Dez tweet today

This pay stub hopefully with shut up all the posters who say come to TX where there is NO income tax! As I have stated numerous times you get taxed where you play at game wise.

Why would it shut anyone up? If you make $16M/yr, a minimum of $8M is untaxed. That can't be said if you play for San Francisco. That would be over a million more in your pocket just for your games in Texas.

Dallas has a favorable "red-state" schedule this year. Only five games in states with state income taxes.

As a result, the Cowboy players will make more money this year then last year, when they only got to play one road game in a tax-free state.

If Dez signed for 2.8, so would Dez. There is no reason the Cowboys should have to pay for an insurance policy. However, if they decided that this is what they would do, I would also be OK with that. Regardless, there is no reason to be fearful of an injury situation, above and beyond the face of it, if you get franchised. There are options to protect yourself as a player.

If Dallas pays for the insurance policy, the cost of the policy counts against the salary cap.

They would get salary cap relief if he gets hurt, so that is one reason to do it.

Todd Gurley had a 5-10m insurance policy at Georgia that reportedly cost 60k.

Good point. I didn't know that.

How'd he pay for that?

How'd he pay for that?

Heh!

Seriously though, the legitimate way is he takes out a loan, which would be given to him based on his future earning potential. If he doesn't get injured, he gets millions of dollars and pays the loan off. If he gets injured, he gets his insurance money and pays the loan off.

Of course, with interest.

I don't think there's a bank around that would turn down that investment.

Can the university do that? It would make sense, though. :)

They can. It was reported that UGA paid for the policy. They even increased it if I'm not mistaken. There is a student fund that they basically pull the money from. I guess it's all legal, according to NCAA regs but it was not popular when the story broke. Georgia is not the only school who does it either. I think a lot of the bigger schools do this type of thing.

Interesting. Surprised they can pay for that, but can't pay the players. Not like the insurance policy protected them in anyway*, it was just to benefit him in case of a serious injury.

My point was everytime there is a FA in football, basketball, baseball everybody says come to TX there is no St income tax. When while true they still get taxed on the road.

True but if eight of your home games are in non state-income tax states, that still works out to a FA's advantage.

I don't understand his comment about "5 years without complaining". What was he supposed to complain about?

Yes but it never seems to work, at least for Mark Cuban. What teams really need to sell is that you can get a mansion here for 1 million and acreage where other spots that will get you an apartment or 1 story older home!

Marquise Lee-WR USC had a 5m policy thru the school for injury, but he also got another 5m policy against loss of value if he slipped in the draft.

He paid for that one himself and it looks like it will pay off since he fell to the second round

The CB from Oregon Olumu will cash a 3m policy for not getting drafted in the first 2 rounds

The big schools usually cover the basic injury policy but the better players have their other premiums deferred until they get paid or deducted from any payout

Maybe they should learn how to budget and live within their means pal

Easier said than done.

You probably never had that type of money so you don't know how you'll behave.

You can tell me, what you would and wouldn't do.

The same way I can tell you what I would and wouldn't do with a gun pointed at me.
