Man, you gotta come a little prepared. At the very least go to dishnetwork.com and see what their offers are so you can at least speak about it. I also checked out comcast offers before i called.

Thanks to Jaxsonsdaddd for this posting this tip.

Despite being told I was an "A-list, priority customer," I don't think they rolled out the red carpet for me and I need some board input:

I was offered my choice of:

one year of free NFL ticket
or
a free HD satelite, receiver and non-HD DVR. However, this package required a two year commitment to BASIC HD programming at $9/mo extra

She claimed she saved this offer in the system. Any advice? Thx

Got Superfan $99 value free with the Sunday Ticket.
Got 6 months free of Showtime and Starz
Got free new DVR that is going to be installed tomorrow at no cost at all
Also got my monthly billed reduced from $64.98 to $56.48 for the next 123 months.

I got the same spill. I told her I would call back. Just between us Cowboy fans, I've first got to go out and by my Hi-Def TV. Any suggestions after I call back (granted they may have me noted in the computer)?

I think they will ask for some sort of commitment, I mean, you just can't get it for free. I was going to do that anyway, so it didn't bother me at all.

I just have to call back to get Superfan at discount price later now. I thought I would get it for free, but I am not complaining too much since I was planning on getting both Superfan and buying the HD DVR anyway.

I think the key is to have something in mind when you call..If you dont they can lead you to products you may not be interested in.

For example, my main thing was I wanted the DVR and the Superfan. So I had to steer her in this direction a couple of times. She just happend to throw in some extras for me...

Oh, and no need to thank me for the tip. Afterall, if Boys fans dont look out for each other nobody else will

I dont have a number on the HD DVR but the key thing is the free switch out of it once the new product comes out...

Yep, thats pretty seems to be key and I was told I was told I would be able to do that once the new one comes out, since the current HD DVR will not have local channels in HD even if they are available.

I think it will be TiVO but my guess is it will be Huges manufactured since Directv is owned by the same company?

I will have to get Direct TV soon. I just moved to Houston and was forced into Dish Network where I live and it sucks.

The DVR box only lets you record one show at a time and you have to watch it at that moment...what is the freaking point having it then? My old Time Warner DVR kicks the crap out of this one.

I need to call Direct TV when I move again in a few months and ask for a deal that will pull me away from Dish Network, which I will "love soo much" at the time. Hopefully I could get a nice Sunday Ticket deal.

I am getting the the hughes this Monday installed with an attenna and in the late fall or winter they will send me the mpeg 4. I alraedy have an hdtv box with them, so will put that upstairs. I get the New York locall channels in HD, now I will also get Philadelphias too. Like I posted before when I spoke to Directv they said anybody who had the Superfan package last year will get it free this year with a credit.

I live around DFW, so most of the Cowboys games will be on the local Fox or CBS, so will I run into problems if I have the superfan package but not the local channels in HD, I heard a year or two ago that they often blackout the sunday ticket channel to force you to watch the local station but maybe its different now.

I'll probably get the locals anyway and its available in my area but you guys were saying maybe the boxes they're giving away might not do locals or I might want to wait and just have the superfan for a while.

The one I got is the HR10-250 like Duane posted, and it is unable to do locals in HD, and I called back and tried to set it up so I could get it replaced with the new model when it comes out and she acted like they couldn't do that until they were in stock but she said she would note it in my account that I wanted to.

Theres no point in waiting until September because by then the threat of leaving sunday ticket might not have value so I might as well get it free while I can, but how hard you think its gonna be to get them swapped later if I want to, maybe they'll atleast give me a discount on the newer model.
