Dez Contract Speculations

He should have the max motivation while playing under the Tag.

You can't possibly believe that he is going to hold out. There is zero benefit to holding out because they can't negotiate at that point.

The holdout talk is intended by his agent to cause the fans to have an uproar and put pressure on the Cowboys. It cost him nothing to threaten the holdout at this point.

He's already proven himself worthy. The franchise tag is a loop hole extension of time served under his indentured servitude rookie contract..

If they don't give him a contract by the final deadline then it's in his best interest to only play half a season under the tag with a long term contract goal still being the predominant mindset, one of which entails getting a Real contract the following season so they don't try to waste another one of his best years of his prime by tagging him again as you and many others have proposed.. Only to discard him once Romo's window possibly closes..

You expect the guy to play for less than he's worth in the Prime of his career. A time when he's reached his peak value and skill set, that's communism, corruption, and perversion..

The laborer is worthy of his hire and his wages are his just reward..

I'm just telling you what I'd advise Dez to do so they don't screw him two years in a row. You wanna pay me a half-*** wage well then you will only get half a season out of me, on my terms...

Pay the man or shutee town....

He is getting paid 12.8M for 1 season. The #2 WR contract in the NFL pays 12M per season. If they franchise him in 2016 it will be 15.4M. That is over 28M for 2 years for an average of 14M per year. Again, the current #2 WR contract pays 12M per year.

To say that being guaranteed to be paid in the top 5 at your position is "communism, corruption, and perversion" is the most uninformed thing that I've ever heard.

It is not a loophole; it is working exactly as designed.

That strategy hurts him 2 ways. First, he loses about $6.5 million he would have been earning. Second, make no mistake about it: He will lose value on the open market if he only plays 8 games.

If he thinks the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement are communism, corruption and perversion, he is perfectly free to seek employment in another industry.

Yeah and if he gets hurt he only gets a fraction of his value. I'm fully aware of everything you are spewing here and I'm fully aware he can hold out till week 10 if he chooses.. It's about setting a precedent now, don't tag somebody of this caliber when his value is GREATER THAN THE TAG.....

I don't think more receiving options has anything to do with this. Dez is the reason that many of our other options are productive. I doubt Williams or Beasley get anywhere near the number of open looks without Dez. A great #1 WR makes the 2s and 3s viable

Dez for sure makes life easier for Williams and Beasley--as does Witten..and especially Romo helps them.

However, without Dez (and I don't want this at all) I feel totally certain that their numbers would go up. The targets would greatly increase and they would not command double teams like Dez did.

Dallas would add a player probably in the range of TWill or better, and the teams total passing yards would be the same.
But we would not have a star to rely on in huge situations.

Your opinion is duly noted but I totally disagree.. Teams are salivating at the thought of having a Dez Bryant to add to their arsenal.. Him only playing 8 games insures he has less miles on his body...

You guys gotta think outside the box here...

That's what insurance policies are for.

I think the worse precedent is caving into an athlete who threatens to behave in destructive behavior.

The Cowboys are playing this the way they should. Bryant has virtually no leverage and everyone knows it.

Insurance is probably why he won't do this but everybody has choices. He can do the crazy and sit out as long as he chooses..
The destruction would be to not have insurance and be forced to play under your true value...

Their #s might go up. But Williams wouldn't produce like you need you #1 too nor would Beasley produce what you need from a #2. They might get more balls but they'll be much less effective

Well, nobody is salivating enough to offer up 2 first-rounders for him. They'll be salivating even less after a season where he joins late, never gets on track, and has 41 receptions for 420 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Yes he can - and that option will cost him millions of dollars.

If he doesn't like the terms of the NFL CBA, he is perfectly free to move into another industry. If he wants to play in the NFL, he will have to abide by the terms of the NFL CBA.

I agree that is the intention but frankly all it does is piss me off they don't keep the mud slinging behind closed doors instead of feeding the media mouthpieces who are happy to proclaim the sky is falling on Cowboy Nation once again.

They know the Cowboys would not be directly threatened by the holdout talk because they know it makes no sense and has zero benefit to the player. They are putting it out to the media in hopes that the fans will put pressure on the team. We can see in this thread that it does get some fans into an uproar. They are counting on the fans to be emotional and uninformed.

I take it you didn't watch Dez play in 2014...

Now your just talking in circles..

It's the off season, we gotta be entertained somehow. Enjoy the circus, get some cotton candy, lighten up...

Dude you obviously just hate the guy, probably just jealous or some other petty reason but don't passive aggressively fire shots over my bow here. I know Dez has insurance and will play because he loves the game and the team more than you do. This is a speculation thread full of hypothetical's but it sure has all the haters coming out...

I don't have any hate for the player. The Cowboys are doing what good teams do. They stay unemotional and operate as effectively as possible under the rules of the CBA.

You are just emotionally tied to he player and can't accept that the Cowboys are making logical decisions.

Jerry operated on emotion for many years and the results were terrible. The Cowboys ended up with many moronic contracts because of Jerry's emotional attachment to players.

If I hate anybody it's not Dez, it is moronic fans.

I did watch him.

You're very foolish if you think he can just skip 8 games to start the season (which would include skipping the preseason, all the accompanying practices, training camp, film study, etc) and then just drop right into Game #9 and pick up right where he left off in 2014.

dez did him self no favors when he changed agents when they had a deal almost done im not sure what this is about but the cowboys are not going to pay him calvin Johnson money they wouldn't pay murray and they wont pay dez. if he holds out like he says that means he will miss training camp and games the cowboys and dez will both move on at that point
