Difference between how Dallas and Philly handle contracts

They're also looking to trade Goedert or let him go, WE would choose to keep said player and hope and hope and hope he finally does something for us
So you're siding with the Eagles over there tight end who got paid four years 57 million so that's around $11.5 million a year and now go take a look at our rookie because we chose to get rid of Schultz instead of pay him they should be getting flowers for that not what you're saying is the Eagles finally realized they made a mistake and now they're going to have to get rid of Dallas because he's not doing anything I mean didn't Ferguson just get criticized for having a bad year during a concussion year and an injury year did you want to compare stats on a rookie deal we're talking about fifty nine catches for four hundred and ninety four yards for our rookie on a cheap contract... They're tight end had 496 yards so one is highly paid and had a bad year actually a second year in a row of going downhill but you're criticizing our front office for recognizing that get rid of Schultz and now at least if you're going to have underperforming players you better do it on a rookie contract but some of our fans just don't see it you had to mention this guy now I had to prove you wrong.... This is a prove it here for Ferguson but everyone criticized every how bad a year he had but really the last two years his numbers are almost the same as Dallas Goddard and yet they overpaid the guy and you're giving them flowers you know how weird this looks as a Cowboys fan to give the Eagles props where it doesn't belong they won the Super Bowl that's what they done better

Every front office goes by a difference set of rules when resigning or extending players. And every front office makes a ton of mistakes. I would bet that if Jerry were to sign Parsons and Smith early before the 5th year option then those same fans would lose their minds about paying them early. How many times have teams signed an extension for a guy only to see the guy bomb out or worse yet get hurt and then be on the hook for some wild contract.

And worst of all, it happens every year to almost every team! Just let the ranters rant because you ain't changing their minds.

Eagles Cam Jurgens

Dallas Tyler Smith

The Eagles have signed their Pro Bowl center to a deal before he gets to the end of his current one, and is likely saving significant money as compared to Dallas, who will pick up the 5th year option at more than what Jurgens will average on his deal....then wait for the 5th year to be over before negotiating a new deal, which will cost much more 2 years from now. It's pure idiocy and incompetence.
Our front office is our biggest disadvantage.
We are so handicapped even before the season even starts.

I can't believe what Jerry has done to this Franchise.

Its beyond sad.

We have gone from a flagship team to a cash cow.

Similar numbers but Goedert plays in a run heavy offense. Ferg had 911 routes ran for 1255 yards and got the last two season. Goedert had 662 for 1088. Goedert is more efficient on his receiving numbers, has proven to be more of a vertical threat on the defense, and is also a better blocker. I don't think Philly would say paying Goedert was a mistake at all, but it isnt uncommon at all for a team to look to move on from a player in the final year of their deal.

This is Tyler Smith's 4th year. Dallas will probably sign him after this year. Cam doesn't have a 5th year option, that's why they signed him after 3 years. They didn't do anything special.
Burn!!! ouch!! LOL good info!!

Its not crap.

It is the reality that when your rivals and every other team who seems to make it further in the playoffs who have teams that are run properly do this, you will question if the FO has a grasp on what they are actually doing.
I would agree with this. Eagles have won what? Two super bowls in the last 8 years or whatever? We can hate that team but still admire and acknowledge how better they are run/managed. We are so overmatched.

As to the OP, Philly currently has:
50 mil QB
20 mil RB
30 mil WR
20 mil WR
23 mil LT
25 mil RT
21 mil LG
17 mil C

And a 20 mil dollar TE they may/may not move on from.

But yeah Stephen and a couple of confused posters here keep crying wolf on the inability to manipulate the cap year after year.
While other teams polish trophies and the CAP Boogie Man never quite seems to catch up to them for some reason.

Some people are very good at the same jobs others are very poor at.

Cowboys!

I realize it was collectively bargained, but that doesn’t mean they got it right.

