It's not what they say, but the tag numbers are so high it's actually beneficial. Even Spencer made 20m for two years.

Spencer still wanted the security of a long term contract, he is an example of why players want the security. Spencer is likely looking at vet minimum right now. Under a longterm contract you are getting the good size signing bonus and a certain portion guaranteed which often is more than you will get with the 1 year tag

I think my love for him as a player blinds me from how from immature a man he is. Why would you put that on twitter? A cry for attention?
I thought Twitter was an acronym for an internet attention provider..?

And he could also have a serious and almost career-ending injury like Anthony Spencer while playing on that tag and then there would be no way he got that kinda money.
Anthony Spencer was 29 when he was franchised that 2nd time. He wasnt going to get another big contract going on 30.

And broke his knee in the process... He got "lucky" in that it happened AFTER the 2nd tag, otherwise he'd have never gotten it.

So if it happens in the first year of a long term deal then too bad for the team and the cap, at least the player got paid for years of being hurt.

Some fan said I love how loyal you are to the Cowboys and the thread title was his response. He also added that it's business. This things getting annoying and I feel will lead to a hold out or he'll miss a lot of off-season stuff. I'm his biggest supporter and want him to get paid, but he is going to clearly be PISSED if he gets tagged. Last thing we need is our best player being pissed. I'm not saying give him Calvin money but give this man his money. We need him more then he needs us, 100%
If he can't handle getting the tag then he's not somebody that I want to give a huge contract.

Spencer wasn't getting 20m guaranteed on a long term deal. They were looking at 4/28-32m with 15m guaranteed.

Its funny how whenever money comes up fans always turn on the players and back the owners. It never fails no matter how loved the player is.

Most are just about the team and I can respect that.

I just think of how I would negotiate if I'm applying for a job. I'm not interested in giving discounts when I'm negotiating either. It's all about knowing your worth.

You pay the best the most money. It's the price of business. We can't get by offering scraps to men playing since they were 10 for one or two big deals. Pay the man (men) and move on to building the rest out.

But I get it, both sides just negotiating. We'll know they're almost done when one side or the other says they're about to walk.

I think Dallas will pay him they may not pay him what he wants. If he want to be the highest paid WR in the NFL that is not going to happen since right now he is not the best WR in the NFL. His numbers are up there he is 8th in yards and 12th in catches but if he expects to get CJ money I don't see Dallas doing that unless it is with a built in incentive.

Exactly, but he has nobody to blame but himself for the team not trusting him. It seems like he literally erased the first 2 1/2 yrs of offseason problems from his memory.

Dez knows this is a business. Hence why he fired his old agent and went to Jay Z's company. Why? More money. Did he think this would go very smoothly? Obviously both sides are going to try and get the contract in their favor. There's a middle ground somewhere.

That's on him then and all his Cowboy for life talk was just BS

For the Cowboys, too. Because they've made comments to the effect that there's no way they could see Dez in any other uniform.

It's all posturing and negotiation. Folks really shouldn't get too caught up at this stage of the game.
