Only 2- 3 of the top 20 paid WRs have been to the Superbowl in the last 5 years. Most teams that pay $100mill for a WR are middle of the pack teams (an below) just trying to make it to the playoffs....vs teams that compete / go deep in the playoffs or make a SuperBowl run. Those teams are not paying WRs $100Million......Love Dez and want him to be a Cowboys for life. BUT I would take a SuperBowl Ring over keeping DEZ anyday and everyday.

Nowhere near a deadline so nowhere near a deal. More theatrics to come however. Hopefully this gets sorted out before OTAs. Then I'll get pissed.

It's pretty telling that 7 out of the top 10 are overpays. You could argue that AJohnson and Fitz were the only ones worth it so far and both those teams want out now.

that deal was only guaranteed for 20 million and paid 10 million apy for the first 6 years. The cowboys were going to get a steal if they got dez bryant to sign that deal. Everything on the back end was fake fairy dollars and they were likely to cut him before it ever got that far.

Actually, The Tyron Smith contract was lauded as being very well structured because it was plausible that, because of the way that it was structured, there is a good possibility for both Tyron AND the Cowboys that the entire contract has a damned good possibility of being played completely out.

Now, I agree that the Cowboys would be getting a steal to get on that type of contract wit Dez and the odds of it happening aren't really in the Cowboys favor. However, it does show some level of savvy and an eye towards the future when they start negotiations from that standpoint. I have faith the a deal will be struck between Dez and the Cowboys before it's all said and done but you can't blame the Cowboys for starting the negotiations in that ball park. To add, Jerry has NEVER let a player walk out the door that he wanted to keep around on his second contract. Not once. Ever.

As for the loyalty comment? Puhlease. The Cowboys have committed more resources to Dez' well being than any other team in the league would have invested. Sure he could have been drafted by anyone else and he COULD have been the same type of dominant player. He also could have ended up being the next Josh Gordon, or Blackmon. Loyalty is a two way street. Jay Z has trained Dez to believe that the only symptom of loyalty is money. Dez was amicable and said all the right things about being a Cowboy until Roc Nation stepped into the picture. From that point on it was all about the money. Now, don't get me wrong, I think the player should go out there and get everything he can get from this game, this team, and this league. One day he'll be nothing but a memory tossed to the side in favor of the new flavor of the game. However, there is more than one way to reach the end of a deal.

It's funny that Jay Z suddenly had a new found interest in Dez right at the time that he was about to cash in and, magically, the word "loyalty" started being bandied about at that very moment. Where was Jay Z when Dez was having problems with his mom? Where was Jay Z when Dez was being sued for unpaid jewelry debts? He was no where to be found. Dez wasn't quite the sure thing as he is now, back then. He was damaged goods with a 50/50 upside. Jay Z has no interest in Dez' ACTUAL well being and he sure as hell didn't have any interest when Dez was at his lowest. He didn't then and he doesn't now. Dez is nothing more to Jay Z than a commodity. Just like his wife. It's just that Dez is no longer a 50/50 proposition. He's stacked deck in no limits poker game. You bet Jay Z wants in on the action, NOW. Yet, somehow, Roc Nation has found a way to add the word "loyalty" to Dez' vocabulary in a mere few weeks. It's too bad because I think Dez and the Cowboys would have come to an amicable agreement before it was all said and done to begin with. The only thing that Roc Nation has brought to the table is distrust and hostility and that's no good for the team or the player regardless of where the negotiations find their end game.

Rant over/

Actually the Lions, Cards, Jets, Dolphins, Chiefs, Bears, and Buccaneers are ALL looking to get out of those contracts either through a straight up release or renegotiation. It just goes to show you that these monster deals for WRs rarely pan out (just like RBs) and the fluff money is nothing more than window dressing. The players, themselves, would be wiser to sign a more reasonable deal that they actually have a chance to play out rather than a splash deal that demonstrates to the league, in the long run, that you were never worth that amount of money and you won't be getting anywhere near that kind of money after the idiot team that signed you to that deal releases you.

He wants Calvin money plus. So you are saying give him Calvin money.

I wouldn't. If he is asking for CJ money...I franchise him this year and draft WR this year and next.

Unless, of course, you're worth $25 million. I don't know many people who take less than what they're worth or what they can make.

I get what you're saying but he isn't worth 25 million......for one season. He's worth 13 million. He'll make that 25 million one way or the other whether it's through two years of the franchise tag or a new deal.

Cruz, Decker, Nelson, Tate, Welker, Jennings, Garcon, Colston, Harvin = 3?

Looks like 9 out of 20 to me...

How many 100 million dollar players do the Patriots have? Better yet how many 100 million dollar WR's do the Pats or the Seahawks have? I honestly believe the WR market will come crashing down, maybe not as bad as the RB market but close.

Do I think Dez deserves to get paid? absolutely, I cant blame the FO for not going hog wild with Dez, and for that matter Murray.

So what Dude... We had a slightly better team and won the game by the skin of our teeth but Calvin was clearly the better receiver on the field
that game and in last years game as well. Do a bit of study and then spout, sonny.

We guarded him 1 on on the Carr game and he had more targets in playoff game. Get back to bed

Which is why it would be smart for the Cowboys to tag Dez this year and let the WR market re set itself. As it stands, it's way overpaid and the top WR salaries after this season are going to come back to earth. Next year is the year you want to work out a long term deal when the league average is back in reasonable territory.

So Stephen speaks this am and says the franchise tag is an option...

This afternoon, Dez responds to couple of folks on twitter that he's not happy about it.
I'll never understand why all of this kind of crud gets dragged thru the media like this.

They got an unbelievable deal with Gronk (he should fire Rosenhaus), if that was voided for any reason I think the new one would be closer to a hunny million than the fifty it is now.

I'd be pretty upset if I were him as well. He's given a lot to the Cowboys. I wouldn't tweet or anything like that. At the end of the day. He's earned a big pay day. Jerry would be very very dumb to let this guy go

He's not going to let him go. He's going to franchise him. Something he can do because the players' union agreed to it in the last CBA. Dez wants to be mad, he should be mad at the union that is supposed to be looking out for players' best interests.
