise in how they conduct business to help make this team competitive for a good long time.

It won't be the Patriots, then, because they lost their 2016 1st round pick because of deflate gate.

welcome to todays version of journalism. the sad part is the generation coming up really doesn't see the change, just argue with their phones in public as if that's normal.
