Did anyone know this about Meredith?

Smelly........:D

Yep, used to rub rancid bear fat on our skin to keep the skeeters away. Only city folks bathed every week, we only bathed when it rained or we crossed a stream.

Well.....I got the hose turned on me every Saturday whether I needed it or not.....:banghead::D

I was able to find this on the Cowboys official website:

The Cowboys, in an attempt to prevent the AFL upstart Dallas Texans from signing Meredith out of college, worked a trade for future draft picks with the Chicago Bears to acquire his rights and allow original Cowboys owner Clint Murchison Jr. to sign him to a personal services contract.

So I was right and wrong, the Bears did draft him, we did trade future picks for his rights, but we also signed him to a personal services contract.

Yeah, me too. I grew up in SoCal a few miles from the beach but I always wanted to be a mountain man.

I grew up in North Texas on the Red River and by the way, I always wanted to be a Mountain Man myself. I'll take the mountains any day.

I lived in Paris, Texas for a few months in 1980 (the hottest summer on record, we were there from June - Sept, DOH!).

I miss the beach in SoCal but I miss the Sierra Nevadas even more. The mountains here (Blue Ridge Mtns in NC) are nice but they just don't compare.

It's funny, people here tell me I'm still near the beach. They must be from Iowa or something. 2 hours away isn't what I call close, we used to ride our skateboards to the beach when I was a kid.

We hit our all time high in Memphis that same summer 108 but that's night time where Pops lives :D

I had an apartment about a mile from the beach in SoCal with my girlfriend (who is now my wife) but that was about as close as I could afford. The rents skyrocket the closer you get to the water there.

That was 27 years ago so I can only imagine what they run now!
