Receptions: 67 (13th)
Yards: 952 (10th)
YPC: 14.2 (36th)
TDs: 10 (3rd)
20+ yard receiptions: 14 (12th)
YAC: 294 (31st)

He's having a solid year, but no where near what he is asking for. I've seen people on the board say he is the #2 WR behind Calvin Johnson, but I don't see it. Do these stats surprise you?

He is worth top 5 money just by putting Butts in seats. He's a top 5 WR. It's up to the coaches to utilize him correctly.

Steven Jones has said that "we have offered Dez some very nice contracts".

Apparently Dez didn't think they were so nice.
While it's true he doesn't have a new deal yet, no one is in any kind of position to say one way or another where we are in contract talks with him. In preseason he said all contract talks wouldn't be done in the regular season. Perhaps he is letting his legal team do all the work for now.

It's worth noting that Bob failed to also include where the Cowboys rank in passing attempts.

Hint: It's 29th.

EDIT: Just in case anyone missed this gem:

Um, people realize we're 28th in pass attempts this season, right?

As a percentage of our pass attempts, Dez has a higher number of receptions, yards and touchdowns than he has had in any other season of his career, and his YPC is higher than his career average.

He's being targeted on a higher percentage of our passes than before, but his catches and yards per target are both right about his career average, and his touchdowns per target is the highest of his career.

Do you not know how negotiations work?

Do you not know that players can price themselves outside the team's budget?

Why do you think we released a first ballot Hall Of Famer in Demarcus Ware and let our probowl DT Jason Hatcher go in free agency? They wanted more than what we were willing to pay, no amount of negotiations would have changed that.

I think we franchise him when its all said and done...................I don't see a deal being reached before free agency personally.

I really hope you are wrong because I think that will lead to bad or hurt feelings and conflict in the locker room. Unfortunately I think you are right and ESPN will have a field day every time Dez opens his mouth.

Because they were 30+ and assuredly on the decline?

Which is almost the exact opposite for Dez?

Do you know how many proposals are passed back and forth between team and agent before a deal is ever reached? Do you know each time one side passed a deal to the other if asked they'd say they offered a "nice contract" to the other side? Think 100 percent of the time.

It's embarrassing you believe anything about negotiations from what either side says publicly.

Do we ever see WRs just running free in this offense in a game because of scheme? When we do, it's often because of Romo just buying time with his feet and free-wheeling by WRs. I remember the Denver game last year when Dez was killing off the short drag route across the middle of the field, but we seem, at least from perception, to have pretty much disregarded it.

Good point. Even the Eagles had player after player just roaming free in the secondary.

And its no excuse to say our defense sucks. Dez got shutout by Bashaud Breeland.

I think he is the 2nd best WR in the NFL. I think Megatron is the best and I would rank AJ Green 3rd.

Dallas is a run oriented offense now, so we have to pick and choose when we throw the ball and give it to Dez. From watching All-22, there are a lot more double and even triple teams on Dez because Williams doesn't scare anybody and Beasley gets open, but Romo doesn't look his way enough.

Green to me is a far better route runner. Probably the best route runner in the business. But, he doesn't beat the double team as often as Dez does. The main issue I have with Dez is that he does a hop step at the beginning of his routes. If he could get rid of that, he would be even better.

Stats disappointing, but he's made a ton of clutch grabs.

I count 4-5 games that may have been different without him.

I'll take the W's over the big glamarous stats all day everyday, same with Romo. I mean we know Dez is helluva player and he's a top 5 WR in the league, so it's really not about producing the big eye popping stats in my opinion. He's already proved he can do it, but right now running the offense through Dez isn't the best thing for this team. Sure he could put up 1600 yards, and 16 TDs probably, but it's not needed (or even the best option for winning) when you've got a stout offensive line and running game that not only scores points, but it can keep your defense off the field.

I think the reason the stats aren't as good for Dez is simply the passing design. We can be the same running team, with a better passing game, with Dez going buck-wild against 8 man fronts.

The guy is getting press coverage, a safety over the top, and a LB/slot cb on the inside. His numbers are fantastic considering how much effort teams put into stopping him.

He has had single coverage a number of times and didn't come down with the ball. It would help if they used him more on slant routes or otherwise schemed him open.

I recall a few games where CJ was held to even worse numbers so who cares.

I've also seen him put up 300 yds in one game.

Dez is a great player, but he doesn't get the numbers that a great player gets. He would put up ridiculous numbers if given a chance to run after catch with the ball. We don't seem to ever use him that way though

Sorry, but they aren't triple teaming him. At most, they have a safety over the top, but a lot of teams do that anyways. You think Calvin Johnson, AJ Green, Julio Jones, or any other top receiver doesn't see the same type of coverage?

This is true.

I just don't think we're creative enough with him. And no, he doesn't run routes as well as many of the other top guys (Antonio brown or Jordy Nelson for example) , though he is better than he was.

Still, I'm sure he'd have numbers close to Nelson or D Thomas if he was in GB or Denver.

Right, but the fact remains that he is here, in this offense. He just doesn't have that much of an impact here.

OK, here is a conspiracy terry: Jerra half a late-nite meeting with Jason and his O coordinator, somewhere in Deep Ellum. And Jerra say to Jason, he say: "Listen, old Red, Dez is gonna want a lot of money. How do we thwart this? We thwart this by not thowing to him too often. thow him the ball in his gut, not high. Then, when the money talks comes around we can say, 'Dez, mein man, yo numbers do not match the monies you want.'
And Jason say, he say: "It's a process, Jerra, but I git what you means, wink-wink"
Then they all go out to the Golden Corral and half dessert and sign autographs and make inside jokes about what just transpirated.
