Difference between how Dallas and Philly handle contracts

Nah, you said: They're also looking to trade Goedert or let him go, WE would choose to keep said player and hope and hope and hope he finally does something for us.

My point was about the part in bold. They signed the guy to a big deal and now want to unload him in the last year of the deal. Nobody is taking him, and the Eagles are gonna bite 11 million this season if he is or isnt on the team.
Which you're still going off about talking about Goddert, look at post #78, have a good nighit!

They have an out, and he has a dead cap hit of 11 million this year.
You said that like it's 100+million like we have for dak! I think if you do it after the draft or after june, you may be able to split the hit in half or something

What round was Bland drafted? How about Osa?

Dak?

None of them were in the first round, yet. Contracts expired before being negotiated with.
This thread is about Tyler Smith, who was a 1st round pick. Like I said, there is plenty to critique. Being slow to sign players is one of them. But complaining that they dont sign 1st round picks after their year is ignorant. 1st round picks rarely sign before their 4th year

Eagles Cam Jurgens

Dallas Tyler Smith

The Eagles have signed their Pro Bowl center to a deal before he gets to the end of his current one, and is likely saving significant money as compared to Dallas, who will pick up the 5th year option at more than what Jurgens will average on his deal....then wait for the 5th year to be over before negotiating a new deal, which will cost much more 2 years from now. It's pure idiocy and incompetence.
So go be an Eagles fan.

We will be having this same conversation in a year. It’s how Jones works. Always a step behind. Don’t you miss the days when we were ahead of the game?

The roster building philosophy couldn't be further apart from eachother. Not possible. The Osa thing for me was just a guess. I did not think they were going to pay him. I think the same with Bland. But who knows. It's never a good idea to wait for a contract to expire if you want to keep the player.
Yes but if that player is only one season from FA and if they’ve performed well to this point….which makes the team wish to retain them…isn’t it worth it just to wait it out and bet on yourself? Can insure for injury.

Sure they can be tagged but those numbers are big and offer no cap flex. Part of what I was saying earlier with the team getting screwed on the four year only thing, and the player getting beat when a first rounder.

The Eagles also seem to be better at saying "No!"

They are probably better at not placing themselves in the compromising position of zero leverage.

To be honest if I understand it correctly according to CBA teams cannot negotiate with rookies until after they've completed the third year
