Dez Contract Speculations

He needs to get rid of ROC Nation. I'm sure they're influencing Condon in the negotiations. Just follow the $$$'s.

So the current number 2 contract is 12M and they want to start negotiation for Dez at 11M? When his franchise number is 13M? And his 2 year take home is 28M?

Well. Is it really Dez being unreasonable? Is DT being unreasonable? Julio? AJ? Etc?

Nope. Just a bunch of teams terrified of setting the market at WR.

The WR market is a mess right now.

All of the top contracts were dropped, traded or reduced.

The new deals for Maclin, TSmith and RCobb are in the 5/50 range.

Rookies are making a huge and instant impact.

People think that it is the players like Dez, JJones, DThomas and AJGreen holding out, but I think it is the teams that don't want to commit top dollars to the WR position like before.

He could have already signed a contract that would make him a top 5 paid WR, but he wants to be #1. The problem is that #1 averages 16M and #2 averages 12M.

Well he's worth it to us today and quite possibly the next 2-3 years.. Romo's window is right now, losing another key piece will kill those aspirations...

Apples to Apples!!! isn't Gronk still on his rookie deal, often injured and last time I checked, Gronk and Hernendez are both tight ends, not receivers...Welker is a receiver, and Patriots rarely spend big money on receivers not because they can't find them but because the return on their money you pay them is NOT there....name the last five Elite receivers that led their teams to Superbowls... two play off games last year didn't Dez have a total of 7 catches in two games, not the game changer you think he is so you'd be paying big money on a decoy in your offense..... I'd put my money on the offensive and defensive lines, that's where you win games, not on over paid playoff decoy receivers...

Teams were either double covering Dez or stacking the box to stop Murray. We had an unstoppable 1-2 punch.. Our combo fed off each other...

I just explained why the prorated issue is probably not really an issue.

The only problem with Franchising him for 2 years would be that you might not be able to sign him to a contract after that.

There is no reason not to Franchise him for 1 year.

Of course they should tag him this vs letting him test FA.

Next year at 15.3m is a little more questionable. I would probably tag him and let teams know I would move him in a trade.

Of course if we win it all this year, I'd bring back everyone(except Carr).

By next year the market will likely be set for WRs and the negotiations would be easier. There is no way to know if the market will be beneficial to the Cowboys or to Dez, but the market will be set nonetheless. Right now the market is undetermined with the #1 WR at 16M per and the #2 WR at 12M per.

The 15.3M itself is not a big issue because it is not far off from what the contract would average anyway.

"We" already have him (on the Franchise Tag). There is no reason to overpay.

with losing murray and now dez deal and hardy suspension and other things I think maybe I would tap the brakes on playoffs and super bowl talk I think its a lot to early for that

Being cautious with expectations does us no good as fans. I still want to win every game we play and I'm pissed when we lose.

I think the Cowboys contention is that one team gave a player a stupid contract, but that contract should not be the market value. If Calvin Johnson's contract were removed, the Franchise Tag would be about 10M or 11M.

It should be worth taking less than the 2 year average of the Franchise Tag if they give him enough guaranteed money. Right now only 12.8M is guaranteed. Even that is not guaranteed until he signs the Tag.

It's probably some of it.

With QBs having as many as 6 different players to throw the ball to on a single play, some OCs consider one single WR to less valuable (and more replaceable) than before.
It's also the one position that is fully stocked at the college level each year these days.

I'd still prefer to have at least one total stud, though it has been proven that if you have a QB that can spread it around, the total passing numbers may not drop hardly at all without one..

I guess we are just going to keep going in circles with this discussion. We don't have him till he signs something.. Over pay is a matter of perspective for some I suppose.. Either we are trying to win it all now or just continue to give the illusion we are...

Some of us are more interested in fielding a competitive team every year, just like New England has managed to a lesser extent Green Bay, Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

I want to see Dez signed, but at a cost that is as "friendly" as possible from the teams perspective so the offensive and defensive lines can be maintained and future Cowboy teams can be built around those units.

I'm very interested in winning 10+ games every season as well that's why I hated the other franchise crippling contract we signed previously. The way I see it letting Both Dez and Murray walk will make that other contract all for naught. I guess one and done every year is better than going 8-8....:(

Dez has no options this season and next.

He either signs the franchise agreement or he signs a long-term agreement.

I do not consider him not playing football a realistic option.

So for the next 2 seasons Dez will be a Dallas Cowboy.

Everybody has options prior to signing them away...

That's right.

Sign a long term deal.

Or don't play football, and don't collect a paycheck this season.

Or he can wait till nearly Week 10 and sign the tag, play a little bit, maybe help them get over the hump if they didn't crash and burn too bad without him...

Do you really think that's a realistic prospect?

I think it's very, very low.

Just can not see that happening.

if the contract deal gets to the point dez misses games then his stay with cowboys wont last long they will move on and so will he.
