That's a distinct possibility. The team has definitely held off on restructuring him to keep its options open. Almost every other similar contract the Cowboys have done has been restructured.
We have to consider that the Cowboys know things that we don't. They may have refused to restructure Dez because of things unrelated to his play.
Dez may be more of a headache behind the scenes than we are aware. It's not far fetched based on his prior issues.
It is a distinct possibility. It is odd to think of a Cowboys team without Dez, Witten and of course Romo is already gone.
There will be a day it happens. Witten's skills suck but he has been able to somewhat get by based on his intelligence. Dez isn't a tactician or a technical perfectionist so his shelf life might be a lot shorter.
That's what is keeping Witten on the field. No dout he's lost a step and cant get the extra yards. But his in-game observance is invaluable. On the big play agains the Skins to Twill for a 40 yarder, it was Witten (who was audibled into the backfield) he came up and yelled, even even took a few steps toward him and physically waived to Twill, to move up on the line. Instead of an illegal formation, it was a 40 yard pass on a deep inrout.
