Media has always tried to paint Dez as another TO. They see a big WR who is vocal so they assume he is just another Diva WR. That's furthest from the truth. Dez has never been about Dez. Dez has been always about the team.

Even his sideline rants were about trying to get the team pumped up.

Agreed

I wasn't a Dez fan his first couple of years. I thought he was over rated and a punk based on his off the field issues. As he's matured I've become a fan. Granted I thought and still think his contract is ridiculous but watching him on the sidelines pumping up and cheering on his team mates while he's been injured has completely turned me around.

Back to the Irvin / Dez comparisons. Irvin was the vocal an emotional leader of the team. Fortunately at that time we had three leaders who always were able to put their money where their mouths were. I think we've got four now and I'm excited about it.

Is Dez going to put up huge numbers moving forward? Probably not as there are too many weapons on this team now. but he's gotten paid and I don't see him slowing down or not trying to be an intergal part of the team anytime soon. His passion now is about winning and winning big. I can live with that.

I agree .. If Dez was throwing chairs, using scissors on other players, etc. like Irvin did, I would think much differently about him. Instead, we have a guy that's all about the team which is wonderful.
True. Like they say, winning is a great deodorant. Those super bowls, and the lack of social media, covered up plenty of stuff which would have sunk that team in the 2010s.

Not with Jimmy as HC. He would be a step ahead of the media just like he was a step ahead of everybody back then. Most of the problems came after he was gone (Irvin's legal issues, Erik Williams car wreak, etc..)

Jimmy couldn't control twitter and instagram and the like. The teams under Jimmy were just as wild as ever, but he could control the media in that environment. Bottom line - if you win, no one really cares what is going on behind closed doors. I offer Big Ben as exhibit A and Belichick as exhibit B. Of course, wearing the star puts you in a different category which can't be compared to any other franchise from the media and public perception standpoint.
