Had we franchised Dez in 2015 and not caved in on his threat to miss games, we would have saved some money. He would not have gotten paid what he did after that injury riddled season that led to foot and ankle surgery. That season and the injuries would have lowered his stock with everyone.
He made the right call to get paid.

He made the right call to get paid.

It worked and he got paid just in time. We were coming off a 12-4 season and had just lost Murray so we had to re-sign Dez. Jerry couldn't risk entering the season without both Murray and Dez.

Brown is an excellent receiver, IMO best in the game. He deserves to be the highest paid receiver in the NFL. Defenses have years of tape on him but he still puts up monster games throughout the year.

Dez, leading up to his contract extension was putting up great numbers. He had the #'s and production to be asking for top 5 WR money. He had his flaws, but most of the time his physical ability outweighed those. He should of handled it better publicly, but what's done is done.
He then went on to suffer a weird injury week 1 and was pretty much shutdown the rest of the year.

I honestly thought he had a good year this past year. Good, not very good or great. Took some time for him and Dak to get on the same page, but I thought he closed the year out on a positive note. Let's see how next year plays out.

Why does this have to be about Dez?

Brown is the best WR in the NFL and deserves every dime he just made.

He faces and defeats an unbelievable amount of double team coverage, can run every route in the book, and has an incredible knack for getting himself open.

His targets are high because his productivity is off the charts. I love watching Brown play.

Hard to believe he was a 6th round draft pick out of Central Michigan University.

Dez has 14 more TDs than Brown in 4 less games and about 150 less targets. These people would have you believe that Dez Bryant is straight slaw. Get over it. Dez is a Cowboy for at least 3 more years. Deal with it #X #cowboyszone

Interesting that you mention the "4 less games" because Antonio Brown played without LeVeon Bell in four games. Do you think that not having Bell in the backfield dictated the coverage Brown saw?
Meanwhile, Dez played all his games with Zeke, and teams often stacked the box against Dallas.

Your assessment may be correct. You have to judge stats from a particular context.

Maybe Dez only got balls thrown to him when he was in single coverage? Maybe Big Ben trusted Brown more and passed him the ball in more situations and not simply when the Steelers were in the red zone.

There are a number of factors that mitigate against the numbers scenario you're trying to paint.

Just saying. :)

Dez Bryant contract ---5yr $70m

Antonio Brown---- 4yr $68 M extension

Antonio Brown is the co-record holder for most consecutive seasons with 100 or more receptions in a year at 4 with Marvin Harrison. Dez contract averages $14 million per year. If my math is right, Brown is getting paid $17 Million per year and is the highest paid receiver in the NFL.

Considering that Dez was signed before the 2015 season and revenues have gone up substantially since then (increased salary cap) even if Dez were as good as Brown the Brown contract would probably be a bargain compared to Dez, but based on production and quality of player, Dez isn't remotely in Brown's league currently.

Dez' contract is a relatively bad contract cap wise for the team. I hope we are more judicious going forward.

How dare you!!!
Dez is the best WR in the NFL (well, except for the 'best' part)

All the above places Brown way ahead of Dez. Not trying to bash Dez he did play better later in the season but he's not the receiver Brown is or Julio Jones. Dez's stock has lowered from where he was in 2014.

He got paid

Dallas is paying too much for what they get from Dez....he's a glorified possession receiver...He's a good player, he just isn't elite..

AB makes 3 million more per season than Dez.
He is the highest paid WR in football by 2 mil per season.

Last season without Laveon Bell but with AB, Pittsburgh lost a lot of games, Bell comes back and they start winning so I'd hesitate to suggest AB is the Pitt offense.

BTW, judge AB a couple years from now not the day he signed the extension.
3 years ago no one was suggesting AB was better than Dez.

Dez is a great blocker and bully that weights 230 pounds. He's a monster to tackle after any catch and scores TDs at an unprecedented rate per target for WRs.
AB is 180 pound dude you can't stay in front of.
They are both winning pieces.

I visited the Star a couple weeks ago. It was basically dead beyond tour guides but Dez came jogging by in cleats.
Dude was at the facility working out on the rooftop turf area at 4pm during the start of off-season when even coaches were vacationing.
He's definitely been a good signing and is a surprisingly good team guy as he's grown up.
