Did anyone else hear Jerry with Norm...

Norm is also speculating that Dallas may be playing a different alignment next year that Norm is calling something to the effect of a 3-3-1-4 alignment. The one being Roy Williams who would freelance and stay close to the line.

Pittsburgh does a lot of these things with Troy Polamalu and i've been begging for us to do this for sometime now.

Pitt fans used to whine just as bad as Cowboy fans about Roy in coverage.

He is now one of the most disruptive players in the league and a definite wildcard in their defense.

Well, him mentioning Pittsburghs defense gives me a ray of hope at getting their DC or at least someone on their staff. I think JJ needs to put his foot down on this DC thing if you ask me. I just don't have any faith in Bowles!
the only thing JJ needs to put his foot down is his resignation from GM and football operations and 100% dedication to marketing :)

What theoretically is this starting lineup of the 3-3-1-4? Is Roy going to have to compensate for one less defensive lineman or linebacker by having to take on an offensive lineman or a lead blocking fullback for the first time in his career?

It might be good for Roy, but not good for the team overall. Just like force feeding the ball TO on every snap might be good for him, but not good for the team overall.
makes no sense for the team or the defense.

I have come around to side with those who think Parcells stifles any creativity on the part of his assistants. If Bowles were to become DC and flounder, I'd be more inclined to blame it on Parcells' mandated schemes than Bowles' lack of coaching genius.

I only caught the very last part, but Norm is on now discussing the fact it sounded as if Jerry was almost sold to the fact that they're going to move Henry to FS.

My Goodness...moving Henry to FS.......Now that's a thought. I wonder where they got that idea.................................:lmao2: :bang2: :laugh2: :bang2:

The CowboysZone does it again. ;)

Why not?

Pittsburgh does a lot of it with Troy Polamalu and we all seem to want Lebeau as our coordinator.

If Roy is playing a freelance "rover", he better make a hell of a lot of plays to earn his keep. Because, basically, everyone else is having to take on extra responsibility in order to make Roy look good. And with one less defensive end or linebacker in the front 7, Roy better not get stonewalled by a 210 lbs. running back on a blitz pickup like he was so often this season.

Enough said..... You sold me IR.

I like that they're thinking of changing things, but it kinda sucks that the team needs to accomodate Roy.

Is he that much of a playmaker that the defense should be built around him? Or, on the other hand, is he so bad at playing the traditional safety spot that this move is necessitated?

I don't like the latter scenario but with the way Roy played in the last half of the season, I'm inclined to believe it

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees

I still don't understand why people think Roy was the problem going down the stretch.

Was he the one giving up all those plays that lost the games for us?

I dont either...and he doesnt rush the passer either, nor did he come up with the totally benign blitz designs we used

David

yeah, I saw him giving up alot of huge plays and not making any in return

jimmy johnson's 4-3 was essentially a 3-3-1-4. he had haley, an OLB in the 3-4 playing DE and Dixon Edwards and later Darrin Smith (both about Roy's size at 6-1 225) playing the weakside Linebacker. Dexter Coackley was another safety sized linebacker in the same defense. Every year it seemed he was drafting some tweener to play in his defense.

Name some plays. Oh, and to get the ball rolling -- the interception in the Seattle game he made was a game-changer. It should have iced the game.

I agree...we've been wasting the guy for several seasons...it started in 2004 and has continued since then

put the guy in position to make plays, or else dont keep him here...

matter of fact, why dont we do that with all our guys?

David

It seems to me all we're trying to do is justify all the money we pay him.

Defenses are built by pass rush and cover guys.. not extraordinary safeties. Sure having them is great but only if you already have the first 2 things.

We didnt need all world safeties when we started our run in the 90's.. but we did need Haley and Kevin Smith. The fact that Woodson came along was just gravy.

Roy still lead the league in take aways doing something that he should not be doing and thats playing deep coverage 90% of the time.

Did he miss some tackles this year? Yes.

You wanna bet that this is going to become a yearly thing with Roy? I doubt it.

3 3 5 defense would be perfect because you can mix it up a lot JUST LIKE PITTSBURGH DOES with Polamalu.

Roy in that type of roll would be insane good.

Doing what hes asked to do now though we can find a handfull of guys to do the same thing for a lot cheaper.

You guys are quick to forget Roy finished 2nd for Defensive player of the Year in Parcells 1st year here when they just pretty much gave it to Ray Lewis.

That was the most aggresive we ever were with him and it came up big.

If we do indeed do this Roy will have the best year of his career.

I agree with you Rosh. I just can't imagine a Pro Team playing a Rover scheme. If, in fact, that is what happened, it would mean that we would need one heck of a FS. Would also mean that we go completely away from a Cover2. I just can't see that happening.

I remember Atlanta played something like that in or around 92/93...it was a -4-2-5 scheme and they got demolished