First rounders get penalized for being a better player with the fifth year, and teams get screwed with the later round guys, most of which need more development time, then they can walk soon after finally putting it together.

Think I’ve said this before but would it not be fair to both sides if they dropped the fifth year option (which isn’t cheap anyway) in exchange for five years on every player?

I'll make this easy for you go be an Eagles fan I don't really care what's going on with them I just don't seriously your green drool and your Jalen hurts jersey sticking out bro don't give me that nonsense every damn day i'm seeing something posted about the Eagles in here and I'm sick of it so yeah I'm going to take it out on you you live in Florida you seem to be in love with the Eagles why don't you just be honest and come out of the closet as your Eagle fan dallas isn't the place for you apparently if you don't like anything about the team move on....

But let's wait and see what Tyler Smith's contract ends up being before you say it's gonna be a lot more and what is your definition of a lot more but I also wanna see your credentials at team building are you a gm or you just look around and leave and see what reported and then act like you know what you're talking about and in reality you're not a front office person you don't run a $10 billion nfl team so you can't walk in their shoes and sit here and post as if you're some kind of expert I don't need to know what other teams are doing as long as we feel they competitive team I don't care and Tyler Smith is on our team and that's all that matters...

The rest of it we leave up to the professionals you know what professionals the actual people are right who are running something that size and you have no idea what it takes to run seriously $10 billion corporation I mean we're talking about big huge amount of emp[oyees and business to take care of..

Let me just ask for one thing when you're burning your jerseys or giving them to charity and you're actually buy your eagle stuff you'd let us know what it looks like on you:facepalm::muttley::lmao::espn::popcorn::oldcouple:
How about your credentials? Are you an NFL GM? Do you run a $10 billion corporation? You do not know what your talking about any more than anyone else here sharing their opinion.

There are a few teams in the AFC that have a longer drought.
Only one really….Miami.

Cleveland was out of the league for four years and got an expansion team.

Houston entered the league five years after Dallas last made it.

I don’t complain about the lack of championships. Those are difficult…..it’s about not even coming close.

Sort of....Its not apples to apples you're right, but Philly still would have the franchise tag instead of the 5th year option to use if they wanted to. For OL the franchise tag is $23M, Tyler Smiths 5th year tag was $21M.

In general Philly seems to lock up guys quicker than the Cowboys do. Certainly not all the time, they've certainly had some guys they've waited on as well. They signed wentz, extended him and drafted his back up by the time the Cowboys extended Dak. They also tend to lock non 1st round picks up after year 3 while the Cowboys just waiting until the last second to sign a guys like OSA and even injured players like Steele and Gallup.

That's advantage owner. All players being 4 years, with no 5th year option is advantage players. Both sides are more concerned with the money than they are getting it right. It's difficult to make changes if one side believes they're at a disadvantage.

Your idea would be fine if it had been implemented first. But now the union would look at it as a loss.

The point here is what..?? A handful of other teams haven’t gotten it right also?

Sure, but at least they have attempted CHANGE.

Jerry for some reason thinks he is qualified to come back year after year because he played guard for Arkansas three lifetimes ago and because he made a bunch of money in business

I mean, they fail year after year….even their BEST years ended in the most disappointment, yet it’s a foregone conclusion him and his kid are coming back to run things the same way that we know doesn’t work.

Yeah he owns the team but the idea that fans shouldn’t be pissed off, and vent over it in the proper forum is absurd.

I hate the FO, but I don't see the difference here.

Jurgens is going into his final year of his rookie contract, and Tyler's 5th year option will likely be picked up, meaning they'll probably get a deal done going into 2026, his final rookie year.

If they wait until the end of Tyler's rookie season, that would be problematic. But that hasn't happened and history doesn't indicate it will (see Zack Martin's extension).

It is very rare to extend a 1st round rookie before the offseason of their 5th yr option-- it only happens like 3% of the time.

i agree. the cowboys cant sniff an NFC championship game. They arent close to being a threat.
