Did Dalton play himself into a starter contract?

No. Barring a team having an injury in training camp, Dalton is now firmly in journeyman backup status for the duration

there are better backups than him on rosters right now and that’s not changing
He has entered into the Chase Daniel QB for Life Program.

I think he has played himself back into the good graces of other NFL GMs, ....he will get a look as a backup or potential starter because we see how QBs drop like flies now. It will be either Dak or Dalton in Dallas next year.. Not both. So it will be a decision need to be made pronto by the FO.
Newbie hits the bullseye.

Neither is Dak.
But the difference is Dak is 6 years short of age 33, so while I agree he isn't going to become Mahomes, Rogers etc, he still has room to grow, and he isn't on the downhill side of his career. That was the point.

I’d keep Dalton if he doesn’t get a starting offer elsewhere , franchise tag Dak if we can’t get a deal done and draft a QB.

Let’s strengthen and solidify the most important position for years to come. Worse case scenario we have added future draft capital.

Dalton beat three teams with a 4-11 record. and one team with a 6-9 record....stop the hooting....Dalton sucks...0-5 in the playoffs. washed up as a strater and back up material at this point in his career.

his output against average teams like ravens, AZ, WFT....16,17,3, 10......and half of that in true garbage time......couldn't even make the game close enough to give the team a chance..
And yet he is making a run at the playoffs on a team that sucks worse than him.

Why the pure raw hatred man? He's doing a great job in his backup role on a decimated O-line. Can't give him just a LITTE credit.

Sheesh..people. Can't stand 'em.

They need to keep searching. That’s my point.

I would love to have Dalton back but if he is looking at starting job and money it will not be in Dallas. Seeing how Gilbert handled the starting job when he got his chance I think he will back up Dak if a new deal can't be worked out for Dalton

Because anything that's a threat to Prescott's long term career here gets some of them seriously butthurt. I honestly don't understand the obsession. Dak feasts on the same low end teams Dalton feasts on, but this particular poster you responded to will bash Dalton for it while praising Dak. It's utterly mind boggling.

I don't hate the.man. I don't worship him like some.

And why I bring that up? We are ending the year aging against 4 teams that are 4 win or 5 win teams. Results show against average teams we tend to struggle. What do u think is going to happen when we get to playoffs? Any normal division that didn't suck like NFCE we would be bottom feeder. We may make playoffs because the other teams suck more than we do, not because we are good.

And thus, if we want an.answer, he is not the answer. He is fools gold. Unless you think we are going to play 6 win teams all year, next year...

One way I stay sane concerning roster management with this team is trying to see things through Jerry Jones' eyes. And I have not seen anything that Jerry Jones has seen that will prompt him into extending a starter contract to Andy Dalton. That said, it would not surprise me if another team *might* consider doing so. Which team is the question.

I didn't ask you to worship him. Not sure who you think DOES. You are making shtuff up in your head and arguing it.

We are playing the teams on our schedule. Teams that may...or may NOT...be worse than us. So what? You win the game. Why are you rooting AGAINST going into the playoffs? There is ZERO harm in it and in fact very beneficial to a struggling team like us. Even if we get our butts kicked...you get the extra game and experience. You get ONE MORE GAME to set up and play. Playoff experience.

If you were a player you'd rather just go home? I surely hope not. I wouldn't want YOU on MY team.

Sorry..I just don't understand your philosophy. It's like you are trying to prove...something....by being the debbie downer.

I told my buddy something similar. As a coach you don't want your team to get used to giving up no matter what. You want them to fight even when they're is nothing to play for. You don't want the give up mentality in your lock room. Fans can look at the draft, coaches have to worry about the culture of the team.

Yep....you have instill the winning philosophy. We'll need some luck to make it...but if this team does....a bloody exciting miracle! They should be proud of it...no matter how it happens.

One of the things I was getting at is....this whole football thing is a huge production. Us fans look at it as 3 hours on gameday. But the team...from execs to laundry crew...prepare all week. Move and setup equipment. It's a big deal and come playoff time it's bigger. It's very valuable time and experience for so many aspects of the team.

he can read a defense unlike the other guy and knows he has to get the ball out fast because of the weak offensive line. Being able to read the defense is what we've been missing with the other guy. When the offensive line was missing one guy, read that again, one guy, everybody blamed the offensive line. Let that slow reader play behind this line and he would have been in shell shock again like a few year back against Atlanta.
I agree.

sorry, have you read Poppy dog and Khiladi and catch17 (who changed his tune once he was called out) and how they were groveling over Dalton. there are plenty here who are beating the drums on Dalton and throwing accolades at him, so there are a LOT OF PEOPLE ON THIS MESSAGE board who admire Dalton.... not making stuff up. just throwing facts at the worshipers hoping they wake up....
p.s. if I am called a Dak Lover and Worshiper, because I don't just criticize him to no end, makes me a worshiper, then I can call them worshipers...eye for an eye :))

yes, we are playing the teams on the schedule. but if you ignore the facts, then you end up with the wrong conclusions and make the wrong decisions..... teams are worse than us. if we beat them. they are 4-11 so a lot of teams beat them. they are picking in the top 5 and top 10, so yes, they are bad....don't try to spin it.....

and so what? I look at the schedule, we we beat, how we beat them, how the games transpired....beating a bunch of 4-11 teams on the schedule will get you wins, but does it mean you are a good team. you have to be good to go to playoffs and succeed. bad teams don't succeed in the playoffs. Playoffs is not the consolation prize I am looking for my team to earn and for me to hang my hat and banner that we won the worst division in football....

when you take context into the equation you realize that we got man handled, beat up and blown away when we played average to above average teams....what do you think is going to happen in the playoffs? and if you want to hang your hat on beating some hapless teams, and declare Dalton is my QB, what do you expect to happen next year? when we start playing some good teams again? oh, you will say we saved money so I can sign FAs? whom and how many do you want to sign to compensate for a bad QB? is that a winning formula? are you planning to build the Ravens type defense to compensate for Dilfer (Dalton). is that the plan?

my argument with some of these message board guru's in claiming Dalton is our team's future and it will help us build a better team is that its assinine.....you build with your QB and you don't go cheap and you don't compromise with a 31 year old who nobody else wanted to build around.....you keep the one that is a difference maker on offense and build around him and hope the FO finds it mojo, gets lucky and hits on a few defensive draft picks....

and let me ask you, why do you get bothered if I do pile it on Dalton or even hate him. why does it matter to you? just ignore me if you like. you don't have to respond.
